When my children were growing up I honestly don’t think I ever watched an “adult” program, meaning something not specifically made for the 5 and under crowd (ha ha). Barney, Blues Clues, Teletubbies, Sesame Street, Arthur… I STILL adore those shows. My husband and I will sometimes sit and watch them because we miss those days. The other day we watched “Max and Ruby” (my son’s favorite growing up). Awww…those shows are too cute!
Some of the programs available for kids today are either totally ridiculous while others amaze me.
There is a children’s program called Robert & Ribert. My family had the opportunity to review their DVD, Robert & Ribert’s Wonderland. Oh my! Talk about total “eye candy” for the younger crowd. This program has it all! Amazing 3-D animation, fun songs, activities, amusing characters and it’s just down right FUN to watch. The great thing about this series is that children don’t even realize that they are learning when they are watching the show. Even I found myself getting caught up with the program, not realizing that Wow… I just learned a whole bunch of things about the Rainforest!
Robert is a human and Ribert is a cute little frog. They reside on an island called Wonderland. Wonderland is a giant amusement park filled with super fun rides and the most realistic looking roller coaster I have ever seen. My husband, who is NOT a fan of roller coasters, said that just watching the show made him queasy because he felt like he was on the real thing. Ha Ha. It is pretty amazing how realistic is looks with the coater going up and down and looping around.
Robert is to Ribert like Steve was to Blue on Blue’s Clues. I think that is why I find this program so charming because it reminds me in a way of Blue Clues which was a huge favorite of my daughter’s when she was little.
The interactive activities that they have on the show are FUN!
I liked the story telling lady. She very “animated” when she speaks (meaning she moves around a lot). She also speaks with inflection in her voice which really adds to the story. Dora Duck (another story teller) is really engaging too, right down to her silly flower hat.
One section of the DVD, Robert & Ripert’s Wonderland, an artist shows children how to draw a parrot. My kids went nuts for this! They used what they learned and drew a whole flock of parrots! LOL!
My son, who is OBSESSED with snow and anything that has to do with snow (he wants to move to the mountains of Colorado, Buffalo or northern Michigan just for the snow! LOL!). There was a section on the DVD all about snow. I think we wore that section down already. My son had to keep watching it over and over again. Even though these shows are geared towards the 5 or 6 and under crowd, my 9 year old enjoyed them.
In the snow episode the magician showed the kids how to make a snowman out of paper, but much differently then you are thinking (I’m not going to give away the secret). Let’s just say it was a cute idea I think I’m going to have my kids do this coming winter to decorate the home. It was such a cute idea!
