I really love our friends over at the Game Factory and the Family Review Network. They did it again! They have been very generous offering She Scribes readers fantastic games. One lucky winner will win TWO Zenses games, the Ocean edition and the Rainforest Edition, both for the Nintendo DS game system.

The more games I see come out for the Nintendo DS the more I wish I had one for myself. My kids have Nintendos, compliments of Grandpa (Grandpa always gives the best gifts, as per my kids). I love some of the games you can get for the Nintendo DS system. My kids have a few and they are a lot of fun, even for adults.

I have never heard of the Zenses games until the Game Factory so generously offered to give one lucky winner two Zenses games. After reading up about the games I would love to get them too.

Zenses – Ocean Edition. In Zenses Ocean, players relax themselves playing puzzle games inspired by the movements of the tide, rippling water, riffs and corals, beach vegetation and sea life. An indulgent, soothing experience, Zenses Ocean includes high quality visuals and ambient sounds inspired by the natural sounds of the sea. Subliminal addictive puzzles such as Hot Spot, Shell Twirl, Turtle Turn, Pearl Diver and Wave Breaker (names are currently being reviewed and may change) were created to give players an escape from the stress of every day life.

Christmas Day

Merry Christmas everyone! Although my post is a bit too late. We have about an hour and a half left before Christmas 2008 is just a memory. I hope that everyone had a wonderful day.

The picture above was taken this morning. It’s our dog enjoying playing in the wrapping paper like it was a huge pile of leaves.

It took us FOREVER last night to bring the gifts for the kids up from the basement. They just would not stay in bed. They kept coming out of their room. We FINALLY were able to bring the gifts up and get them under the tree around 2:00 AM this morning. After we were done my husband pretty much fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow. I stayed up a little longer. I must have fell asleep about 2:30 AM or so.

About 4:45 this morning I woke up to the light being turned on in the little area between the kid’s room and the bathroom. I also saw the kitchen light turn on and I could hear the kids in the kitchen. For those of you who don’t know us personally we live in a tiny one bedroom condo. The kids share the bedroom and my husband and I have to sleep in the living room, which is open to the dining room, kitchen and hallway. We sleep on a day bed with a pull out trundle. My husband sleeps on the trundle and the Christmas tree is about 2 feet from his feet at night. So we can hear everything that is going on.

I could hear my son getting something to drink and my daughter say to him “I can see three presents with your name on it”. I guess my daughter thought she was being sneaky looking at the presents, but as soon as I rolled over my kids took off and ran back to their room.

About an hour later the light went on again and I could hear them back in the kitchen. I was so tired I really don’t know what they were doing. But a short time later I opened my eyes and saw my daughter walking up to the Christmas tree. I said to her “Not yet…try and sleep a little longer”. She didn’t say a word to me. Both the kids just went back in the bedroom.

About 7 o’clock I heard them again, this time my husband woke up. We figured it was time to get up since the kids were up for a good three hours already.

In what seems like a mere moment in time it was all over. The moment that many people look forward to all year long was over in a heartbeat.

The kids seemed to like what they received this year. My son said this was the “best Christmas ever” (thankfully). Our daughter said she liked what she received too, but she’s disappointed she didn’t get Ugg boots. For those of you who are not familiar with Ugg boots they are $$$$$$$ boots that are the “in” thing right now. There is no way we can afford $120+ for a pair of boots for our child. I own one pair of shoes (sneakers) from Payless Shoes that I paid $9.99 for. I don’t even own boots. Try as we might we can’t make her realize that it wasn’t feasible for us to get her something that extravagant, and that “Santa” was not going to give her such expensive boots when there are so many little boys and girls in the world who need presents too. Of course she’s a ‘tween now and doesn’t want to come right out and admit she doesn’t believe in Santa. Every time she makes a comment that there is no such thing as Santa we just tell her “If you chose not to believe you chose not to receive”, and that usually quiets her. Next year however I plan on doing something different. Next year I’m going to make her more aware of those less fortunate then her. By the time Christmas comes around next year hopefully she’ll see things in a whole new light.

Our son still believes. He’s 9. He knows we bring presents too, but he honestly believes there is something (or someone) more magical about Christmas. Of course they both know the real reason is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

I got a new cell phone from my husband. I honestly didn’t think I needed a new one but he said I did. My other phone is 8 years old. The battery had to be charged daily. But I look at it this way, if it’s not broken, why fix it? It still works, it just needs to be charged daily. But he insisted on getting me another phone. It’s nice. No “bells and whistles”. Just a plain phone. It’s just so much different then my other one. Things have changed A LOT with cell phones over the past 8 years.

Our little neighbor wanted to show us the high chair she got for her “babies”. I miss having little ones at Christmas time. They are so cute! She was so excited that she was glowing. She LOVED her new babies and high chair from Santa. Her mom also borrowed some eggs from us to make some cornbread. She’s always borrowing eggs, milk, sugar and other things. I joked with her that she can just pay us back by giving us the cornbread she’s making. Ha Ha. Oh I we love home made things, especially baked goods since I can’t bake to save my life. I can cook, I just can’t bake. I think I’m missing a “baking gene” or something. My sister has it. She’s a great baker.

All in all I say it was a great day. Well, I did neglect a main ingredient for dinner tonight so I couldn’t make what I wanted to make (chicken parm and pasta) so we ended up eating chicken cutlets with mashed potatoes and corn. Not exactly a special Christmas meal, but it was my fault for forgetting the ingredients for chicken parm.

It’s 10:45 PM. The kids just went to bed and my husband has been fast asleep for the past hour now (he fell asleep in the chair watching “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”). We watched “A Christmas Story” too. It’s always sad to see the last few minutes of that movie around 8 PM. It’s almost like the “official” end of Christmas.

Tomorrow we have to get up early to go food shopping. We have nothing in the house for the most part. Since we go food shopping every two weeks by the time the end of the second week comes around the pantry is bare. So we need to get some shopping done, come back, have lunch, take quick showers then head upstate to meet my father and step-mother and hopefully my grandfather for dinner. I have no clue when we’ll get to see the rest of the family. Hopefully soon.

It’s going to be very sad to turn off the Christmas tree lights tonight. But before you know it we’ll be filling out Valentines day cards… waiting on the Easter bunny…enjoying summer vacation…going back to school…picking out Halloween costumes….enjoying Thanksgiving dinner…then it will be Christmas all over again.

I’m sorry that my posts are a bit off this week. Please understand that it’s because I’m spending time with my family for the holiday. Things will be back to normal the beginning of next week.

Please don’t forget to take the poll I have set up (top right side bar). You can vote for more then one option too. You can also read the post “New Year, New Me, New Blog” to learn more.

I have so many great plans for my blog in the new year. I hope you will be just as excited as I am.

Merry Christmas one and all.

Certain Dri Conquered the Shoveling Sweats.

If I had more then two hands, or extra thumbs, I would give Certain Dri deodorant multiple “thumbs up”.

We got hit with a ton of snow this past weekend. And tons of snow equals tons of snow that needs to be shoveled and as anyone who has shoveled snow before knows it’s a serious work out. You hurt muscles in places you didn’t even know you had muscles.

All that shoveling really makes you sweat – a lot. I know, that it gross, but it’s a fact of life. You sweat buckets when you are shoveling all that snow. That is why I want to give kudos to Certain Dri Anti-Perspirant. I seriously did not sweat an ounce while I was shoveling. Certain Dri keeps you completely dry. I was amazed! Even my husband, who shoveled a lot more then I did, didn’t sweat under his arms, although the rest of his body did. I think Certain Dri needs to make an all over anti-perspirant. That would REALLY keep you dry.

Certain Dri is actually applied at night time (a little goes a long way). Some people might feel they need to add more in the morning, but you don’t. They do sell an AM “Refresher” if you want to have that deodorant “fresh scent” and if you have issues with under arm smell, but honestly, I don’t use that and I’m fine.

Another thing I love about Certain Dri is that even though it’s a stick it doesn’t leave that horrible white residue that gets all over your clothes. Since you need only a little bit it’s barely even noticeable.

Certain Dri is actually the leading non-prescription aniti-perspirant that is recommended by Dermatologists. It’s also clinically tested. It’s made for those who have excessive underarm perspiration, however it’s great for people who have occasional excessive perspiration from heat, sports, or shoveling snow. I don’t have a sweating problem, but I use it anyway because you just never know. I’m glad I did when I was shoveling.

Even though it’s prescription strength it is sold over the counter. It retails for about $5.50. True, there are other deodorants on the market for less, but you also get what you pay for. With Certain Dri you only need very little so it lasts longer then other deodorants. It also REALLY works, unlike others which claim to stop wetness. I also really like that it doesn’t really have a scent. If I want to smell “pretty” I have plenty of scented lotions and perfumes for that. I don’t need to smell like “Ode de Deodorant“. Ha Ha.

Whether you are an occasional sweater like me, or someone who engages in a lot of sports or physical activity where you sweat from time to time, and most especially those of you who suffer from excessive sweating, I highly recommend Certain Dri. It’s well worth every penny. You won’t be disappointed.

Hank’s Gourmet Infusions

There is nothing that says “summer” more then ice cream (yeah, I know… it’s winter, why am I thinking about summer?). One of my favorite ice creams are the orange creamsicles. Sweet orange and cream goodness on a stick. YUM! Can you imagine if orange creamsicles came in a can and you could drink it whenever you had a craving for it? Even better, what if the orange creamsicle was GOOD for you? Well I found it! Hanks Gourmet Infusions in Orange Cream. It’s a creamsicle in a can.

Hanks Gourmet Infusions are not your typical soda-like beverages. It’s actually healthy for you. Hanks Gourmet Infusions contain EGCG (a powerful antioxidant from Green Tea), Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12, Skim Milk & Cream (for calcium). Not only are they jam packed with yummy goodness but they also contain no preservatives, no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, no synthetic vitamins (all the vitamins contained are 100% natural), no caffeine and they are very low in Sodium.

So how do they taste? Well I can tell you that the orange cream DOES taste just like a creamsicle in a can. Even my very picky husband liked it. He agrees on the taste. It’s like someone melted down a creamsicle and poured it into the can.

Hanks Gourmet Infusions also comes in Green Apple and Berry flavors. They are also coming out with a Root Beer Float flavor. I am very excited about that one! I LOVE Root Beer Floats! I bet it tastes amazing.

I’m not a huge fan of Green Apple. Hard candies in the Green Apple flavor are not bad, but for the most part I’m not keen on the Green Apple flavor. I have to say that Hank’s Green Apple DOES taste exactly like Green Apple, only creamy like a creamsicle. I don’t know how Hank’s does it. I guess it’s because the drinks contain skim milk and cream. It’s like soda mixed with cream and a yummy flavor added. My kids enjoyed the Green Apple. To them it was more like soda then a healthy drink.

The Berry is pretty good too. With my first sip my first thought was that it tasted like a Berry flavored wine cooler. It has a bit of a “kick” to it. But with the second drink I could taste it was more creamy, similar to the other drinks. Berry was pretty good too but I’d have to say my favorite is the Orange Cream.

Hank’s Gourmet Infusions are exactly that, gourmet soda-like healthy drinks. Since they are gourmet you could easily serve these to guests at a party and feel good knowing that you are serving them healthy, tasty drinks instead of sodas or alcoholic beverages. You could even replace the regular sugary-sweet sodas your children drink with Hank’s Gourmet Infusions and feel better knowing that your children are enjoying a 100% natural, good for you healthy alternative.

Currently Hank’s Gourmet Infusions, and their other classic sodas including Wishniak Black Cherry and Vanilla Cream are sold only online at Hank’s Gourmet Beverages. You can learn more about Hank’s, or order online, by clicking here.

I know I’ll be ordering more of the Orange Cream from Hank’s and I am looking forward to Hank’s Root Beef Infusion drink when it’s available.

New Year, New Me, New Blog?

With the new year fast approaching (at record speed!) I have been reflecting on things I am going to do in the new year to help make me a better person, mother, wife, friend, citizen of Earth, business woman and blogger. I REFUSE to make any resolutions this coming New Year’s Eve. Resolutions rarely work. Each year it seems like I resolve to do the same thing anyway (loose weight, get more organized…) and by January 2nd I have pretty much fell off the “Resolution Bandwagon”. Instead this coming year I am going to commit to making daily positive changes. “Baby steps” to becoming a better person all around. I figured if I can make small changes on a daily basis then by the end of the year I would have make A LOT of positive changes. Another words making positive changes, but in smaller “pieces” at a time.

Some of the ideas I had for my blog are posting weekly (if not daily) on something positive I plan on doing that day (or week) that you can do too if you want. Everything from being healthier, being more “Earth-Friendly”, being a better friend, and so forth.

I am also toying with the idea of doing specific types of posts on certain days of the week so that Monday would be dedicated to “this subject matter” and Tuesday will be dedicated to “that subject matter” and so on. I’m not sure if people are into that or not. Do people prefer specific types of posts on specific days of the week, or would they rather have a little bit of this and that done randomly. What are your thoughts?

What would you like to see more of on She Scribes? What would you like to see less of? Is there something you truly enjoy about She Scribes, or is there something you really don’t like?

I’m pleading to all my She Scribe readers to provide me with some feedback on how I can make She Scribes a better blog. I would love it if you could comment on this post with your thoughts.

I also set up a poll (top right side bar). You are able to select more then one option. Could you please look it over and make your choices. It would help me to map out how I’m going to this blog in the new year. You CAN vote more then once, so please vote for all your favorites.

Thanks to all my faithful readers of She Scribes, and welcome to all my new friends. I hope you will stay with me all through 2009. I have so many wonderful things to tell you about (products, books…) and some amazing giveaways. If you haven’t done so already you can subscribe to my blog (right side bar). I love subscribers, the more the merrier I am. Ha Ha.

I’m looking forward to your comments on what I can do to make She Scribes a great blog that everyone would enjoy.

Mobigrip & Giveaway

I have to tell you about this wonderful new product I just found. It’s called Mobigrip. Please view the above video to see them in action.

The Mobigrip is simple, inexpensive and can save you hundreds of dollars!

A Mobigrip is a small disc with a self-adhesive sticker on the back. You simply peel off the sticker and attach the Mobigrip to the back of your iPod, cell phone, PDA or any other hand held device you own. There is a small elastic hoop on the Mobigrip that fits around any of your fingers. Once the Mobigrip is in place all you need to do is insert a finger through the elastic hoop and your iPod, cell phone or other hand held electronic is secured to your hand and prevents you from accidentally dropping it.

Have you ever dropped your cell phone and have it shatter on you? I have! I can’t tell you how many times I accidentally dropped my cell phone, and without fail it always has to be on a hard surface (sidewalk, parking lot…).

My daughter has an iPod, compliments of Grandpa. I always worry about her dropping it because they are very pricey and there is no way we can afford to replace it. When I learned about the Mobigrip I knew I had to have one for my daughter.

The Mobigrip “installed” quickly to her iPod. At first she was a bit put off by it because it was “different”, but after I while I noticed her actually using it. Even better when a few of her friends saw it they asked where she bought it from (the Mobigrip) because they thought it was “cool” and they wanted on too. Anything considered “cool” by a group of ‘tweens has to be good! Ha Ha.

The Mobigrip comes in a variety of colors and are sold online on the Mobigrip site. You can view them all by clicking here.

Do you want to win your own Mobigrip? The company has generously offered me to giveaway four Mobigrips to She Scribe readers.

To enter please visit Mobigrip (click here), look around, then come back here and let me know your favorite color and what you would use the Mobigrip on. Please note that I have no control over the color that the company sends, but I’ll do my best to get you the color that you want.

Please excuse my daughter’s hand. She seriously needs a manicure. Her iPod is in her hand. This is how it looks when she’s using the Mobigrip. You can see the blue piece of elastic.
