Eco-Friendly Art Supplies

As it is every morning I check out some favorite blogs to see what everyone is up to. I also enter contests on various blogs to win awesome prizes. One of the blogs I went to this morning is having a contest where you can win a prize package from a site called Stubby Pencil Studio. With all contests I love to check out the site that is sponsoring the prize to see what other great goodies they have to offer. The Stubby Pencil Studio is no exception! This site has been bookmarked on my computer because I know I’ll be coming back to do some shopping in the near future.

The Stubby Pencil Studio offers a variety of awesome Eco-Friendly products including note cards that kids can color and personalize themselves, soy based crayons which are better then ordinary wax crayons, and the coolest pencils called “Smencils” which are on my wish list for my kids. Smencils are pencils made from 100% recycled newspapers and each has it’s own “gourmet” scent. Their scent comes environmentally-friendly fragrance liquids. They not only smell great but they are also great for our planet. They even sharpen just like a regular wood pencil! They come in awesome scents like Root Beer, Grape, Cinnamon and even Chocolate! YUMM! My kids are going to love these. I’m going to get them for “back to school” supplies. After all, they always need plenty of pencils.

Stop by the Stubby Pencil Studio and also check out their adorable Wink ‘n Curtsy™ note cards. They can be personalized in your child’s name. They would make a great gift!

Also stop by the gift section where you will find an apron and pencil case made from recycled juice boxes. They are the neatest thing! I love how they were able to turn empty juice boxes into fun accessories.

I think it’s fantastic that companies such as the Stubby Pencil Studio care so much about our environment to create such fun, Earth friendly products. I wish more companies where as Eco-Friendly as the Stubby Pencil Studio is.

Etsy

Earlier this morning I had time to kill because we were up early and we were meeting my father, his wife and grandfather for breakfast at a local diner. So to pass the time away I went to Etsy.Com to check out some of the wonderful handmade goodies you can find there.

For those of you who might not be familiar with Etsy, Etsy is an online website that acts as a “catalog” of sorts for people who sell handmade crafts. You can fine everything from beautiful art to gorgeous jewelry and from the cutest baby and kid items to out of this world bath and body products. Best of all the products are handmade with love.

The adorable little crochet graduation kids are sold on Etsy. The pattern is only $2.50! I sure wish I could crochet. These would make the cutest gift for that special graduate.

If you visit Etsy do a search for “cupcake soap” and look at the AMAZING realistic looking cupcake soaps some wonderful artists are offering. Some of them look good enough to eat!

I feel it’s very important to support local artists and craftsman. Etsy is a great way to buy quality handmade products that help support these wonderful people.
Do a search on Esty for “play food” and look at the ADORABLE handmade play foods for your children to play with. One artist has a complete breakfast including a banana, bacon, eggs and pancakes – all made from FELT! It’s too cute for words.

The next time you are looking for something truly unique or would like to give someone a gift that was handmade with love make sure to stop by Etsy and see all the goodies they have to offer.

Soap Nuts

Soap Nuts? What in the world is Soap Nuts?

About a week ago I won a contest and the prize was a trial size bag of Soap Nuts. Since I’m always looking for new and exciting products I was thrilled to have won this bag of Soap Nuts.

The Soap Nuts arrived today in a cute little draw string pouch. Inside the pouch in a zip lock bag are the weirdest looking things you have ever seen! They look sort of like a seed that was partially digested in someones stomach. Or dare I say “droppings” from some kind of critter. They smell interesting too (no worries, they don’t smell like droppings… ha ha).

Soap Nuts are really a FRUIT that you can toss into your wash that will get your laundry clean. It’s true! Soapnuts are the fruit of a tree called Sapindus Mukorossi which is found primarily in India, Indonesia, and Nepal. They are harvested, de-seeded, and then dried in the sun. After that they are ready for your wash.

Soap nuts are 100% natural. They are organically grown and are chemical-free. They gentle on clothes and skin. They are especially great for those with sensitive skin including babies and those that suffer from Eczema, allergies and psoriasis. They’re totally biodegradable, so they’re better for the environment than regular detergent, and they’re antimicrobial which means they are even good for septic and grey water systems.

To learn more about Soap Nuts and their other uses including an all-purpose cleaner and produce wash visit The Laundry Tree by clicking here.
