Good Karma?

Wow… have I had a productive day. I’m hoping that my kind gestures will come back to me some day.

This afternoon I went after a run away dog. I live in a huge condo complex where people drive like homicidal maniacs (Hello? Speed Limits!). It’s not safe for people to walk around our parking lot, let alone a bouncy dog who is enjoying her moment of freedom.

One of the dogs in our complex some how escaped from her home. I recognized the dog because yesterday I was talking to her owner and ANOTHER one of his dogs wiggled out of it’s collar and ran off so I ended up holding on to one of the three dogs while he went chasing after the runaway. I also learned that the dog I brought back home escaped once before and disappeared for an entire year until she some how got brought back to a shelter in NYC and a chip in her ear reunited her with her family.

Anyway… My husband was out on our balcony and noticed a small black dog running around with no owner in site. I asked him what the dog looked like and he said it was a small black dog. I had a feeling it was one of the “Houdini” dogs from across the street. Being the animal lover that I am I armed myself with my dogs collar, leash and a dog treat.

To make a long story short I was able to lure the dog back into her building and right to her family’s front door. Mind you I don’t know these people at all. I just happened to talk to the son for the first time yesterday.

Do you want to hear the kicker… she didn’t even realize the dog was gone! Not only that she said a quick “Thank you” and shut the door. ???!!! Really, I wasn’t expecting her to slobber all over me thanking me like crazy. But how about a smile and some form of appreciation in your voice instead of “I didn’t know she was gone…get in here (to the dog)… Thank you” (shuts the door). Jeepers!

Next on my agenda today was to do a “Grooms Survival Kit” personalized can for a customer of mine. She has ordered favors from me for her engagement party dinner and personalized cocoa for her December wedding. I figured the least I could do is make her this can. She’s actually waiting for me to send her the invoice so she can pay me but I was going to send it to her as a surprise and not charge her for it. Humm…I hope she’s not reading my blog! LOL!

Just a few moments ago I finished making 170 personalized buttons for the Relay for Life team for our dear Kasey’s family. OUCH! My hand is killing me. The buttons are done totally by hand. She asked me to make the buttons for the team again this year and she too is waiting for me to send her the invoice to pay me. I already told her they were paid for (meaning I wasn’t going to charge her). Then my husband told me to tell her that he was going to “pay” for them but she wouldn’t hear of it. She’s expecting the invoice for the buttons to be sent to her and she’s not expecting the buttons until mid-May. After working on them for hours they are all done, packaged up and ready to go out in tomorrow’s mail, and she doesn’t know anything about it. I want to surprise her.

So there are three acts of kindness I did today. I actively do random acts of kindness not because I am hoping good Karma comes back my way (although that is always nice). I do it because that is they type of person I am. I go out of my way to do kind things for others. Just recently I paid for the coffee of the man behind me online at Dunkin Donuts (he was shocked!). I’m always giving water to the people who come and do the landscaping in our complex and water to our delivery men. They might be little things here and there but I always make a conscious effort to do something nice each day for someone else. I think I easily filled my quota for the day today. LOL!

What have YOU done lately that was a “random act of kindness”? I would love to hear about them! Hearing great stories of kindness gives me the “warm fuzzies” and makes me smile.

Noodle & Boo Mother’s Day Contest

A few days ago I posted a review for some delightful Noodle & Boo products (click here to read the original review). I just found out that they are having a special Mother’s Day contest where the winner will get $250 to spend on the Noodle & Boo web site. Oh my! I could easily spend that much on their site.

This is a cute “Mommy & Me” photo contest looking for photos of Moms with their baby or toddler. Moms are encouraged to post their favorite picture of them with their little one. The photos will be posted to the Noodle & Boo Facebook page on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 10, 2009. The photo of mommy and baby with the most “like it’s” will win a $250 Noodle & Boo gift certificate!

The contest will end Wednesday, May 20th at noon and will be announced on their Facebook page. There is still time but don’t wait too long. I’m sure you’ll want the photo to be seen by as many people as you can so you can get plenty of votes. Make sure to get all your family and friends to vote for you!

Mix My Granola

I am a VERY happy girl right now. I am noshing on the most delicious granola! The best thing about it is that I created it myself. Yummy!

Have you ever purchased granola (or trail mix) but ended up having to pick things out of it because you are not a “fan” of some of the ingredients? Or have you ever purchased a granola and wished it contained a few extra ingredients? Some people like chocolate “elements” in their granola where others are more into the nuts and the seeds.

There is an AWESOME, and yes, I do mean AWESOME new company called Mix My Granola. It’s a granola lovers dream!

Mix My Granola allows customers to customize and create their own granola mixes. You start with a healthy “base” of your choice. They have low-fat, French Vanilla, Organic and Organic Muesli. I chose low-fat.

Next you get to add fruits. They have apples, bananas. blueberries, plums and many other fruits including the Goji berries. I could have easily added any of them. I added apples, plums, and dried melon slices.

The next set of ingredients you get to pick are the nuts and seeds. You can choose from peanuts, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts and so many other fabulous nuts and seeds. I’m a huge nut lover! I chose Macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds, Pepitas (pumpkin seeds) and pecans. YUMMY!

The next step is the really fun part, you get to pick all the sweet “extras” like M&M’s, Gummi Bears, Jelly Beans, Candy Corn, mini chocolate morsels and more. I can see this is the section that people go “overboard” on. I chose the mini chocolate morsels sesame sticks and the mini yogurt pretzels. I could have EASILY added a few more ingredients but I didn’t want to go overboard.

What I love about Mix My Granola (aside from the HUGE variety of ingredients you can chose from) is that each ingredient has a “price” so you are able to keep track of how much the granola is going to cost. Some ingredients cost more then others.

You can even save your creation to reorder over and over again. You get to name your creation and everything.

Mix My Granola came to about $18 with shipping. Now I know you are thinking “That is crazy”. No, not really. If you buy granola and trail mix type foods you know that they can be costly, especially high quality ingredients. The My Granola Mix you create is created fresh just for you so you know your mix has not been sitting on a store shelf for who knows how long. Plus you get to add the ingredients YOU want. You can easily create a mix for well under $10.

Another great feature about the site is that you can pull up nutritional information right on the spot. That is a great way to keep track of fat, cholesterol and other health concerns.

I was surprised that my granola arrived TWO DAYS after I ordered it. WOW! I was expecting at least a week. Even more shocking was the size of the container. OH MY GOODNESS! It comes in a huge tube! The tube must be about 12″ tall (I don’t have a ruler handy…it looks bigger then a Barbie doll). And it weighs a lot. There is easily a POUND of granola! WOW!

What I LOVE about this is that the nutritional information is included on the tube. It tells you everything you need to know (fat, calories, serving size…). It lists the ingredients (which is everything I ordered), the date it was mixed on (it was mixed YESTERDAY!), and ever their 100% money back guarantee!

Above is a picture of the tube and a soup bowl with some of the mix in it. Below is a close up of the mix.

Needless to say My Granola Mix has a HUGE new fan in me. I suppose I must share with my family (LOL). I’m going to put some of the mix in these small containers that I picked up so my kids can have some for lunch. This would make a great after school snack too because I KNOW what in the mix and there is nothing here I would have any concerns about. It’s all healthy goodness.

My Granola Mix would be FUN for summer picnics, parties and even camping. Since you can name your mix you can come up with a fun family camping mix like “The Smith Family’s Camp Mix” or something like that. Then each year you can order that special mix for your camping trips.

OK, seriously, I don’t think there will be any left for my family. Either I better hide the tube or I’m going to eat the whole thing! LOL!

I even got a coupon for $3 off my next purchase included with my order. Awesome!

To visit My Granola Mix (warning…do not visit the site if you are hungry! LOL) go to http://www.mixmygranola.com/.
