Drinkwell 360

We have four cats and a dog. I am forever filling up the water dishes for them. We have two, one in the kitchen and one out on the balcony. The one one the balcony doesn’t get used often, they mostly use what is in the kitchen. I keep two dishes because they are always drinking up all the water and I’m always filling the dishes up. What we really need is something larger. I found exactly what we need, and then some, in a great product for pets called the Drinkwell 360.

The Drinkwell 360 is a HUGE water bowl for pets. The difference between this and a regular bowl is that the Drinkwell 360 is a water fountain for pets with a carbon filter to clean the water too.

I was a bit taken by the size of the Drinkwell 360. It is large but with four cats and a dog we needed something like this.

I am FAR from “technical” yet I was able to get this set up and running in a matter of minutes. The instructions were super easy to follow. I had it set up in 1-2-3 and before you knew it I had water running through the fountain.

I was a bit apprehensive about all of my cats using it. I knew at least two of them would have no problem, as well as my dog. I was our oldest cat Velcro whose afraid of his own shadow that I was worried about. To my amazement all four of the cats and our dog took to it with no problem at all.

At first it was a novelty to the cats. They enjoyed swatting at the water as it streamed out of the fountain. It was a fun “toy” for them at first but after they got used to it they used it as a regular drinking fountain. I have watched them drink and they all drink from the water that streams down from the top, not what is in the dish. My dog tends to drink from the dish part.

The Drinkwell 360 holds A LOT of water. It’s been GREAT not having to refill the dish a few times a day, every day. And the Drinkwell 360 cleans very easily too. All you do is unsnap the plug (you don’t even have to unplug it from the wall), take it apart, wash it and put it back together. It’s really easy to do.

The Drinkwell 360 does come with a carbon filter to clean the water. They recommend that you change the filter every 1-2 weeks (depending on how many animals you have) but it’s not necessary to use the filter either. You can use it just as well without. It’s just an added “luxury” to have the water cleaned.

There are different pieces you can add to the top of the Drinkwell 360 depending on how many streams of water you want. You can have 1 through 5 streams. I currently have five streams because we have five pets but I’m thinking of changing to just one to see how the cats like that instead.

Here is a video I made with my Vado of the Drinkwell 360. You can even see all four of my cats and my dog in the video too. They all followed me into the kitchen to see what I was doing. I think I’m the “Pied Piper of Pets”. LOL!

The Drinkwell 360 is available at various retail locations including Amazon and many online pet retailers (do a search for Drinkwell 360 and you’ll come up with a lot of places). The retail cost varies. The replacement filters can also be purchased for about $10 for a three pack.

Pawparazzi Pets – Super Cute Giveaway!

I have a soft spot in my heart for super cute things. Especially plush animals. Growing up I used to get stuffed animals every chance I could. They were my “friends”. Pack a "greener" lunch

I made lunches for my kids to bring to school almost every day. They do buy on occasion but I rather send them to school because I honestly don’t think mozzarella sticks and nachos soaked in faux cheese is really a “healthy” lunch. No way!

I try and make their lunches as “green” as I can with reusable containers and bottles. They both have lunch boxes too so there is no need for paper or plastic bags. But there was always the concern with the plastic sandwich bags I used to put the sandwiches in. They were not “green” and not something I could really reuse over and over again. Thankfully Ziploc took care of that problem. They now offer a “green” sandwich bag called Ziploc Evolve. You know I just had to try these right away.

Ziploc Evolve bags are made with 25% plastic. They are also manufactured using “renewable” wind energy so that means it takes less energy to make the bags then other plastic food bags. Even the package is made out of 100% recycled paper. Nice!

I was a bit concerned at first that the bags would be thin and “cheap” feeling. After all they were made with 25% less plastic. WOW! Imagine my surprise when I used the bags. They feel just like regular bags. They are not “cheap” or thin at all. They work great! They even have the Ziploc zipper seal which I really like. These bags are exactly what I have been looking for. A better way to make lunches for my kids that is better for our environment.

The boxes even have the “Box Tops for Education” on them too which is another great thing about them.

The Ziploc Evolve bags are sold where ever sandwich bags are sold. Look for it in the green box. They retail for about the same price as other sandwich bags.

Thanks SC Johnson and Ziploc for making a better bag!

This is just SO WRONG!

Warning…ranting and raving ahead.

Some of my readers might remember reading about how my husband and I have been trying to get a job transfer to North Carolina for a couple of years now. My husband has an office down there and last year his boss called him up at home one night (Jan. 3, 2008…trust me, I remember that date) and told him to start looking at real estate down there because he wanted to transfer my husband to that office. For MONTHS we looked into transferring, I even had an agent looking at houses for us, but no word on a transfer. Finally we got the word – NO! There was no reason to send him there. Talk about depressing! I was in a “funk” for months and months afterwards.

Fast forward to this month. We found out less then two weeks ago that one of the guys in that office gave his notice and this past Tuesday was his last day. That leaves one person left in an office that needs to have two people. So once again my husband’s boss said he would get him transferred down there. However once again it’s a no go!

It makes PERFECT SENSE to send him there. He knows the system, he knows the people down there, his current office is over staffed by two people as it is too. No matter how you look at it the whole thing just makes sense, except to one boss. He rather hire an outside consultant, pay him/her MORE money then what my husband gets paid, and have to train them on how to do things and on the system. ???!!!

So once again we were lead to believe we could move there and start our lives fresh and new and get something we have been dreaming of for years – a house! You see there are four of us in my family. We live in a teeny, tiny one bedroom condo (about 900 sq ft). Our “yard” consists of an old, falling apart, 6′ x 12″ balcony. Our kids share the room (not easy with a ‘tween daughter and almost ‘tween son!) and my husband and I sleep on a daybed set up in the living room. My living room is my bedroom, living room, family room and office rolled into one. We can’t have people over because we are embarrassed to have them sit on my bed because we can’t have a couch (no room). We have one bedroom closet, a small hallway closet, and a teeny tiny storage room in the basement. If I feel sick, oh well. I can’t go to my room and lie down – I don’t have a room! I haven’t slept in the same bed with my husband in years. We used to have a sofa bed but those things are not meant for every day use. We also had TWO of those inflatable beds but they both got holes in them. Now we have the day bed. I sleep in a twin bed (day bed) and my husband sleeps on the other twin bed that tucks away under my bed.

A couple of years ago our condos (which were built in 72′) were selling for $230,000 – $250,000 for the ONE bedrooms (two bedrooms were selling for a lot more). These days I have seen them from $189,000 – $230,000. Ours would probably sell in the $200,000 range, give or take. Between mortgage, taxes and “common charges” (home owners association fees) we pay about $1,500 a month (not including all our other expenses).

Down in North Carolina we are finding houses for $150,000 and less. Beautiful houses too!

Take the house (pictured above). It’s currently listed at $106,000. I has between 2,100 – 2,500 sq. feet (our home is 900!). It has one the first floor alone one full bathroom, one half bathroom, a kitchen, dining room, breakfast nook, den, foyer and a bonus room. The second floor has two full bathrooms, four bedrooms and a bonus room. There is also a two car garage with a room above it. It has a big backyard, .35 of an acre and a pool. I found out the area taxes and did some calculations and if we put $10,000 down our monthly mortgage, including taxes, would be around $650!!!!! We’d be saving almost $900 a month and have a HUGE house with a yard and plenty of room for the grandparents to come and stay on extended visits.

I actually get sick to my stomach when I think about it. Literally…sick to my stomach. And to think we came so close to finding a house like this for my family had the company gone through with the transfer. I don’t WANT to leave NY and my family but for a better life for my family, it would be worth it. And it’s not like NY is that far away, it’s not. We can come home to NY 1-2 times a year easily enough.

OH!!!!! I am BEYOND upset over all of this!!!! It’s just so wrong!!!

Sorry to ramble, rant and rave. You were forewarned. Ha Ha.

Funky Monkey Snacks

Funky Monkey Snacks need to change their name to FUNky Monkey Snacks because they are fun to eat. They are so unique and different and my kids gobbled them right up!

Funky Monkey Snacks (http://www.funkymonkeysnacks.com/) are delicious freeze dried fruits that contain no added sugars, artificial colors or preservatives. Each ounce of Funky Monkey Snacks equals 3 fruit servings too! If you are concerned about your child not getting enough fruit in their healthy diets then Funky Monkey Snacks would be perfect for your family.

I know there are plenty of freeze dried fruits on the market today, however Funky Monkey Snacks, in my opinion, are in a class by themselves. First of all they taste amazing! My son practically ate the fruit pieces right out of my hand. My daughter was a bit hesitant at first because freeze dried fruits look “odd” but once I convinced her to try a piece she was hooked.

Funky Monkey Snacks comes in a variety of unique flavors. My personal favorite is Bananamon which is freeze dried bananas and cinnamon. They taste SO GOOD! I would have never thought about bananas and cinnamon. They make a great flavor combination. YUMMY!

The colorful carnival mix contains freeze dried pineapples (and other yummy fruits). My kids thought the freeze dried pineapple pieces looked weird. They actually went out of their way to pick out the pineapple pieces trying to find the strangest looking one. My kids are so weird! LOL!.

Another favorite of mine is the Javalime which is pineapple and lime juice. Again, another perfect pairing. I think it’s the delicious combinations of fruits that makes Funky Monkey Snacks so different.

Something fun that we did with the “crumbs” (the little pieces at the bottom of the bag) was to mix them in with some mixed nuts we had. The combination of the mixed nuts and the Funky Monkey Snacks was AWESOME!!!! The sweetness of the fruit and the saltiness from the salt made our taste buds come alive.

The Funky Monkey Snacks come in convenient snack size bags, perfect for sending to camp or school with your children.

Funky Monkey Snacks are available at Amazon, Whole Foods, Super Target, Kroger and other online/offline locations.

To learn more about Funky Monkey Snacks please visit them online at http://www.funkymonkeysnacks.com/. While you are there visit the Chef’s Corner to learn about some fun recipes you can make using Funky Monkey Snacks. The Looney Lab is also a fun way to create new Funky Monkey Snack flavors.

YUMMY!
