There are some SICK (%@+%*!!) people in this world!

A few days ago, in a local park, a body was found that was set on fire. It was the body of a young lady. Her body was charred beyond recognition. The only thing that investigators had to go on was a tattoo on her back with a name on it and that fact that she had gall bladder surgery within the past few weeks.

It’s inconceivable to think about someone being murdered and then their body set on fire to cover up the horrific crime. That is just SICK! My heart broke for that young lady thinking about the events that lead up to her murder.

Around the same time her body was found, down in Delaware, a beautiful 20 month old toddler was found locked inside a gas station bathroom. She is such a beautiful little girl too! Who in their right mind could possible abandon a child in a gas station bathroom, not knowing what her fate might be? Did the person who did it think she would be rescued and cared for properly? Or did they not care? What if someone found that child and took her without notifying the authorities and then abused her? I was abandoned as a child but at least my biological mother contacted my paternal grandparents to tell them to come and get me. Leaving a child like that is just sick and disgusting on so many levels.

It turns out there is a connection to that beautiful little girl and the young lady found in a local park. The young lady was her mother! Her boyfriend, and the father of the little girl, murdered her, dumped the body and set it a blaze and then drove to Delaware and abandoned the little girl.

From what I am reading on the news he was married and has two children with his wife and a stepchild. I’m assuming that the little girl he abandoned was came about from an affair. That is wrong to begin with but that no way compares to murder and abandoning a child.

The police were able to determine this because the mother of the child was named Patricia, which is the name on the tattoo found on the burned body. Investigators also found a Facebook page for her and saw pictures of her daughter, the little girl found in the bathroom, on it as well.

I think maybe the young lady knew something was going to happen to her. On her Facebook page she quoted a lot of passages from the Bible including…

Almighty God, who gives strength to the weak and upholds those who might fall, give me courage to do what is right, for those that trust in you have no need to fear. Make be brave to face any danger which may now threaten me. Give me the help.

I am bless, so i can’t let u take that away from me…

Matt 3:2 “Turn to God and change the way you think and act, because the kingdom of heaven is near.” (this was written TWO DAYS before her body was found).

That poor young lady! She must have had an idea that something was going to happen to her. People just don’t post stuff like that “just because”.

I hope that man is locked up in the bowels of he** forever for what he did to that young lady and her daughter.

There is also a man in the news recently who tossed his THREE MONTH OLD daughter off a bridge! I think he should be hog tied and tossed of bridge too and let him live out the same terror that he inflicted on his infant daughter.

SICK! SICK! SICK people in this world!

I’m sorry to rant about something so upsetting. I just had to vent.

"Snow" Much Fun!

I’m not sure how many of my readers are in the North East. I’m in New York, just NW of NYC. We’re having a funky kind of snow storm that will last for 2-3 days. We’re getting heavy snow, rain, sleet, high winds and just a hodge podge of wintry stuff.

The kids had a snow day today and my husband bailed out of work early before the roads got really bad. Thankfully my family is home with me, safe and sound.

I’m not sure how much we’ll get when all is said and done. We’ve heard totals from 6″ up to 24″. The latest totals put our area in the 12″ – 24″ range. With the rain and sleet that effects the totals too so no one really knows. The last we checked we had 6″ before it started to rain and snow which turned things into slush.

My kids enjoyed the snow as much as they could today. Here are some pictures of my kids and our dog enjoying this wintry day.

My daughter had fun trying to build a snowman and sledding down the hill near our condo. My son on the other hand would rather shovel the snow. He shoved out the stairs in front of our building and was working on the sidewalk until my husband had to drag him back inside. Our son would shovel the whole complex if you let him.

He’s going to make a killing ($$$$) shoveling when he’s older. He’s only 10 right now but when he’s older…wow!

My husband has and ex-co-worker who loves to act like he’s a weatherman and posts weather reports on his Facebook page. He’s given himself the nickname “Doctor Mike”. In response to this my husband joked around with him and created his own weather report like Mike does and uploaded it to his Facebook page. Now my husband and this guy Mike keep making videos of themselves as wannabe weathermen. They are starting to get silly. It’s funny!

If you happen to be in the snow area I hope you stay safe and keep warm. Have a hot chocolate for me. ♥

It’s the MOST dreaded time of year…

… and I DON’T mean taxes (although that always stinks too!). For me the MOST dreaded time of year is when I need to visit my Hematologist for a check up. The past few years I have needed weekly IV infusions for my Anemia. They have ranged from 8-12 weeks.

I have severe Anemia, both Iron and B-12. I have always been Anemic. I was hospitalized when I was a toddler for Anemia. The problem only got worst when I had major surgery in the early 90′s, which also caused my B-12 Anemia.

Taking Iron & B-12 pills do not work for me. My body either doesn’t absorb them or they are not enough. “Technically” I’m SUPPOSE to get yearly Iron infusions and monthly B-12 shots, but for the sake of $$ (or shall I say lack there of) we cannot afford that. I could give myself my own B-12 shots and not have to deal with a monthly co-pay, but I cannot see me giving myself a needle. Ugh! No way!
My red blood cells are an irregular shape and very small in size. Your red blood cells are needed to carry oxygen to your vital organs and skin cells.

If you are unfamiliar with Anemia here is what you experience when you are Anemic. Anemia can make you feel tired, fatigued, weak, dizzy, irritable, short of breath or depressed. With Anemia, you may also have pale skin, brittle nails, chest pain, a coldness in your hands or feet, or an irregular heartbeat. Some people with Anemia also have a desire to eat ice or other peculiar things, experience sexual dysfunction, or have trouble concentrating or performing mental tasks.

I’m always feeling fatigued. I’m the palest person you’ll ever meet. When my Anemia gets really bad my ears ring and I get severe headaches. And I do suffer from Pica when it gets really bad (I crave ice and will eat ice all day long).

Here is an interesting tid bit about Anemia. When you are Anemic you don’t have those crescent moon shapes in the nail beds on your fingers. I have an ever so slight one on my left thumb. But that is the only one.

B-12 Anemia has the same types of symptoms and more. OH JOY! (<---note of sarcasm).

Anyway…

I dread my Hematologist visit because I know it’s going to mean another round of IV infusions (Iron) and B-12 shots every week for a period of 8-12 weeks. When it comes to IV’s and needles I am not bothered by them one bit. However I have deeply embedded veins that collapse very easily. It’s not uncommon for the nurse to start an IV and then have the vein collapse, or worst, blow, and then have to stop the IV and start over again.

Here is a photo taken last year when my vein blew. I took a photo of it because it looked like a heart. And yes, it was painful.

Rarely can the nurses get a good vein on the first shot. It takes multiple times before they get a good vein. The most “pokes” I had in one day was six. I’d say I average around 2-4. They even have to slap my skin and use heating pads just to find a good vein.

Come on…admit it…you’re jealous right? Ha Ha.

What makes it all even more of a “Joy” for me is that I have to go to the hospital to have it done. There is never any parking in the hospital lot so I have to park in a commuter lot, far from the hospital. Usually I end up on the top level, right up next to the woods. There is usually never anyone around either and I’m ALWAYS paranoid that someone is going to attack me. I could scream and no one would see me. There is no one around back there and that scares the heebie jeebies out of me. Then of course is the long trek to the hospital. Even more fun in the inclement weather.

You know what bothers me THE MOST about all of this? No, it’s not the pain and discomfort. No, it’s not the creepy parking area. It’s the fact that my infusions are done at the Cancer center at our local hospital. I can deal with the pain. It’s sitting there staring at people getting chemotherapy that BREAKS MY HEART! I have to sit there for about a 1/2 hour after they hook me up to the IV and look around the room at the 8-10 other people there all getting chemotherapy. I see what it can do to the body. I see how it devastates the loved ones who come to be there with their loved one while they are administered the treatments.

My mother in law died from Cancer and our dear sweet hero Kasey died from Cancer. Being surround by people suffering from Cancer actually makes me very depressed. I will sit there fighting back the tears. I try and close my eyes but I feel like I am being rude. Some of the patients are there for HOURS and desperate for some conversation. I have seen elderly people to people YOUNGER then myself there.

I do feel like a new person once I have had a few infusions in me. They give me energy and make me feel so much better. Like night and day! I just totally dread everything around having to get them done.

Oh, by the way, my old Hematologist used to give me iron injections via a needle in my rear end. The iron was cold too so you could actually feel it as it spread through your body. It used to leave bruise like marks on my butt about the size of a frozen waffle, or bigger! My current Hematologist said that practice was “barbaric” (that is a direct quote from him too). I think it hurt MORE then the IV infusions.

Wish me luck. I go to see my doctor on Monday. Hopefully I’ll only need 8 weeks.

Win an Oscar Party Pack! (Giveaway ends Sunday, February 28th).

What do you plan on doing Oscar night? The Oscars will air on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 8 PM (EST) and 5 PM (PT). We always watch them. Not only are we curious to see who wins the top honors of best picture, best actor and best actress, I also adore the fashions. I have always dreamed of wearing one of the beautiful gowns the lovely actresses wear on the Red Carpet.

The only movie I saw this past year that is up for best picture is “Up”, which I adored. I would very much love to see Sandra Bullock take home the Oscar for best actress. I think she’s sweet and I’ve always enjoyed her movies. It would be nice to see the Oscar go to someone who hasn’t won one before.

I think it would be a lot of fun to gather up a few friends and family and have your own Oscar party. Wouldn’t it be fun to get all dressed up in your best ensemble or gown, do up your hair and make-up and wear a lot of “bling” just like they do on the Red Carpet? You could set up some fancy finger foods and drink from champagne glasses. I think it would be fun to have some kind of Red Carpet in your own and have your guests walk it when they arrive and snap their pictures like you were part of the paparazzi. Maybe even interview your guests and ask them what their Oscar predictions are?

Since the Oscars on on a school night I might see about having a “Pre-Oscar Party” and have it end at 9 PM so that the kids can get to bed on time. Maybe a party from 7 PM – 9 PM would work.

TCM (Turner Classic Movies – http://www.tcm.com/) would like to help one lucky She Scribes reader throw their own Oscar bash by giving away a Oscar Party Prize Package. The package will contain popcorn, candy, a martini shaker, coasters and more. I’m sorry I don’t have an actual photo of the prize, but none the less the contents can help make your party fabulous. Thank you TCM!

Wi-Fire Review

Before I start my review I have to preface this by saying my husband was SUPPOSE to write this review for me. The Wi-Fire is a computer thing. My husband is a computer tech. He volunteered to do a review for me. He did a book review for me once and actually owes me a review on some Kaboom shower cleaner (yes, my husband cleans).

My husband has been very busy at work. They are moving from one office to another office about 10 minutes down the road. There are 800+ employees to move, most of which have computers. Since he’s the computer tech he needs to make sure everyone is set up properly in the new office. Thus the reason why he was unable to do this review for me. He’s super busy. So instead of a computer-techie review you are going to get a review from a non-techie person written in layman’s terms. LOL!

Have you ever taken a lap top around your home and found some “dead zones” that doesn’t pick up any Wi-Fi connection? Or have you taken your lap top out of town or to a friends house only to discover there is a weak signal so you are unable to connect? If this is happened to you then the Wi-Fire would be of interest to you.

The Wi-Fire is a portable antennae for your lap top computer to help you to pick up your wireless signal should you happen to roam outside of the Wi-Fi range, up to about 1,000 feet. That means if you want to take your lap top outside on a sunny day you can without risking losing your signal or getting a weak signal.

To give you an example of what I am talking about. My entire family has their own laptops (all used). Since we live in a tiny 900 square foot shoe box size condo there is no problem getting a wireless signal to connect to the Internet. Even outside on our balcony our signal is just fine.

My husband often has to access into other computers remotely from his computer for work. We have to take his laptop with us no matter where we go, including visiting my family upstate.

When we’re at my Father’s house my husband has a hard time getting a wireless signal to connect with the Internet. I’m not a techie so I don’t know the reasons why. All I know is that the only place my husband gets a signal is in the front yard of my Father’s house. I actually took a picture of him sitting on the trunk of his car working on his laptop one afternoon when we were visiting. I used the photo to make up a faux magazine cover. It was an inside joke between my husband and his co-workers at the time (he was affectionately known as “Super Tech”).

When I was asked to review the Wi-Fire I jumped on the opportunity because I knew it was something that could be useful for my husband.

Wi-Fire is made by a company called Hfield (www.HField.com). It easily connects to your lap top and after inserting the enclosed software you are ready to go.

My husband uses the Wi-Fire so it’s not normally set up on my computer but I took a picture to give you an idea of what it looks like attached on my computer.

The Wi-Fire is a large plastic “box” (for lack of a better description) that sits on top of your display screen for your lap top. The head swivels around 360 degrees so you can find the appropriate signal and strength.

Immediately after my husband set it up he was able to pull up A LOT of unsecured signals from various computer users within range. We live in a massive condo and town home complex so you can only imagine how many signals my husband was able to pull up. Using someone else’s signal is illegal, as far as I know. From a computer tech point of view my husband was flabbergasted.

To put the Wi-Fire to the test we had to wait until we visited my Father. His house seems to pose the most difficulty when it comes to getting a signal for some odd reason. After waiting a couple of weeks the opportunity arise and we were able to test it out.

My husband was able to pick up the signal to use the lap top. He was also able to pick up various other signals too (of varying degree of strengths) from unsecured signals. My husband knows not to piggy back someone else but I’m sure there are plenty of people who can use a product like Wi-Fire to piggy back on your signal if it’s not secured.

Since then my husband has played around with the Wi-Fire at work, taking the lap top into his car and other “tests”. He says that the Wi-Fire does help to pick up the signals. We’re not sure of how many feet away, but 1,000 feet seems to be “do-able”.

My husband is impressed. The only “cons” in his eyes (based upon what he told me) is that it’s large and bulky and not very portable. If you carry around a laptop bag it should be fine but if you want to roam around your home it’s a bit bulky to work with. He also says that it’s light weight and made of plastic and it seems like it could break easily. I’m not sure about that. I’m just telling you what he has said to me.

The unit sells for $59.00 on the HField website. I suppose if you need you need your laptop for work and you travel a lot this could be a very handy device to have.

If you have a husband or Father into computers this could make a nice Father’s Day gift.

For more information please visit www.HField.com.

*I received a sample unit free to do this review. There was no other compensation. The opinions expressed are mostly my husband’s, through me, with his permission, as well as my own opinions.

TCM 31 Days of Oscar

I really wish I knew about this sooner. I would have been happy to post about TCM’s 31 Days of Oscar way back when it started on February 1, 2010. I had posted about this last year for TCM and was able to giveaway some really fun Oscar notebooks. Currently I’m working on another giveaway for the 31 Days of Oscar. I’ll post that information as soon as I have it.

Even though the month is almost over there are still eight days left. The 31 day celebration ends on March 3, 2010.

What I love most about the 31 Days of Oscar celebration is the opportunity to see some of my all time favorite classic movies. During the course of the event literally hundreds of amazing movies are aired all day long.

The event kicked off on Monday, Feb. 1, at 6 a.m. with Kevin Bacon and James Coco in the movie Only When I Laugh (1981). The festivities then continued linking from movie to movie, one star at a time. The final movie in the festival, Diner (1982), starring Bacon, will bring the entire month full circle. This all reminds me of that infamous game of “6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon” where you can connect just about anyone to Kevin Bacon in a matter of six “steps” (or people). In this case it’s more like hundreds of actors.

TCM host Robert Osborne, who is also the official biographer of the Academy Awards and the Academy’s red carpet greeter, is hosting the 31 Days of Oscar, which will mark its 16th year on Turner Classic Movies. WOW! I never knew it’s been around that long.

The 2010 edition will feature 22 films making their debut on TCM, including Gladiator (2000), Titanic (1997), Mrs. Brown (1997), A Room with a View (1985), Trading Places (1983), Frances (1982), Only When I Laugh (1981), Alien (1979), Julia (1977), Serpico (1973), Lady Sings the Blues (1972), Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967), An American Dream (1966), Morituri (1965), Summertime (1955), Call Me Madam (1953), The Snake Pit (1948), Moonrise (1948), Kiss of Death (1947), Kitty (1945), Alexander’s Ragtime Band (1938) and One Hour with You (1932).

I love watching old movies, especially ones I have never seen before. I’m also excited to see many of my favorites.

I posted a schedule widget at the top of the left side bar. You can scroll down to the current date to find out what is airing that day. For today, Wednesday, February 24, 2010 the following movies will be airing (these are all EST).
