Imagine if your body could speak to you. Really. Imagine if it could really speak to you. For children, learning has to be imaginative and fun. So, as the childhood obesity crisis persists, teaching children about health and wellness is imperative, but it has to be imaginative and fun. See for yourself by visiting http://www.organwiseguys.com/kids.html and listening to The Buddy Song.
Summertime provides a great opportunity to introduce and reinforce the healthy habits we all want to instill in our children. During the summer months we can find plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables to teach our children how to make healthy food choices. The great weather (well except for those unbearably hot and humid days) are also a great time to encourage your children to get active and exercise.
Another great way to teach your children about health is with the help of the OrganWise Guys. They make learning about nutrition and physical activity FUN and memorable for children ages 3-12. Even my 13 year old was entertained by the Organ Wise Guys and found them rather cute and charming.
The Organwise Guys features a loveable cast of characters: Hardy Heart, Peri Stolic (large intestine), Sir Rebrum, Pepto the Stomach and Sid and Kid Kidney (the Kidney Brothers). They also have some amusing friends such as Calci M. Bone, Windy the Lungs and Madame Muscle. This fun, friendly. delightfully eccentric cast of characters each represent a specific body part. The cast invite children and parents to join them on child friendly experiences as they learn to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity into their daily lives. They deliver bite-sized messages meshed with humor, songs and adventure.
The Organwise Guy’s motto is “We love who we live in, so please take care of us”.
Who knew that an intestine could be so cute? Or kidneys could be so funny? It’s certainly very odd to say those things, but it’s true!
Organwise Guys remind me of a cross between Teletubbies (remember them?) and Bear in a Big Blue House (Disney Channel). The Kidney brothers remind me of the purple weasels Pip and Pop from Bear in a Big Blue House. They characters are puppets which is another reason why it reminds me of that show. Each episode of the DVDS also feature real life children interacting with the Orgainwise Guy characters/puppets, putting what they learned from the characters into action, similar to how Teletubbies would feature real live children.
I was sent two DVDs to review. The video “H2Ohhhh!” is all about water. Not only does it teach children the importance of drinking water but also water safety. I was surprised to see that. In a way safety is also all about being healthy too. The other DVD, “Extreme Couch Potato” focuses on Hardy Heart who was diagnosed with “ECP” – Extreme Couch Potato. All he does is sit around and watch TV and play video games. He snacks on unhealthy things and doesn’t even drink enough water. With the aide of Madame Muscle, Hardy learns how to turn off the TV and get some physical activity and learn to eat right. I’m sure plenty of parents can relate as I’m sure many have their own mini-couch potatoes at home watching TV and playing video games.
I also received a hardcover book and a fun activity book. The activity book features a lot of coloring pages and activities such as dot-to-do, work searches, hidden pictures and secret messages that need to be decoded.
I LOVE the hardcover book. I think every classroom should have a few copies of this book. It’s all about how your insides work and how to take care of them complete with funny, colorful pictures. Everything is included from your heart to your kidneys. Both of my kids told me that they thought the book was easy to read and they said they both learned from it too. For example my daughter found the part about the large intestines very interesting. In the book they use a tube of toothpaste to show you how your intestines should work if they are fed the right foods (high fiber) and what happens when you eat a lot of junk. My son likes how they make you think of your body as an expensive car that only gets more valuable with age and how you wouldn’t want to be driving around a rusty old junk car.
The Organwise Guys offer a lot of great products for home and classroom use on their website, www.OrganwiseGuys.com. My kids love the plush figures of the Organwise Guy characters. We were sent Hardy Heart and Sid & Kid Kidney. They are small plush, about the size of a beanie baby. Watch out for your dog. They will think the plush are for them. One of the Kidney brothers became a snack for our dog we were able to rescue him before there was any damage.
Also on the Organwise Guy site is some great teaching tools for not only for teachers but also for parents and homeschoolers. There are also fun activities for children including coloring sheets and print outs.
I am genuinely very impressed by the whole Organwise Guys concept, not only from a parent’s point of view but also from an educational point of view. I can’t think of a more fun way to teach children about the importance of eating healthy and exercising. The materials make learning about health fun and entertaining. Personally I think children learn better when they find the materials enjoyable and easy to relate to.
The Organwise Guys would love to give a Summer Fun package to a lucky reader. The kit includes:
– The Kidney Brothers & Hardy Heart plush toys
– Two DVDs – H2Ohhh! and Extreme Couch Potato
– Hardcover book & activity book
– Set of 10 Organwise Guys tattoos (sorry I don’t have a picture of those – my kids used them all up).
This is over a $60.00+ value!

Main entry: http://www.organwiseguys.com offers so much to help kids learn about the human body. There are interactive games to play and coloring pages to print out. The names of the organs are so cute! I think Organwise guys is a great learning tool for children. I would love to win the Summer Fun Kit for my granddaughter. Thank you for the chance.
