Tomorrow, December 1, 2009, the sequel the to the hit Night at the Museum, will be release on DVD and Blu-ray. The sequel is called Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.
I never got to see the original movie in the theaters. I heard some great things about the movie that I had to rent it to see for myself. We loved the movie so much we went out and purchased it.
Once again I was not able to see the sequel, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian in the theaters. My children did get a chance to see it thanks to town camp. Both of my kids said it was “OK” and they both told me they liked the first movie better. None the less I still wanted to see the sequel so I could make up my own opinion on it. I knew Amy Adams was in the new movie as well as all the original characters.
In Battle of the Smithsonian we find that Larry (Ben Stiller) is no longer a security guard at the Museum of Natural History. Much to my surprise he has his own business now making up handy (or not-so-handy) gadgets.

Larry finds out one day that his friends at the Museum of Natural History (the exhibits that come alive) are being sent to the Smithsonian along with the tablet that makes them come to life. That would be fine except the Smithsonian has A LOT of exhibits and Larry feared what could happen if all of them came to life including many not-so-nice characters including a Pharaoh name Kahmunrah who wants to use the tablet for evil purposes.
Larry goes to the Smithsonian to see if he can save the tablet from getting in the wrong hands. There he meets a new cast of characters including Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart. My personal favorites are the Einstein Bobble Heads (they were too funny!). There is also another monkey name Abel who has a thing for slapping Larry like Dexter does. “The Thinker” was pretty funny too.

There is a nice mix of new characters and all the characters from the original movie.
Seeing this movie made me wich I lived closer to the Smithsonian. I haven’t been there since I was about 10 years old. I remember some of the exhibits but I know there are plenty of new ones that I have never seen. I’d love to take my family to see the Smithsonian and Washington, DC someday.
Will Larry save the day? You’ll just have to pick up a copy of Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian to see for yourself.
Overall I thought it was a fun movie just like the original. I think I still like the original a wee bit better but I still think Battle of the Smithsonian was just as fun. There were plenty of laughs. At times the movie was just plain silly, but so was the original so it’s to be expected. My husband enjoyed the Battle of the Smithsonian and my kids seemed to enjoy it more this time around then when they saw it at camp. I think because at camp they were too busy chatting with their friends to pay attention to the movie. I saw them laughing a lot during the movie so I know they were enjoying it.
I’m giving Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian a two thumbs up.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian is available on both Blu-ray and DVD starting tomorrow, December 1, 2009 where ever DVDs and Blu-rays are sold. Also available is a holiday gift set featuring the movie and a bonus DVD called Monkey Mischief.

There are also plenty of bonus features including deleted scenes which I thought were pretty good and probably should have been included in the movie some how. There is also an alternate ending which I wouldn’t giveaway here. I think I like the ending the used for the movie better then the alternate.
Of course there are movie trailers for upcoming released. Avatar looks SO COOL! There is also a movie coming in the spring (straight to DVD) called Flicka 2 which looks nice.
The Gag Reel found in the bonus section is funny and you should take the time to watch it. Sometimes the goof ups are more funny then the actual scene they were trying to do.

There are some commentaries from the writers. I find those interesting some times.
The Curators of Comedy: Behind the Scenes of Night At The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.
There is also a bonus feature that includes the Jonas Brothers for all the “Jo-Bro” fans.
Don’t forget to check out the bonus features because sometimes you’ll find a lot of entertaining features to add to your movie experience.
I have some cute coloring pages based on the movie. You will need to be able to open .PDF files to open and print out the pages. You can download Adobe free at www.Adobe.com. I cannot find a way to upload the direct link to the coloring sheets here in this post but if you want them please feel free to e-mail me and I’ll be happy to send them to you. They are pretty cute.

*I received a copy of the DVD free to do this review. There was no other compensation. The opinions expressed are my own.
