Make Today Matter Program – a FREE 5-day Facebook Workshop (Jan. 11-15)

I just found out about an interesting FREE Facebook program that will begin on January 11th and run through January 15th called the Make Today Matter Program. It’s based upon a new book called Make Today Matter Makeover by best selling author Brooke Noel.

Brooke, a Life management expert, says historically more than 80% of New Year’s resolutions are abandoned by late February because most people view resolutions as another pressure in an already pressure-filled life. I can TOTALLY agree with that statement.

Whether you want to curb your caffeine cravings, stop procrastinating or really reduce stress in 2010, Brook Noel is hosting a FREE 5-day Facebook Workshop (Jan. 11-15) based on her popular online course Transforming Resolutions Into Reality.

Here’s a quick outline of the program:

DAY 1: Ready, set, Goal! – Brook shares the crucial formula for creating a successful goal. Participants will apply these principles to choose a goal for 2010.

DAY 2: Visualize Success – During day two, Brook shares how seeing is believing when it comes to goal-work. Participants will learn the science behind visualizing and affirming a goal and begin to create a visual goal map.

DAY 3: From Vision to Plan – With our goal firmly in mind, we turn our attention to creating an overall big-picture goal plan to takes us from point A to point B.

DAY 4: The Goal Zoom-lens – During day four, participants continue to work with their goal plan and learn how to create manageable monthly, weekly, and daily steps to guide them toward success.

DAY 5: Action, Attitude and Energy – During our final lesson, Brook shares how attitude, action, and energy lead to long-term success and provides tips for maintaining motivation and high-energy as participants get ready to embark on a journey to make their goals a reality!

KneeBouncers – A Web Site for Infants & Toddlers

I know many of my readers have toddlers so I thought this cute site would be of interest to you.

I just learned about a site called KneeBouncers (www.KneeBouncers.com). It’s a FREE web site geared towards babies and toddlers that allows them to play games without the use of a mouse. To make things happen on the screen all a baby or toddler needs to do is hit any key on the keyboard. You can’t get any easier then that.

Currently there are 19 games, but one of them is a holiday game so that one will be removed shortly. The remaining 18 games are really cute. My favorite is the Music Maker game. You can choose from the drums, piano or guitar. There are also three songs to choose from for each instrument (for example Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star). Each time your child hits a key a different note to the song is played. The faster the keys are hit the faster the song plays.

There are cute games featuring the alphabet, numbers, circus, colors, shapes and much more. I also like the game Chasing Lights which features a police car, ambulance and fire truck. Every time your child hits a key the lights flash and the siren goes off, along with cute little critters that pop up all over.

The games and critters are very colorful and eye catching and are sure to delight any young child.

There is a forum where parents can interact with other parents and discuss the site and other things. Also available are cute coloring pages you can print out (the vehicles are sure to be a hit with little boys) and coming soon an iPhone application too.

I think this is a really cute web site and I can see why babies and toddlers would enjoy it. Best of all it’s free!

KneeBouncers has been the site of the week for many media outlets including the BBC and BBC Canada. Parenting magazine, and countless parents blogging sites have recommendations for KneeBouncers. Teachers of children with special needs and autism have written to us delighted by the response their children have from playing on KneeBouncers.

I am BEYOND addicted to Buckyballs!!!

For the past several weeks I have been enjoying (on a daily basis too!) a set of Buckyballs from Vat19 (http://www.vat19.com/). I have tried several times to video tape them but it’s impossible to show you how they work and tape them at the same time. I’m also embarrassed by my fat little hands and stubby fingers (LOL).

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I cannot get enough of the Buckyballs. I think I spend more time playing with them then I do cleaning (seriously…that is not a joke).

Buckyballs are tiny super strong magnetic balls. When I say “strong” I mean STRONG. Just one tiny Buckyball can hold papers to the fridge with no problem at all. My daughter put one Buckyball on the front of her ear lobe and one in the back and they stayed on her ear like earrings. I have even worn some Buckyballs as a bracelet one day and they stayed the entire day without falling off or coming undone.

They say that ONE Buckyball can hold a half-pound wrench! I totally believe that too. They are so strong, yet easy enough to pull apart from one another.

Buckyballs can be snapped together, pulled apart, molded, squeezed and used to construct an endless shapes like cubes, cylinders, and pyramids and more. I use them to make bracelets. You can even make them into a necklace. There is no end to what you can create.

The Buckballs can be used as magic tricks too. If someone doesn’t know they are magnetic you can do some amazing tricks with them that will blow people’s minds.

Here is a video that shows you a bit about Buckyballs. If you are reading this on RSS or via e-mail you really should check out this video. It’s only about a minute long but it shows you just how amazing the Buckyballs are.

I can’t tell you how many times I sit at my desk to write a blog post and I’ll open up my jar of Buckyballs and just start playing. Before you know it I have spent more time playing then blogging.

These are a huge stress reliever. You get so caught up in playing with them and seeing what else you can create with them that whatever is stressing you out seems to disappear.

The set comes with 216 Buckyballs. We haven’t lost one yet. Trust me, I’d know if my kids lost one. I’m very protective of my favorite play toy.

Currently Vat19.com is out of stock for the Buckyballs but they are due back in around January 4, 2010 (as per their web site). CLICK HERE for a direct link to the Buckyball page.

The Buckyballs sell for $30, which might seem like a lot, but the hours of enjoyment I have received from them I personally think it’s well worth the cost.

These would make a great gift for the person who has everything. They are recommended for ages 12+ but my 10 year old enjoys them too. My husband wants his own set to take to work with him too.

I have to say I am in love with pretty much ALL the products available at Vat19.com. I was not paid to endorse them in any way, shape or form. I am whole heartedly in love with their products. They have the coolest things!

Some of my favorites include…
Q-Man magnets (CLICK HERE to see a fun video for them)

Realistic Popcorn Soap (CLICK HERE)

Giant Edible Gummy Bear (CLICK HERE)

Construction Eating Utensils (CLICK HERE)

Unzipped Glass Bag Candy and Snack Bowl (CLICK HERE)

These are just SOME (and I do mean a tiny fraction) of the incredibly awesome things available on the Vat19.com web site. They have the most unique and coolest products I have ever seen. Some are very practical where as others just look like a lot of fun.

This would be the perfect online destination when you are shopping for someone who is hard to buy for or the person who has everything.

My favorite of course will always be the Buckyballs.

To check out more amazing and fun products visit www.Vat19.com. Many products have videos too so that you can see them in action.

*I received a set of Buckyballs free to do this review. There was no other compensation. I was not asked to review the web site. I wrote about it because I think they have the coolest products and I wanted to let my readers know about them. Any opinions expressed are my own.

Kudos to General Mills

I wanted to take a moment to give some kudos to General Mills for reducing the grams of sugar in many of their cereals, most especially those that are marketed towards children under the age of 12 (or in my husband’s case, 41. LOL). Not only that but General Mills has increased other vital nutrients in their cereals including Calcium and Vitamin D, as well as using Whole Grains.

Honestly, I have purchased the reduce sugar cereals for my kids and they don’t even know the difference. They have yet to say anything to me and are gobbling up the cereals like they normally do. I have tasted them myself and they taste the same to me. I too don’t even know the difference so it’s not like you miss the additional grams of sugar.

Did you know that people who eat ready to eat cereals often consume less fat and cholesterol and get more fiber in their diets compared to non-cereal eaters? This is according to General Mills. Frequent cereal eaters also have healthier body weights and a lower body mass index too.

Because cereals provide important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients it’s important to make cereal a staple in children’s diets.

Cereal is often lower in calories and fat than most other breakfast items. A bowl of cereal with milk is a much healthier option then bacon and sausages.

I make extra certain that my children have a healthy and filling breakfast each morning before school. I am a firm believe that children NEED a full tummy in order to help them concentrate better at school. It’s hard to focus on what the teacher is telling you when you are counting the minutes until lunch time.

A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.

Some people might think that read to eat cereals add to their child’s daily sugar intake. The truth is that cereal only accounts for 5% of the sugar your children have each day. Things like soda, cookies, fruit drinks and desserts account for much more then that.

I sometimes give my children cereal as a snack with their school lunch. My kids have even had a bowl of cereal as a snack at home. It’s A LOT better then some of the alternatives.

I found a lot more information about cereals by visiting the Cereal Health and Wellness page (CLICK HERE). There is a lot more valuable information found there.

General Mills also has a $1.00 off coupon that you can print out. Click Here if you are interested in the coupon.

*This information was provided to me to share with my readers by General Mills through My Blog Spark. I was sent free cereal coupons so that I could share the lowered Sugar Cereals with my family.

8 small white onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 lb. meaty chicken pieces, skinned
2 14-oz. cans of chicken broth
3 cups uncooked noodles

Directions:
Place carrots, onion, and garlic in a 4-quart slow cooker. Top with chicken; pour broth over all. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 6-8 hours or high-heat setting for 3-4 hours. Stir in noodles and cook 30 minutes more or until noodles are tender. Servings: 4 to 6

Recipe source: The Apple Dumpling Gang yahoo group, submitted by Darlene Saylor.

Someone in a Yahoo group I belong to shared this recipe with everyone. Seeing as how it’s going to be a super cold day here in NY tomorrow I wish I had all the ingredients to make this. I love using my crock pot and I’m always on the look out for easy, inexpensive meals.

I’m going to try this sometime this week (hopefully) and I’ll post about the results. I think I might add a dash of black pepper to spice it up a bit.

Enjoy!

PUR Water Pitcher Giveaway

I posted earlier today about how using tap water is more eco-friendly then bottled water and how much money it can save your family each year.

Water is an essential part of life. Our bodies require good, clean water in order to remain healthy. Sadly there are over 4,000 children in developing countries that die EVERY DAY from illness and disease related to unsafe drinking water. Just thinking about that statistic makes my stomach nauseous. Over four thousand beautiful children die each day because they can’t get a clean glass of water to drink. Think about that the next time you pour your child a glass of water to drink.

PUR along with its not-for-profit partner, the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW), are committed to alleviating this devastating global crisis by providing clean drinking water to those in need.

In January 2010, PUR is partnering with “Summit on the Summit”, a celebrity climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro featuring Jessica Biel, Alexandra Cousteau and others that will raise awareness and funds for clean drinking water efforts. For more information on the “Summit on the Summit” you can CLICK HERE. Dr. Greg Allgood, Founder and Director of CSDW, will be joining the climb as the water authority, educating the climbers on the global water crisis and what is being done to help.

There are ways that people like you and I can help this great cause. Simply by purchasing a PUR water system you are not only helping your own family have clean water to drink but you will also help a family across the world. For every PUR system purchase, one week of clean drinking water is provided to a child in the developing world through CSDW. So far CSDW has already provided 1.8 billion liters of clean water to children and their families around the world.

Please, if you have a moment, check out this video (below) to see what PUR is trying to do world wide. If you are reading this via e-mail or RSS please visit the blog if you can to see the video. It’s less then 5 minutes.

Look at the water these people are forced to drink and tell me, could you serve this water to your own family? I know I sure couldn’t.

PUR is a smart choice for families because the PUR water filter removes many of the common contaminants found in drinking water including 94% of atrazine, 98% of lead and other metals, 99.9% of microbial cysts and 96-99% of pharmaceuticals.

To learn more about PUR you can visit the official web site at http://www.purwater.com/.

In honor of this great new initiative PUR would like to giveaway one PUR water filter pitcher to one lucky She Scribes reader. Thanks PUR.
