A Few Chuckles to Start Your Day

I adore the Maxine cards and cartoons by John Wagner. He’s been doing Maxine for Shoebox Greetings (a division of Hallmark) since 1986. That is the same year I graduated High School.

Here is an interesting little tid bit. The people at Shoebox Greetings referred to Maxine as John Wagner’s Old Lady until a contest among the Shoebox team selected the name “Maxine” as the character’s name.

Are You Planning a Trip to SeaWorld This Year?

I saw an advertisement for this on TV this evening. From now until the end of the year when you purchase an adult ticket to any of the three SeaWorld parks here in the United States you can get a child’s ticket (ages 3-12) for $5.00. That is a HUGE savings considering that a child’s ticket normally costs $68.95 (Florida), $49.99 (Texas) and $59.00 (California).

You must purchase the tickets online by going to SeaWorld Cares (www.SeaWorldCares.com). The E-Ticket allows you to print your ticket at home and go straight to the turnstiles, so it saves you time from having to wait on line to purchase tickets at the park.

There is a limit one $5 SeaWorld Cares child ticket with each adult ticket purchase. If you purchase two adult tickets then you can purchase two $5 children’s tickets, and so on.

100% of the proceeds will be donated to the charity of your choice. The funds will go to fund non-profit organizations that are working right now to help these wildlife conservation efforts. Such organizations are working on saving Dolphins, Sea Turtles, Manatees and the Coral Reefs.

I would LOVE to take my children to SeaWorld! I went when I was about 10 years old. My husband and I have been desperately trying to find a way to afford another trip to Orlando to visit the theme parks, including SeaWorld. Even my kids ask about going to SeaWorld too. They see advertisements for it on TV and it makes them anxious to go. Oh where is that long, lost, ubber-rich relative of mine who is going to bequeath me his millions in his will? Sigh…

I just checked out the Orlando SeaWorld park. If my family of four (two adults, two children) were to go the cost would be $453.70!!! OUCH!!! With the $5.00 children’s ticket promotion the cost would come to $167.90. That is a savings of $285.80! WOW!

If you are planning on going to SeaWorld this year on a family vacation take advantage of this special promotion. Not only will you save a lot of money you’ll also be saving precious creatures too.

Baby Sea Turtles. Aren’t they so cute!

What is Wrong with THIS Picture?

I am SO SORRY for not posting today. I have so many reviews, giveaways and other goodies to share with you.

I had a REALLY bad morning, topped off with a headache so severe that it made me want to vomit (sorry to be so gross). After I got my son to school and my daughter on the bus I came home and lied down and pretty much slept the entire day away. Even after I woke up I was still “out of it”. Here is is about 15+ hours later and I still have a dull headache.

I HATE not posting! It gets me behind and I feel like I have to post like crazy to make up for it. Between a few orders I have received for my business (yeah!) and now today with the headache from H… I have got so behind. I have a lot of catching up to do!

I have nothing to do tomorrow except to blog, blog, blog so I’ll start making up for things then. In the mean time perhaps you can help me out with this picture. Is it just me or does something seem “off” about this picture? I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe some of my readers can figure out what is wrong with it? If you look at it long enough it makes your eyes do funny things.

Until tomorrow…

Hair Care for Men

Unlike women, men usually don’t give a hoot about hair care. Most men prefer to “wash and go”, unless it’s one of those boys from that silly Jersey Shore show who have to slather a ton of hair products, gel and hairspray into their hair to make it totally immobile. LOL.

My dear husband loves things to be simple. He doesn’t need any complicated routines, especially in the shower. He takes quick five minute showers.

My husband grumbles a lot about the zillion different shampoos, conditioners and body washes in our tub. He doesn’t understand why people need all these different products (men just don’t understand…LOL). Give him a bar of soap and a basic shampoo and he’s good to go.

My husband has used Head & Shoulders long before we ever met. When he was a young teen he had a case of dandruff. His mom purchased Head & Shoulders for him. It worked well and cleared up the dandruff. Since then that is the only shampoo he’ll use, unless we run out and he has no choice but to use something that smells like Strawberry Parfait (ha ha). My husband believes “If it’s not broke, don’t try and fix it”. Another words, Head & Shoulders has always worked well for him so why would he want to try another shampoo?

Photobucket

When I was younger I used to think that dandruff was “gross” and I hoped that I would never have a need for a product like Head & Shoulders. That is until my husband and I got married and I had to use his Head & Shoulders shampoo one day when I ran out of mine. It worked fine for my hair, but I tend to like other types of shampoos.

Several years ago my Eczema decided to attack my scalp. It was HORRIBLE! If you have ever seen the movie, “The Breakfast Club” with Molly Ringwald and Emmilo Estevez you might remember the part where Ally Sheedy used the dandruff from her hair to add “snow” to a picture she drew (gross!). When the Eczema attacked my scalp my hair flaked WORST then that! To the point where I wouldn’t leave the house because I was so embarrassed!

My Dermatologist had me purchase a special shampoo that cost $40 for a TINY bottle. I have long, thick hair. It’s hard to use a tiny bit of shampoo in my hair, especially something that needs to reach my scalp. FORTY DOLLARS for shampoo! Ugh!

I thought I could find something better so I tried that tar shampoo. Gross! Gross! Gross! The smell was horrific!

One day I tried my Head & Shoulders shampoo that my husband had. WOW! Can you believe that it helped with the Eczema. With continued use it helped to rid my scalp of the flakes from the Eczema. And best of all Head & Shoulders is a mere fraction of the cost of that $$$$ shampoo I was told to use. Since then I have been a fan of Head & Shoulders and use it 2-3 times a week (usually every other time I wash my hair) to help keep my hair flake free, especially when I have an Eczema outbreak.

Photobucket

Head & Shoulders has a new shampoo available on the market that is geared towards men called Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance. Needless to say I was excited to get some samples for my husband to try.

Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance for Men not only helps with dandruff but is suppose to make hair feel fuller and cleaner. Fuller? Cool! I ♥ my husband’s hair. He has nice thick hair like I do (as do our kids).

Both my husband and our son (he has to be just like Daddy) used the Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance every time they washed their hair for the past few weeks. I actually asked my husband to write this review for me but he’s busy with other things and rather then wait much longer I will write it myself.

As per my husband… He said he noticed a difference the first time he used it. He said it actually made his hair feel cleaner. He said it’s different then the other Head & Shoulders shampoos we’ve been using. He says it feels like his hair was freshly washed at the barber’s shop.

I asked my husband if he thinks his hair feels thicker and fuller? He says it feels different. I had to have him elaborate a bit more. He said that yes, he thinks it feels thicker, as if he has more hair. It doesn’t look like he has more hair, per say (it’s not Rogaine after all) but it feels thicker and more lush.

My husband loves the scent of the new Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance. He joked that it reminded him of a “new car smell”. Not exactly but that was the only thing he could compare the scent to. I can’t figure out what is smells like either but it is a pleasant “manly” scent. Not strong like a cologne and not fruity or floral like other shampoos.

I asked our son what he thought of the shampoo and all I got out of him was “It’s alright” as he dashed off into his room to play. He’s a “man of few words”, and he’s only 10.

Photobucket

I also tried the Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance shampoo. It worked very well. I can see what my husband means about your hair feeling cleaner. My hair did feel like it received a good scrubbing. I honestly haven’t noticed a difference in my hair feeling thicker and more full, but that might be because my hair is unbelievably thick to begin with. The beautician has to THIN my hair out when she cuts it. Maybe it’s not possible for my hair to feel any thicker?

My husband is very pleased with the Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance for Men shampoo. I asked him if he wanted me to go back to purchasing our regular Head & Shoulders or the Endurance shampoo and he said he rather have the Endurance. So it looks like he’s a true fan.

Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance shampoo is available where shampoos are sold.

You can also receive a FREE sample on the website as well.

Mother’s Day Necklace Giveaway from Things Remembered (A Must See!)

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 9, 2010. As a Mom I love it when my children make me something special with their own two hands. When I was growing up I used to think that is was pretty lame of me to make my Mom some flowers out of tissue paper or a drawing when my sister was able to buy my Mom beautiful jewelry and read flowers (my sister is 8 years older then me). I used to think my gifts weren’t good enough compared to the gifts my sister lavished my Mother with. Now that I’m a Mom myself I can see that the gifts I bestowed upon my Mom on Mother’s Day meant MORE to her then the expensive flowers my sister picked up for her.

Mother’s Day is all about celebrating your own Mother and being a Mom yourself (if you happen to be one). Mother’s gift us life. Mother’s take care of us when we are sick, cheer us on when we need a boost of confidence and are there for us when we need them (ideally…sadly I know that is not always the case).

In celebration of Mother’s Day, Things Remembered (http://www.thingsremembered.com/) is offering a variety of beautiful Mother’s Day gifts to fit any budget. From stunning jewelry to a fuzzy Chenille Bath Robe, Things Remembered has something special for your Mom, or perhaps even yourself.

Some of the gorgeous gifts I found on Things Remembered that really stood out to me, and that I would love to get as a gift, include the beautiful music jewelry boxes that play actual songs including “I’ll Be There” by the Jackson Five and “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis Presley.

Photobucket

I LOVE the family birthstone jewelry. I used to have a familiy ring that had my birthstone, husband’s birthstone and both of our children’s birthstones on it. One day when I had to use the restroom at Walmart the ring slipped off my finger and fell in the toilet. UGH! Before I had a chance to think about it the toilet flushed on it’s own taking my beautiful family ring. OH! I was so upset. I’m STILL upset when I think about it and it happened years ago.

I never knew that Things Remembered sold apparel. Check out this luscious Chenille bath robe with a monogram on the chest area. I ♥ Chenille!

Photobucket

This beautiful sterling silver photo frame would also make a great gift for Mother’s Day. If you do give a photo frame as a gift please consider adding pictures to it prior to giving it as the gift. I think it makes it even more special to open a frame to find pictures of your loved ones already inserted into it.

To find more beautiful Mother’s Day gift visit Things Remembered online or at a retail location near you. There is a store locator search option on their web site. You should also consider becoming a fan of Things Remembered on Facebook (CLICK HERE).

Right now if you make a jewelry purchase for Mother’s Day, Things Remembered will include a beautiful silver jewelry box (a $25 retail value) FREE with purchase.

Photobucket

These beautiful boxes come with a separate plate that can be taken into Things Remembered and engraved with some one’s name, a special date or favorite saying.

I have the free box (Filigree), which is currently also on sale for $10.00 with any other purchase. It’s beautiful! It’s a nice size to hold my most precious jewelry. The inside features a creamy white velvet material and there is enough room for about four rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. There is even a pretty faux pearl on the front. Here is a picture of mine. It’s not as nice in the picture (due to the flash). It’s so much nicer in person. The piece that can be engraved goes on top in that oval section. When I get it engraved I’ll attach it to that spot.

Photobucket

I also have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL necklace from Things Remembered. It’s called the “Miracle of Life” necklace and its made sterling silver and features CZ stones that shine like real diamonds.

The “Miracle of Life” necklace features a Mother holding her child, surrounded in a heart covered in CZ diamonds. Behind the charm is another sterling silver heart that can be engraved with names, dates or a special saying. Mine has my children’s names and birth dates on it.

Photobucket

WOW! Is this necklace ever shiny! My husband said that he has to wear sunglasses just to look at it when I wore it out the other day when it was sunny out. It REALLY shines! Because it’s so shiny it really grabs people’s attention. I have worn it several times already and everyone makes comments on it. I have received so many lovely compliments on this necklace. It’s one of my most favorite necklaces that I own. It’s truly a special keepsake that will always be near and dear to my heart. I’m sorry the picture didn’t turn out good.

Readeo – Bringing Families Together Across the Miles (Giveaway)

When my children were little I truly enjoyed snuggling up with them and reading them stories from our favorite books. I think it’s a very special time that all families should engage in whenever possible. Sadly my children have grown up and are at the point where it’s “un-cool” to be seen with your parents, let alone read books together. Our daughter freaks out if we go to the mall with her. Ha! Got to love 13 year olds. LOL!

Sometimes distance comes between a parent and a child. Often parents have to travel for business and are not there each night to read their child a bedtime story. Especially those who are in the military, who have to go months at a time without having those special moments with their child. Divorce also keeps parents apart from their children too.

Photobucket

Readeo is a special web site that helps parents and children come together and read books no matter where they are in the world. Readeo is a special online service that combines video chat with virtual books.

In a nutshell this is how Readeo works. You set up a video chat session between you and your child (or even between grandparents and grandchildren). Together you can select a book from the Readeo virtual library. Both parties can view the book selected at the same time. As the parent reads the story and turns the pages the child can see the book pages as they are being read as well as the person who is reading the book, as well as her the book being read to them.

Hopefully I explained that right. Maybe this example might explain it better.

Let’s say Joe is in the military stationed in Okinawa, Japan. His son Timmy loves it when Daddy reads him stories before bedtime. Joe can connect with Timmy via Readeo’s video chat (providing both parties have a web cams). Together they can select a book to read. Let’s say they want to read this month’s book selection which is “LMNO…Peas“. As Joe reads the book to Timmy, Timmy can see his Father and hear him read the story to him. Timmy can also see the book illustrations on the computer screen and watch as his Father turns the pages, just like it was a real book. They can even take turns. Timmy can try reading the story to his Father too, or they can take turns reading the book.

I’ve checked out the site. It’s pretty cool. I wish I could show you how the books look. They are actual books and when you click on the corner of the page the page turns as if you were turning the page of a read book.

Sadly I don’t have a web cam so I was unable to try it out personally. You don’t even need to have a web cam if you don’t want to do the video chat. You and your child can still go on the Readeo web site and read the available books at your leisure. It’s a fun way to read books without having to purchase them, worry about returning them to the library or finding room for them on your bookshelf.

Here is a brief video about how Readeo works.

I like that you can create “bookshelves” so that you can organize favorite books if you have more then one child. Other people on your friend list can also recommend books for you and your child to read.

During the month of April Readeo is giving military families FREE six-month memberships. To learn more please CLICK HERE.

Photobucket

I really wish they had something like this when my kids were younger. It would have been so much fun to have them connect with Grandpa & Grandma this way.

Readeo has partnered with some amazing publishing companies including Simon & Schuster, Blue Apple Books, Chronicle Books and Candlewick Press, to name a few. They offer a wonderful assortment of books to delight any child. I read the book “LMNO…Peas“. It’s an alphabet book that features these adorable peas doing a variety of things.

Readeo has been featured on Military.com, Publisher’s Weekly and the Chicago Tribune.

There are three pricing structures for Readeo. You can set up a FREE account, where you are limited to only the book of the month. You can also pay monthly ($9.95) or yearly ($99.95).

To learn more about Readeo visit http://www.readeo.com/. You can also become a fan on Facebook by CLICKING HERE.

Photobucket

Readeo would like to give FIVE lucky She Scribes readers a full one year membership to Readeo. That is a $99.95 value! Thanks Readeo!

To enter please visit the Readeo web site (http://www.readeo.com/), check out the library section and pick out a book that you would like to read to someone special then come back here and comment on the title of that book and who you would like to connect with on Readeo.
