BOO! Did I scare you…hee hee hee. I must hear that about a dozen times a day. One of my Ghosts in my collection talks. Every time you press his tummy he says “BOO! Did I scare you?” and then let’s out a non-so-evil laugh. It’s a silly non-scary Halloween toy.
This time a year that are plenty of scary things lurking around every corner. Even going to the grocery store you are faced with creepy looking holiday decorations. Personally I don’t mind but I know they can be frightening to little kids.
My kids love to read Ghost stories and watch mildly scary movies. What about about the younger children? Surely there is something for them that adds to the Halloween excitement but without scaring them?
There is a really cute book that I read a while back called Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story. It’s written by Linda Thieman.
Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story is about a young girl name Katie whose family moves into a new house. Little did Katie know that the new house was haunted by a young girl around her same age name Kimble. Kimble had passed away many years ago after becoming very sick. Since then she has remained in the house where she grew up all alone.
From the moment they first met Katie & Kimble become instant best friends. Katie was never afraid of Kimble at all, even though she is a Ghost.
Together the girls embark on a quest to find out whatever happened with Kimble’s beloved Mother.
I won’t give away all the details, you’ll just have to find out for yourself what happens.
There is a cute dog Twinkle in the story too.
This is not really a “Ghost” story, per say, but more so a story about friendship and having that special bond with someone. It has a lot of funny parts in it too. Even though it’s not a scary story I still think it would be fun to read, or read it to your child, for Halloween.
Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story is a chapter book. I love chapter books because I can tell my kids to go and read two chapters so it doesn’t matter how many minutes it takes them to read it. The book is recommended for children ages 7-10 but younger children might enjoy having it read to them. Both of my kids read the book. My daughter said it was really cute. My son said it was “girly“. I wouldn’t say it was “girly” just because it’s about two girls. He did say he liked the dog (he loves animals).
