Despicable Me

Photobucket

Have you noticed the interesting “teaser” commercials on TV for a movie called Despicable Me? I noticed the commercials twice last night while watching “Life” on the Discovery Channel (LOVE the series by the way!).

Despicable Me is a new movie that is coming to theaters on July 9, 2010. It might seem like a long way away but really, it’s not. It will be here before you know it.

Here is the movie trailer to give you a glimpse of Despicable Me. For those of you reading this via e-mail or RSS you can view the trailer here, http://www.youtube.com/DespicableMeMovie.

Cute huh? I’m excited about this movie. It looks really funny. It also has an all star cast including Steve Carrell (The Office), Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly), Jason Segal (How I Met Your Mother), Julie Andrews, Russell Brand (British Comedian), and Will Arnet (Comedian).

Despicable Me is the story of a super villain, Gru, who leads an army of adorable little Minions and is armed with a lot of high tech super villain weapons. His arch nemesis is a super hero name Vector. That is until Gru finally meets his match in the form of three little orphan girls, Margo, Edith and Agnes. How is Gru going to steal the moon while playing Mr. Mom to three little girls?

There is a special web site and Facebook Fan page set up in honor of the movie. The official movie web site has some fun games including Tic-Tac-Toe (I did beat the computer) and build your own Minion. There are also movie downloads, trailers and more. I love the way it’s set up so Sci-Fi too. http://www.despicable.me/.

Interesting Dream

Here’s an interesting dream that perhaps someone could shed some light on.

Yesterday morning I woke up to the alarm. Just prior to that I was dreaming I was seated in the driver’s seat of a car (cab? limo?). My daughter’s 2nd & 3rd grade teacher got into the backseat. She filled in for our daughter’s 2nd grade teacher who was on pregnancy leave. Then they made her a 3rd grade teacher and that is when our daughter had her again. She’s a very sweet lady. She even invited the students to her wedding when she got married years ago.

Anyway…

We got to talking about kids (she has a little boy) and she told me she was pregnant and for some reason I was thinking the baby was going to be a boy. Then the alarm went off and I woke up. For some odd reason the dream stayed with me. Usually I forget about dreams the moment my eyes pop open, but this dream stayed in my mind for some odd reason.

I just looked up our daughter’s ex-teacher (from the dream) on Facebook and sent her a message to tell her about my dream. Then I noticed her “Wall” was visible. I scrolled around and looked at the pictures of her beautiful family. Then I noticed one comment she made about how it was a perfect day to have a glass of Pinot wine, followed by “…only 3 more months”. Then I scrolled down more and found a post she did back in February saying she was going for a sonogram and how she is due June 25th and she has a strong feeling it’s a boy!

OK…how WEIRD is that! I dreamed she was pregnant, feeling it was a boy, only to find out she IS pregnant and she feels that she IS having a boy.

How in the world did I dream that? WHY did I dream that? I haven’t seen her or spoken with her in well over a year. I haven’t spoken to anyone at the elementary school either.

Anyone good with dreams and/or “oddities” like this? I would love to know who and why I dream this? It’s so weird!

The Pillsbury Doughboy Makes Me Feel Skinny!!! (Nutrisystem Update)

Earlier this week I received a package from Pillsbury for a review. Oh… Oh… Oh… Pillsbury products are very hard to resist, even when you are watching what you eat. But I’ve been good the past several weeks with barely a slip up. Since I’ve been a “good girl” I doubt a few bites of something sweet by Pillsbury won’t “make or break” my efforts to lose weight. If anything it’s a good exercise is self control. Can I just take a few bites of something? Or will I lose control and gobble up the entire thing? Humm… we’ll see.

In the package from Pillsbury were these super soft and oh-so-comfy-looking pajama bottoms. They are a size Large. Sigh… way too small for my 3X butt to fit into. They are even too big for my daughter. She’s petite and shorter then I am too. I figured I’d have to give them to my sister. If you look closely you’ll see that the tag reads L (36-38) and you can see the Pillsbury tag too).

Photobucket

My husband suggested that I try them on anyway. He said that because they had an elastic draw string waist they might be a bit more “forgiving”. Yeah…yeah…WHATEVER! There is no way my butt was squeezing into those size Large pajama bottoms.

After a while I kept thinking that maybe my husband had a point. I figured I couldn’t wear them but I perhaps I could make them a “goal”. Another words my “goal” would be to finally fit into them. What happens next defies logic.

THE PANTS FIT ME!!!! I’m NOT exaggerating either. They not only fit me but they are oh-so-comfy too! I’m a size 3X 26/28… how in the world is my butt fitting into a size LARGE pant?

I think the planets must be aligned in some funky cosmic way because there is no way this should be possible.

I know there is NO WAY at my weight I’m a size Large, but perhaps I am so used to “seeing” myself as a size 3X and being a size 3X that I can’t see myself any other size. Maybe I’ve finally made it back down to the size 22/24 range? Could that be possible?

To prove I was able to wear the pants here is a picture of my legs (I’m not brave enough for a full body shot…yet). Yeah, this is ME! Well my legs anyway.

Photobucket

I’m wearing the pajama bottoms! SIZE LARGE!!!!

I attribute 99.99% of this accomplishment to being on Nutrisystem (the other 1% I am sure has something to do with the way the planets are aligned in our solar system…ha ha). Had I not lost weight this might never had happened.

This week on Nutrisystem went well…obviously. ♥ I started at 285.6 and I was 268.1 (possibly 268.2…it was flicking between the two. I’ll opt for the lower number). That means so far I’ve lost a grand total of 17.5 pounds!!! Wahoo!!!

I think a lot of it has to do with being able to get out and walk again since the weather has been nicer (although today it’s bitterly cold outside).

I’m very proud of my accomplishments so far. I may not be perfect every day. There are days I nosh on a slice of salami (I have this weird craving for salami lately), or grab a couple of M&M’s. I’m far from perfect. I think this time around I realized that I’m human, and there are going to be times I want a slice of pizza or a donut (Holey Donuts of course!). I shouldn’t beat myself up over it.

I’m starting to get used to portion sizes too. My kids eat the right portion size, but I’m still working on my husband. He’s the right weight for his height but he has a voracious appetite and cold eat the dining room table if it was edible (and not gain an ounce!).

So this is how the Pillsbury Doughboy make me feel “skinny” (or rather a “normal” weight). By the way, the pants say “This is how I roll” and has the Pillsbury Doughboy and a rolling pin. Ha Ha Ha…

Three Cheers for Dairy! (Great Giveaway)

I’m sure that almost everyone knows the benefits of drinking a glass of milk. Sure, it makes cookies taste great, but that is not exactly what I was thinking about. I was referring more to the benefits of drinking milk.

Most people assume we need to drink milk just for the calcium it provides our bodies. Although it’s true that an 8-ounce glass of milk provides us with 30% of our recommended daily calcium intake, milk has many more health benefits.

I think the most surprising thing I learned about milk is that it actually helps supply our bodies with vitamin B-12. Vitamin B-12 is not just for energy. This essential vitamin helps build red blood cells that carry oxygen from the lungs to working muscles. As someone who suffers from a B-12 deficiency I can tell you first hand that B-12 is very important to your health. Lack of B-12 can cause irreversible brain and nerve damage.

Photobucket

Did you know that milk is made up of 90% water? Each glass of milk you drink provides your body with valuable fluids to keep you hydrated. I never knew that about milk.

Dairy products also contain Vitamin A which helps to maintain normal vision and skin. It also helps regulate cell growth and maintains the integrity of your immune system.

I found these facts and many other eye-opening information about the importance of dairy on the Midwest Dairy Association’s web site, www.MidwestDairy.com.

Photobucket

Not only does the web site educate readers about how vital dairy is in our diets, it also had some pretty interesting facts. For example, did you know…

- It takes more than 21 pounds of whole milk to make one pound of butter.

- It takes 3 to 3 1/2 cups of broccoli to equal the calcium in one cup of milk.

- One cow produces about 350,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.

- People crave cheese more than any other food. I found this especially interesting. I would have thought it would have been chocolate. Personally I find that I crave cheese A LOT.

- Greeks eat the most cheese, an average of 54 pounds per person each year. Mmm…I LOVE Feta Cheese.

- Cheese making dates back more than 4,000 years.

- More ice cream is sold on Sunday than any other day of the week.

Photobucket

I must tell you, the Midwest Dairy Association web site is THE place to go to for everything and anything related to dairy. I learned so much from browsing the pages of their web site. It’s overflowing with fantastic information pertaining to dairy. Including some of the most delicious recipes!

I made my kids a recipe called Chocolate Bananarama Milk Mixer. They LOVED it! I tried a sip too. It was more so chocolate then it was banana tasting. Maybe next time I’ll try it with a bit more banana. It was like an ice cream shake in a way. If you let it sit for a bit then the consistency gets a bit lighter. It reminded me a bit of a banana split.

We also tried the Sunshine Lemon Smoothie. OH! This was amazing! I would have never thought to use lemon flavored yogurt in a smoothie. I love lemon yogurt to begin with (Lemon Chiffon made by Dannon to be exact), so this smoothie was ideal. I think this and maybe some toast would be a great light breakfast to start your day. Or use this as a mid-morning pick-me-up snack.

The Midwest Dairy Councils web site also has videos that show you how to make mouth watering treasures. One I find interesting and I can’t wait to try is the Swiss Cheese and Grape Salsa. Sounds unique but it looks really good.

Photobucket

My kids want to try the Crunchy Banana-Strawberry Parfaits. I just need to find something to make them in. We don’t have the tall dessert cups. I does look tasty! I think I might try using wheat germ in this recipe too for some added crunch.

After spending some time on the Midwest Dairy Associations web site I don’t think I will ever look at a glass of milk, slice of cheese or cup of yogurt the same way again.

To learn more about dairy and some of the most delicious recipes visit www.MidwestDairy.com. You can also visit their other web site, www.DairyMakesSense.com. There you will also find great recipes, information and even see their adorable cow logo. They also have a recipe for Pumpkin Pancakes there that sound delish!

You can also become a fan of the Midwest Dairy Association on Facebook (CLICK HERE).

The Midwest Dairy Association would like to encourage all my readers to make sure they get enough dairy in their diets on a daily basis. To do so they are offering an amazing prize package for one lucky She Scribes reader.

Photobucket

The prize package includes…

- A Cuisinart Hand Held Blender valued at $55.00
- An apron featuring the adorable Midwest Diary Association’s cow logo.
- A matching pot holder
- Magnetic shopping list pad (very handy on your fridge)
- A Midwest Diary Association magnet
- Recipe cards
- A multi-purpose cheese knife that looks like a Ninja tool! LOL! Sorry about the poor quality of the image.

Photobucket

I have the Cuisinart Hand Held Blender and it is awesome! We don’t have much room to store things. I love how slim and compact the blender is. It slips easily into my cabinet. I don’t have to worry about where to store it. It works great too! If you are a smoothie lover you’ll love the blender. It’s great for mixing up pancake batter and cake batter too. To quote an overly used term my kids use… this blender ROCKS! It’s so much easier to use the hand held blender then it is to lug the regular blender out of the cabinet and set it up. Even my kids can whip up a smoothie with the hand held blender.
