VerveCards (Membership Giveaway)

No one can argue that technology isn’t a wonderful thing. I certainly can’t, however there are few things that I miss that have been replaced by technology such as phone calls and letters sent via “snail mail”. It’s truly a gift to receive a hand written note from a friend or family member in the mail.

As a busy mom I know how impossible it can be sometimes to do things the “old fashioned” way. Sometimes even something as simple as swinging by the store to pick out a birthday card to send to a family member or a friend can be a challenge. Not only that but when you are on a tight budget every penny counts, even the $4 is costs for the average birthday card.

I think back to an episode fro Seinfeld where Jerry’s girlfriend gave him a thank you card and he tossed it in the garbage. She got very upset by it, yet Jerry didn’t think it was wrong. He questioned George as to how long you are expected to keep a card? When you think about it, is there really a right or wrong answer? Most cards we get we recycle after a about a week (we keep Christmas cards until the holiday is over). I do have a few cards from when my kids were little from their great-grandmother and grandmother. Those I keep for sentimental reasons.

Sometimes it’s more practical to send an e-card. There are plenty of sites on the Internet that offer e-cards you can send to family and friends around the world.

One company that offers e-cards is VerveCards (www.VerveCards.com). They have dozens of cards for just about every occasion.

What I find interesting about VerveCards is that they are very “funky”, fun and colorful. They are NOT your typical e-cards. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are very colorful. They also don’t express the usual sentiments. For example they have a Valentines Day card that reads “Happy Singles Awareness Day”. I got such a kick out of that one. LOL.

There is also a Halloween card that features a pair of legs in desperate need of a shaving that reads “Beware … in Costume, Anything Goes!”

I love that the VerveCards are so unique and “out of the ordinary”.

Another thing I like about the VerveCards is that when you e-mail the card to someone the recipient doesn’t have to click on a link or visit a web site to view the card. The card is right there in the e-mail. With so many viruses being spread via e-mail most people are very cautious when clicking on any links found within an e-mail. Sadly many viruses are spread through fake e-mails that claim to be a card from a friend or relative. With VerveCards there are no links to worry about. Just the card and any special message you might have.

VerveCards is a membership based card service. A yearly membership is only $14.95 and that gives you unlimited access to all the cards that you can send out as often as you want. With that in mind you can send family and friends cards anytime, even just to say “Hello” and to let them know that you are thinking of them.

Win an Orient Automatic Watch ($160 value)

I’m not much of a watch person. I don’t know why. I guess working from home I have access to a variety of clocks around me so I really don’t have a need for one. When I’m out and about I can just look at the time in my car or on my cell phone.

My husband loves to wear watches. Currently he doesn’t wear one because it needs a new battery and we just haven’t had a chance to get the battery replaced.

I was recently contacted by a watch company called Orient. They have really gorgeous looking watches on their site for both men and women. They are really “high tech” looking too with lots of intricate parts. I have never seen one of their watches in person but just from the images on their site they look like very high quality watches.

I read some of the Orient watch review and people rave about them. One reviewer says he own 20 Orient watches! Wow, he’s truly a fan of their watches.

I also see that you can WIN a free watch. Once a month, a reviewer will be chosen to win a FREE New Orient Mako just by doing an Orient mako review, either written or video taped. Sweet deal!

Even though I’m not much of a watch person myself I found a few watches that I would love to have. I found these two watches especially attractive for the ladies.

My husband saw a few watches he liked too including this really nice looking pocket watch. He said a pocket watch would be great for him because he does a lot of work on computers and having to crawl under people desks and cubes and used to have to remove his watch so as not to scratch it. He thinks a pocket watch would be ideal because he can just clip it on his pants and not have to worry about it getting damaged.

Orient watches range in price (from what I found) from about $125 – $1,800 (I cannot imagine owning a watch that costs more the my mortgage! LOL). With both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day coming up these watches would make great gifts.

Let is Snow, Let it Snow, Let is Snow…

How many of my readers live in any of the states that were dealing with the oh-so-lovely blizzard? I’m in New York and we got hit with a huge amount of snow. The last we checked we had about a foot. There might be another 1″ – 3″ before Thursday morning when it’s suppose to end. Of course that doesn’t take into account the huge snow drifts from the 30+ MPH wind gusts. Needless to say it’s NOT a good day to be “out and about”.

My kids were home from school today. In New York City they officially announced schools would be closed today YESTERDAY, allowing parents time to find childcare. NYC almost NEVER closes the schools. I think they closed like 3 times in the past 10 years (something like that). Knowing this you’d THINK our school district would have done the same thing. Nope…they wanted until 4:50 THIS MORNING to send out the automated message that said schools were closed for today. No duh! They should have sent the message out YESTERDAY and not before 5:00 AM, which incidentally woke EVERYONE up. My kids have an extension of our phone in their room (I have an almost 13 year old daughter…need I say more?). So both my kids were jolted awake too. Ugh!

My husband was home from work today too. They almost never close down his office. He works at an International Investment Company which deals with millions of dollars each day from people around the Globe. When the Stock Market is open, they are open. Today they made the exception, thankfully.

I spent the day inside where as my husband braved the elements and took the kids out to play. Although our son doesn’t play in the snow. He prefers to shovel. NO KIDDING! While our daughter was making snow angels, sledding down the hill and throwing snow balls at my husband my son opted to shovel out the sidewalk and our cars. We pay hundreds of dollars a month for landscapers. They are the ones who come and shovel the sidewalks. Our son usually beats them to it. And they have snow blowers too!

Here are some random shots from today. The first two are of a car that was TRYING to make it’s way up the hill in our parking lot. It’s hard to tell from the photos but the hill is very steep. We got a kick out of the wavy pattern it made on the road.

Here is my husband playing with our dog in the snow when he took him out to do his business. We live on the top floor condo. I was hanging out of our dining room window to take this shot. I also video taped it. I was going to share the video but you can hear me rambling and my son rambling about the snow too. At one point I told my husband I would laugh my butt off if he slipped down the hill in the snow. It’s hard to tell from the photo but the area he’s playing on is also a steep hill.

Here are some random shots of my husband, son and daughter. Notice how “fuzzy”the images are. That is from the snow that was falling at the time I took the pictures. The one picture of my daughter by the tree gives you can idea of how much snow we got. It almost comes up to her knees and it continued to snow long after they came back inside.

My husband does have to go to work tomorrow (Thursday) at his normal time (he leaves here around 5:30 AM). Our kids have a two hour delay in the morning so I get to sleep in a bit (yeah!). My morning is going to be a bit off track but I should be back on schedule around lunch time.

Two hour delays just seem so silly. That means they start school at 10:30 and some kids go to lunch at 11:00 AM. Our school also has off ALL NEXT WEEK for Winter Recess. Why not just give them Thursday and Friday off too?

Hopefully my readers are all safe and sound and not buried under all this snow.
