To go or not to go…that is the question.

How is that for a little Shakespeare in the morning.

My ‘tween daughter is going to NYC today for a field trip to Broadway with the 6th and 7th grade chorus. They are going to see “West Side Story”. Of course she would never watch the movie on TV. She said it was boring. Yet we paid $45 to send her to Broadway to see the play. Ha! Let’s just hope she enjoys it while she’s there.

My ‘tween daughter will be 12 in a couple of weeks and she’s going to Broadway. I’ll be 41 in a couple of weeks and I have never been to Broadway. What is wrong with this picture?

Anyway… in lieu of recent events (the “Swine Flu”) we are now debating on whether or not letting her go is a good idea. She’ll be on a bus to/from the city and inside a theater (all closed in places). It just takes one cough to spread germs to everyone. It’s really got us worried.

We have grilled both our kids about keeping safe, washing their hands, covering their mouths…you name it we have gone over it with them. But as a child it’s easy to forget things when you are caught up in the excitement of the moment (that is being in the city to see a Broadway show).

I am sending her with hand sanitizer (the Germinator that I reviewed yesterday). But still you can’t help but worry.

We have two suspected cases of the Swine Flu here in our town. The two individuals both came back from Mexico (not together – they are unrelated to each other) and both are sick. The county is waiting on confirmation of what they have before they can rise the confirmed number of cases here in NY. Ugh!!!

I really want to keep her home but at the same time I know she’s excited to go. I guess we just have to play it safe and hope for the best. I do know the moment she comes down with ANYTHING other then her normal seasonal allergies that I’ll have her at the doctor’s office so quick she won’t know what happened. I am not playing around when it comes like stuff like that. I tend to get sick very easily too so whenever family members come down with something I’m usually suffering right along with them, and you know that there is no on to take care of Mommy when she’s sick.

I’m hoping for the best and that is she has a blast and that she doesn’t come into contact with anything.

BabyGanics – Works Hard, Plays Safe

Do you want to hear some scary facts? OK, probably not, but I’m going to tell you them anyway.

- Did you know that there are over 70,000+ synthetic chemicals used in commercial production?

- On average a new type of synthetic enters the market each and every day.

- Due to some crazy trade secret labeling law manufacturers are NOT required to list all the ingredients used to make their product on the product label. That is just INSANE!

- This one is REALLY horrible – Chemical information is required by law on products used in the workplace but it’s not mandatory on products we use in our homes. And according to the National Research Council there is no toxic information available on over 80% of the chemicals used in the products we use every day.

- Here is another scary one – Traces of chemicals can be found on EVERY ORGAN in your body within a mere 26 seconds after exposure. Think about that the next time you mop the floor and your child runs by.

It’s because of facts like the ones I just mentioned that I get more and more worried about the food that we eat and the cleaners I bring into my home. I’m always looking for healthier alternatives.

BabyGanics offers a wide variety of household cleaning products that are…

- Natural & Organic.

- Non-Toxic.

- Free from harsh chemicals.

- Non-pollutant.

- Uses non-caustic ingredients.

- Free from VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds).

- Contain no dyes or fillers.

- Safe for people, pets and our environment.

I had the pleasure of trying out some of the BabyGanics products and let me tell you they are marvelous! I was pleasantly surprised at how effective the products were at doing their “job”. What made it even better was knowing that my home was clean for my family and our pets afterwards with no worries of harsh chemicals and toxins to make us sick.

Hands down my FAVORITE is the Breathin‘ Easy Air Freshener & Odor Eliminator. It’s a generous sized bottle that uses a non-aerosol pump (you pump it yourself). This stuff smells AWESOME! I am not exaggerating when I say I spray it all day long because I find the scent very soothing and refreshing. Even my daughter grabs it to spray in her bedroom too because she enjoys the scent. It’s scented with Lavender and Vanilla so you can only imagine how beautiful it smells. Instantly bad odors are replaced with a very spring time fresh scent. I am totally loving this spray!

The Germinator, a foaming hand sanitizer, has been a huge help around my house too. It’s not easy to get my kids to use sanitizers but kids sure to love things that foam. The Germinator goes on well and dries very quickly. There is really no scent to it (in my opinion) which is fine with me. It also does dry out your skin like alcohol based sanitizers do. Your hands just feel “clean” after you use it. Sometimes when I use sanitizers I end up washing my hands afterwards because I really don’t like how they feel, but I did not feel that way with The Germinator.

The Dish Dazzler is a dish washing solution that is in a pump bottle. It’s a foam which of course made my kids happy (well, almost) to do their dishes. They just pumped some of the foam on the sponge and started washing. Again, there is something about foam that kids love. I guess because foam is fun.

I liked how well the dishes washed using the Dish Dazzler. It was just as effective as any other dish soap we have used in the past however the Dish Dazzler is a much healthier alternative. The pump bottle is a nice size too which means you can wash A LOT of dishes with just one bottle.

I also had a HUGE bottle of Grime Fighter which is an all purpose spray. Mine was scent free but I know they carry a Lavender scent which is what I’ll get next time. We used the Grime Fighter to clean EVERYTHING…the stove, the counter top, the fridge, the floor…you name it. It cleaned everything well. In fact afterwards everything just seemed fresh as if we used soap and water. There was no residues or harsh smells in the air. I love it! Often when I clean I have to open a window because I can’t stand the smell. With the Grime Fighter I didn’t have to do that at all. I actually felt a sense of relief, if you can understand what I mean, knowing that after I cleaned my home was CLEAN from toxins and chemicals too. Somehow the place just seemed that much cleaner. Plus with the all purpose cleaner I can have my kids help clean without having to worry about them using “poisons” which is what I refer to traditional cleaners.

The products I have are all included in BabyGanics Healthy Home Essentials Kit. The kit is VERY well priced too. Only $19.99 for the all purpose cleaner, hand sanitizer, dish soap and the wonderful air freshener. If you think about how much you typically pay for things you use to clean your home you’ll see that the BabyGanics products are either similarly priced or even cheaper. For the peace of mind knowing that you are not using things harmful to your family I think that far outweighs the cost too. You can’t put a price tag on your health and peace of mind.

Miss Oops for Moms-to-Be

Have you heard about the company called Miss Oops? They offer the must interesting and unique products to help prevent any “Oops” situation from noticeable deodorant marks on your clothing to a spray that removes eye shadow dust from your face and your clothing and from “tape” to help prevent “wardrobe malfunctions” to something called “Goblet Goop” (for that horrible saggy section under your neck).

I find their products very amusing yet very helpful. I was reading over the product descriptions for all their products and I must say I can remember times when I sure could have used their products.

Miss Oops offers an essential “Mom-to-Be Kit”.

The “Mom-to-Be Kit” comes with “Popper Stoppers”, “Rescue Sponge” and “Pedicure in a Bottle”. The products unique names sure have you guessing what they are, right?

Popper Stoppers are too funny. They are a band aid like material that is used to cover up the wonderful little bulging belly button that some pregnant ladies experience. I never had that happen but I do know others that have seen their belly buttons resemble some kind of popper you’d see on a turkey that was fully cooked. I’m sure you know what I mean by those little “popper” devices. I’m also pretty sure that most people have seen pregnant ladies with the belly buttons that stick out.

Popper Stoppers are a great way to cover up the belly button if you are wearing something sheer or don’t want your belly button being easily seen through your clothing.

I really wish I knew someone personally who was pregnant so I could try them out on her. Sadly the only pregnant person I know doesn’t have an “outtie” belly button. I have seen a few ladies when I’m out and about who do but I think I would look like a total whack-o if I approached them and asked them to put a Popper Stopper on for me. Ha Ha. I can image how that would look on the front page of the newspaper.

The Pedicure in a Bottle I was able to try out. OH! It’s nice! It’s REALLY nice! I had to laugh because on the packaging it reads “Could builders sand furniture with your feet?” That is TOO FUNNY! And sadly it’s true for many of us with dry, rough heels. Pedicure in a Bottle is delightful product that combines glycolic and salicylic acid, Shea butter, peppermint, menthol, and lavender. It not only makes your feet feel nice and soft but it also smells GREAT!

Pedicure in a Bottle does exfoliate but it’s not rough and scratchy like other similar products. Plus you an put it on your feet and go. You don’t have to rinse it off. It absorbs into your skin pretty quickly. I have been rubbing it on my feet at least 2-3 times a day. I don’t know if I do it so often because it feels so good (especially on a hot sticky day) or because it smells AWESOME!

The Mom-to-Be Kit also contains one of the Rescue Sponges. Rescue Sponges are abrasive little red sponges that are used to carefully remove marks on your clothing from deodorant or make up. I try my hardest not to get deodorant on my clothing (plus mine is clear) but I took some of my daughter’s deodorant and rubbed it on a t-shirt. After it dried I took the Rescue Sponge to it and it did “erase” the deodorant from it. Next I took some liquid concealer that I have (mine is a touch up wand in a tube) and dabbed some on the t-shirt. After it dried I took the Rescue Sponge to it again and sure enough it erased the mark too. The make up took a wee bit longer to remove, but it did the trick none the less.

You are suppose to use the Rescue Sponge dry. I wet one end of it just for fun to see what happened and it smudged everything on the T-shirt (the deodorant and the make up). So remember to follow the directions and use it dry.

The Mom-to-Be Kit would make a great baby shower gift for the Mom-to-Be. It even comes in a super cute “purse” type tote box. You wouldn’t even need to wrap it up. It’s cute “as is” without wrapping paper.

The Mom-to-Be Kit and other Miss Oops products are available online at http://www.missoops.com/. You should check out the other great unique products they offer for those “Oops” moments in life.

On a side note, if you are pregnant with a popped out belly button and live in NY be on the look out for a crazy lady carrying Popper Stoppers. LOL! I am so curious to see how they work.

Playskool’s Clipo Hippo

I really enjoy many children’s toys available on the market today. True, some of them I could live without (what were the companies thinking!) but other toys are just so darn cute and a lot of fun.

Some of my readers might remember a toy from years ago called Bristle Blocks. They were these shaped plastic “blocks” with bumps all over them. The blocks easily inserted themselves on to other blocks allowing you to create all different kids of “buildings” and designs. They were really fun! We actually had a set up until maybe two years ago but we gave it away because my kids out grew it.

Playskool has a new type of “bristle” like blocks on the market today called Clipo Blocks. They are available from many toy retail locations. The colorful blocks are a perfect size for little hands to grasp and manipulate.

I recently gave my nephew a Clipo Hippo. He’s part of the Clip collection. And let me tell you he’s adorable! The well constructed little purple hippo with the big expressive eyes is the perfect addition to any Clipo collection, or as a “stand alone” toy too.

Clipo Hippo comes with a set of Clipo blocks in all shapes, sizes and colors including a sweet little yellow bird. If you have watched any animal documentaries you’d see that often Hippos have little “friends” that like to hang out with them (or shall I say on them).

There are so many different ways you can play with the Clipo Hippo set. The Clipo Hippo has wheels so your little one can zoom him around the floor like he would a car or other moving vehicle. My nephew had a blast whisking the Clipo Hippo around the floor. My nephew is a typical boy whose into trucks, cars and trains so it goes without saying that anything on wheels is going to amuse him. Even the Clipo Hippos wheels have the bristle toy texture on them so you can stick the blocks on the wheels too.

One of my nephew’s favorite features about the Clipo Hippo is the fact that his mouth opens up wide. And it stays open too so there is no worries about the mouth falling down and taking a “bite” out of your little one’s hand. The Clipo Blocks easily fit inside the Hippo’s mouth. My nephew found it amusing to put other blocks in his mouth as well as some other small toys that he has. It was as if the Hippo was “eating” the blocks and toys. You can even move the Hippo’s mouth up and down to mimic “chewing” (my nephew laughed when I did that).

The Clipo Hippo’s back also lifts up so you can store the blocks that way too (or other small toys). The back lid stays open too. Both the back lid and the mouth “click” when you open and close them which I think my nephew liked the sound too.

The Clip Hippo comes with a nice starter set of Clipo Blocks (more sets are available for purchase). The Clipo Hippo came with five green squares, three orange squares with cut outs in the middle, four red triangles, four pink circles and two blue rectangles. I wish the set contained more rectangles. I think you could “build” more things with it, but that is just my opinion.

The Clipo Blocks are great for teaching your child colors (my nephew is good with his colors), shapes, counting, sorting and other fun activities.

Clipo Hippo is a super fun toy for little ones that is also a great educational tool. It’s a quality made product and is sells for a good price. I have seen the price range from $12.99 to $24.99. The average retail price is about $19.99. It’s a good price for this toy too.

Clipo Hippo is available at Walmart, Amazon, Toys R Us, Target and all other toy retailers.
