A GREAT Website for Cat & Kitten Lovers

If you love cats and kittens as much as I do (we have four of them…that should tell you something) then you will LOVE this great site I stumbled across called the Cat Channel. WOW! Everything and anything you want to know about Cats can be found here on this site. And I do mean EVERYTHING! From cat health to cat nutrition and from cat shows to cat breeders. They even have a special section on kittens which I think should be a mandatory section for people to read BEFORE adopting or purchasing a kitten.

We adopted all our cats as kittens and even though they are all adult cats now, reading through the kitten section I realized that we are far from cat “experts” and there are things I learned that I wish I knew when my cats were kittens. I LOVE their article on kittens from “A – Z”. You can read the article by clicking here.

Another VERY interesting article I found on the Cat Channel is about the litter box. It talks a lot about litter box training. What I love about kittens is that they pretty much know to use the litter box right away unlike puppies which need to be potty trained. One thing I did learn that I honestly didn’t give much thought to is not to put the litter box near the cat food. Uh-oh… we put the cat food dish on top of the litter box because it keeps our dog from eating their food. I’m guessing maybe the dust from the litter is not good? I’m not sure. But in any event I think we have to come up with a new place to keep the cat’s food so that our dog doesn’t get it.

To read more about this interesting litter box article click here.

There is a lot of great information about other Cat related things on the Cat Channel. I found the article about an Emerging Feline Disease VERY interesting (and somewhat disturbing).

If you are looking for a specific breed of cat the Cat Channel offers a list of breeders separated by the various breeds. Wow! Who knew there were so many breeds of cats. We have four “mutts” since our cats are all strays and one was a wild cat.

You can even subscribe to Cat Fancy magazine on the Cat Channel website too.

If you are thinking about getting a kitten in the new year please visit the Cat Channel and read up on kitten care before you bring that sweet little kitten into your home. Or if you are a more “seasoned” cat owner I’m sure you can still find a lot of very useful information on the Cat Channel website.

By they way they also have a Dog Channel too! I’m on my way over to check out that site now.

Out With the Old, In With the New…

I would like to be able to tell you that in the past year I…

Squeezed myself into size 10 jeans.
Ran a marathon.
Organized my home.
Solved the Global Warming problem.
Reconnected with old friends.
Wrote a book that was published.
Took an exotic vacation.

Instead, I have to tell you that in the past year I…

Can’t even locate any of my smaller size jeans (they are buried in the deep, dark abyss I call my closet).
I manage to get up and down the zillion stairs where I live several times a day without passing out.
Organized my hard drive.
Made new friends.
Write on my blog, so something I write is “published” (ha ha)
Took a couple of “day trips” over the summer.

However, in the past year I also…

Started my blog, She Scribes.
Met some amazing women bloggers.
Started doing product reviews and book reviews which I have so much fun doing.
Made some new friends and learned how very wonderful people can be.
Became much more “environmentally conscious“.
Got a new (used) car.
I have learned that ultimately that our Heavenly Father is in control, and when I let him be, life is better.

In the next year, I am hoping to…

Rediscover the kitchen and the joys of making more healthy home cooked meals.
Eat healthier and attempt to exercise more (mostly walking).
Build a better blog where people enjoy coming to visit daily.
Volunteer more of my time to worthy causes.
Continue develop my relationship with God.

Read more books and those five million magazines that are piling up.
Spend more time playing with my children.
Find ways of “fixing” all that ails me so that I can function better.
Get more organized.
Continue to be more socially and environmentally conscious.
Find those lost jeans in my closet and actually wear them.
Accept myself, forgive myself, and get back up whenever I fall down.

Some People Need to Grow Up!

Sorry…I just need to vent for a moment. I’m just so upset that in this day and age there are still people out there who just don’t “have a clue” and can accept the fact that people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, backgrounds, religions…what have you.

I was at the mall earlier today with my children (they are on a break for the holidays). They had cash from their great-grandfather and a gift card from their Uncle. Needless to say my kids wanted to go to the mall (mostly my daughter, my son really didn’t care one way or another).

Since it’s their holiday vacation and we were at the mall I treated the kids to lunch at the food court (Nathans Hot Dogs – love their fries!). Three hot dogs, three small fries and three small drinks for $18+. UGH!

After we finished eating I got up with my son to go and toss out the garbage. I noticed a young couple that was sitting behind us (late teens/early 20′s). I didn’t make eye contact with them or anything. I just happened to notice them, but then again, I noticed a lot of people in the food court (especially this super adorable baby boy that was seated close by – he was so cute!).

When I dumped out our garbage I went to return to where we were sitting so I could get my coat and my kid’s bags. As I walked by the young man I heard him go “Moo”, and a moment later the girl went “Moo” too. They were MOO’ING at me! Can you believe that?! Thankfully my kids didn’t hear them do that. It really hurts THEIR feelings when people are “mean” to their mom.

In this day and age you’d think people would be more accepting. We’re not in elementary school anymore. This is the real world. SO WHAT if I’m not a size “0″. Is that any reason to associate me with a barnyard animal? I don’t think so! I bet I am more of a person then both of those ignorant people put together. It just makes me so livid!

SO WHAT if people are a bit overweight. Is that any reason to treat them as less of a person? I wonder if this same couple made fun of the developmentally disabled people that were also seated near by in the food court. Chances are they probably made fun of them too. But do you know what I did? When I walked passed the developmentally disabled people I SMILED at them and said “hello” to a few of them too. Because that is the kind of person I am. I’m a good hearted person who is accepting of people no matter what makes them different them me.

OK… I’m stepping down off of my “soap box” now. Thanks for letting me vent.
