Storytime and Crafting Brings a Miniature World to Life! (Giveaway)

This is such a darling idea. I am excited to share this with my readers. It’s all about Benjamin Middlemouse, his best friend Bumper and how you and your child can be inspired to create your own miniature adventures.

Benjamin and Bumper to the Rescueby bestselling author Molly Coxe is a truly unique picture book that delivers a pint sized view of a larger than life adventure.  Photographs of incredibly detailed dioramas and a story chock-full of ingenious plans, humorous situations and surprising twists make this endearing tale of Benjamin, a fuzzy mouse and Bumper, his true-blue elephant friend, an instant bedtime classic.

When Benjamin and Bumper embark on a harrowing mission to rescue Benjamin’s mother, their travels take them from the floor of a wooden wardrobe, to the heights of a lofty kitchen table, through a dangerous garden path and up-up-up a castle tower to the lair of Sir Pouncelot, the book’s foppish villain.

Skillfully photographed by Olivier Toppin, Coxe’s uncommonly endearing felted wool characters are wonderfully alive, and her carefully gathered props of buttons, antique toys and cracked dishes are perfect for kids who delight in searching the illustrations for all of the tiny details that reveal themselves at the turn of every page.

The story is really cute and easy to read. It’s ideal for a beginning reader and even better as a bedtime story you and your child can cuddle up with.

The photographs are adorable. It’s amazing to think that they are real plush animals that were hand made by the author. So much thought went into each and every photograph, right down to the littlest details.

This sweet story is sure to inspire young artists to create their own little imaginary shoe-box-sized world.

The author, Molly Coxe, created a video to teach you how to make an adorable mouse using a baby sock, pipe cleaners and some materials you have around the house. You can view the video on YouTube via this link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LRAjC0RUik. It’s a short video that gives you step by step instructions on how to make your own adorable little plush mouse.

You can also get a “squeak peek” (LOL) of the book Benjamin and Bumper to the Rescue on YouTube here,  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryb8JfTyQcg.

How would you like to make your own little mouse that you and your child can use on imaginary adventures?

One lucky reader will win a copy of the book, Benjamin and Bumper to the Rescue as well as a Make-a-Mouse kit that includes everything needed to create two mice – including fabric for clothes and a few props for these hand-made mouse characters to use when performing risky rescues. Nutrisystem Update – July 30, 2010

I have not officially been on Nutrisystem a week yet but I figured I’d go back to posting my updates on Fridays. It makes it easier for me to do it that way.

As I suspected this was not exactly the right week to start (I’m sure the ladies know exactly what I mean). Still I managed to lose a pound despite it being that time of the month.

Last time I posted my weight loss/gain using pounds and ounces. I figured maybe it would be easier for me to just round up/down to the nearest pound.

One pound is not bad at all with all things considering. I’m certainly very happy with it.

With the recent shipment of Nutrisystem foods I received items I have never had with previous shipments including a hot dog and a few different kinds of wraps.

The hot dog was most intriguing to myself and to my family. First of all it’s a hot dog, yet it’s in a box that doesn’t need to be kept cold. The box was also very flat as seen in the pictures.

The Nutrisystem hamburger is freeze dried and plumps up when you add water. I thought maybe the hot dog was the same way. I was shocked to see that it was a real hot dog. I guess being sealed in the packaging made it go flat because once removed and microwaved for 30 seconds it plumped up.

This is a turkey hot dog. When it was cooking in the microwave it didn’t smell very good and I was concerned I wouldn’t like it. It is actually pretty good. I’m not keen on hot dogs because they tend to upset my stomach. This hot dog never bothered my stomach at all.

It’s not the same consistancy like a regular hot dog. A regular hot dog seems denser. This hot dog was light weight and a bit soft. Still it was pretty good.

I didn’t have a whole wheat roll so I used a slice of rye bread instead.

Another new food that I was looking forward to trying was the wraps. The first one I tried was the BBQ Chicken Wrap. The package comes with a tortilla and the BBQ chicken in different packages.

First you microwave the contents of the BBQ chicken package for 30 seconds. Then you microwave the tortilla for 10 seconds. Once warmed you spread the BBQ chicken on to the wrap, roll up and enjoy.

I have to say that this was very messy and honestly did NOT look very appealing. It looked like vomit (sorry to say that but its true). My husband even said to me “Your not going to eat that are you?”. Well of course I am.

I am happy to say that even though it looked gross and was very messy (the insides kept oozing out) it tasted REALLY good. There was a lot more BBQ sauce then chicken. The chicken is shredded. Whole strips of chicken would have been better but it was still good. I would certainly eat it again.

One other product I was looking forward to this week was the Peppermint Patty Cookie. I’m sorry I don’t have a picture. That poor cookie barely had a chance to see the light of day because I gobbled it up faster then I could unwrap it. OH! It was SO GOOD! It was like a big Peppermint Patty but a bit thicker because it’s a cookie. OH! I loved it!

Despite the poor timing to start back on Nutrisystem I think it was a fairly good week. One pound lost is certainly much better then one pound gained.
