Happy Birthday to Me!

Happy birthday… TO ME!!! Today is my birthday. I am 40 years YOUNG today. Ugh! I can’t believe how “old” I actually am. I don’t feel 40. Ok…sometimes I do. But I sure don’t act and think like a 40 year old.

I have no clue what we are doing today. Today is Memorial Day so it’s going to be next to impossible to go most places without having to deal with all the crowds. All the state parks and town parks are going to be packed with holiday visitors. So walking around or having a picnic is out of the question.

I was thinking about going to see the new Indiana Jones movie but I’m sure there will be a zillion people at the mall and the movies today too.

My only other thought was to go to our community pool for a few hours. I am NOT a pool person. I’m not too keen on being in a bathing suit and I hate sitting out in the sun and baking. I don’t know how people can do that. Maybe if they had to have SIX “suspicious” moles removed off their person they might think twice about baking in the sun.

The only thing I know for sure is that we are going to a diner tonight for my birthday dinner. Yeah, I know what you are thinking. Out of all the possible restaurants why a diner? Well there is a diner in New Jersey called the State Line Diner. They have a huge dinner menu and one of the dinners is called the State Line Chicken something-or-other (I know it when I see it). It’s great and they give you a TON of food to go with it. Basically it’s like two meals in one because I can never possibly finish it in one sitting so I always have some to take home for left overs. I just really love that dinner. So it’s worth traveling a bit into NJ to get it.

After dinner I’m stopping by a lady’s house to pick up some tomato and hot pepper seedlings. I want to grow some (among other things) so I can make my own salsa. I found a great recipe on the ‘net on how to make, even can, your own salsa. So that is what I intend to do with the tomatoes and peppers.

I found a great idea on the web where you take plastic Solo cups, pop a few holes in them, and put your seedlings in them to raise. You can also use plastic bags, plastic lids (like from a Slurpee or other frozen drink) or even another clear plastic cup and make a “Green House” inside the cups. I posted a picture of what I am talking about above. Now I just need to go and pick up some cups and soil. I can’t grow much on my little balcony, and I have to be careful of the cats and our dog and make sure not to plant anything poisonous. So my options and space are limited.

I’m also going to look into a flowering plant called Nasturtiums. I believe they are safe and most of the parts of the plant/flower are edible. That would be interesting to try too.

Well I’m off to celebrate my birthday. I hope everyone else has a wonderful day!
