Over the years my husband has tried different razors, from disposible to recharagable electric shavers. It’s always been a “hit or miss”.
Several weeks ago we received the new Gillette Fusion ProGlide razor. My husband actually tried it the same day we received it (he shaves at night after he showers). Right away he said he liked the shave he got with the Gillette Fusion ProGlide and he said it was easy to work with.
My husband continued to use the Gillette Fusion ProGlide pretty much every other day. I would ask him sporadically how the razor was working out for him and he said it was great, in fact he wanted to pick up more blades for it.
I can’t tell you how it works since I didn’t use it to shave my legs or anything like that. I have to go by what he said. My husband is a very simple, easy going kind of guy. He doesn’t get excited over much so for him to really enjoy the Gillette Fusion ProGlide and want more blades for it that tells me that he found something that works for him that he likes. Othewise he would have went back to something else.
I know his freshly shaven face did seem a lot smoother. With his course, thick facial hair sometimes even after he shaved there would be a little stubble here and there. It seemed like he was able to get a closer shave using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide. He also didn’t nick himself at all. Not once did I notice a razor cut on his face. I also didn’t notice any razor burn. He has sensitive skin and it’s not uncommon to notice some razor burn from time to time. He did not encounter that problem with this razor.
According to the manufacturer the Gillette Fusion ProGlide the razor has the following:
– Re-engineered Low Cutting Force Blades with thinner, finer edges and our advanced low-resistance coating, enabling the blades to cut effortlessly through hair with less tug and pull.
– A Blade Stabilizer to maintain optimal blade spacing for comfort, while allowing the blades to adjust to the contours of a man’s face.
– A streamlined Snowplow Comfort Guard which channels excess shave prep to help maintain optimal blade contact, stretching the skin for a close, comfortable shave.
– An Enhanced Lubrastrip™, larger than before, infused with mineral oil and lubricating polymers, enabling the razor to move smoothly over skin even on repeat strokes.
– An improved Precision Trimmer, including an enhanced blade, a comb guard to better align long hairs and new rinse-through slots.
– A Redesigned Handle with bigger, more ergonomic grips for better control, enhanced weight and balancing and improved transition between front and back shaving surfaces.
One day when we went food shopping we looked for replacement razor blades for the razor. We found them but the price was listed as $18.00+ for a package of 6. WOW! Surely that can’t be the right price?
We looked around at a few stores during a course of a week to find the replacement razor blades. Sadly it seemed like every where we went they would pricey. I was rather surprised at how much they cost. They were almost more then the cost of the razor it’s self.
The Gillette Fusion ProGlide is a great razor and well worth every penny, however it’s not for the budget concious consumer. We live on a very tight budget and my husband cannot bring himself to spend a lot on replacement blades, no matter how much he really like the razor.
I’m giving the Gillette Fusion ProGlid four out of five stars with the one star taken off for the cost of the replacement blades. Overall it’s an excellent razor and worked exceptionally well for my husband. He was very pleased with it as well. It did a great job on his course, thick facial hair and sensitive skin.
The Gillette Fusion ProGlide razor is available where most razors are sold.

If he wants to try an electric razor again someday, one of the newer model cordless wet/dry shavers would probably work great for him.
Most who use these and shave with their beard wet and with shaving cream (just like a manual razor) say that they get a shave that equals or exceeds a manual razor. And with no razor burn.
And though these new-generation electrics aren't cheap, they'll usually cost less in the long run than having to continuously buy replacement blades — which are rather expensive, as you've learned!

I've been wondering about this one for the hubby and I agree replacement blades for just about ANY razor are very expensive 🙁
