My apologies for not posting this yesterday (Friday).
Today is my son’s birthday. He’s officially 11 years old. Yeah! However with birthdays there comes things that those who are trying to lose weight dread – birthday cake and party foods.
First I have to say that I am down another 3 pounds. I am VERY pleased with the weight loss. I have been able to get out and walk around a lot more then in weeks past and I truly believe that with any weight loss regieme, exercise is key to making it successful.
Despite the fact that today was my son’s birthday, and we took him out for dinner and we baked him a cake, I still feel that I did well. I actually stopped having my desserts/snacks on Wednesday to make up for the extra calories from this weekend. Surprisingly it wasn’t as hard to give up as I thought it would be. I did crave a snack the other night but rather then use the Nutrisystem snack I opted for sugar free Jello which had about 10 calories.
Our son wanted to go to Applebees for dinner. YIKES! Too much good food on their menu. We havne’t been there for many months too.
I was very surprised to see that calories were listed on pretty much all of the menu items. WOW! You wouldn’t believe how many meals are over 1,000 calories! I think knowing how many calories you are consuming is really an eye opener. There were items on the menu that I know I would have ordered many months ago (1,300+ calories, 1,500+ calories…). Instead I opted for the Grilled Chicken & Portobello Mushrooms. It was 550 calories. It also came with steamed broccoli and some steamed herb potatoes.
You CAN eat “real foods” while on Nutrisystem. You just have to use common sense and NOT indulge in high calories, fattening foods. If you are going to eat non-program foods just make healthy choices.
Later on in the evening when we came home and had our son’s birthday cake I had an itty bitty piece with NO frosting! I removed the frosting off the cake and just had the cake. It wasn’t worth an extra 100 or more calories for a teaspoon of frosting.
I am very happy with my weight loss on Nutrisystem. There have been good weeks and bad weeks. There have been much more good weeks then bad weeks. There have only been a few weeks where I gained or didn’t lose anything. Hormones often come play in the weight loss numbers.
Just recently I ordered some new cooler weather clothing online. My mind automatically goes towards 3X (26/28) clothing. All of the items I purchased were in that size. When they arrived I tried them on and found that all but two things were clearly WAY TOO BIG on me!
My husband doesn’t understand why I didn’t order smaller sizes. Even though the scale says I’m smaller I don’t SEE myself as being smaller. I do have several pairs of shorts that no longer fit me. They LITERALLY fall off of me! I’m more around the size 2 X (22/24 – I’d say closer to 22).
I have to return all but two pieces of clothing that I ordered. The only two I kept were plain sweatshirts. Sometimes on a super cold winter day it’s nice to have a big, comfy sweatshirt. I also like them big because I can layer underneath them when I go outside with my family to play in the snow.
I know I’m not alone in my thoughts. I know many people who have lost weight who still see themselves as much larger then they normally are. I guess once you start working on my body you next have to work on your mind.
On a side note I came up with a couple of different ways to eat the Nutrisystem pizza.
The other day I was going to make the pizza for dinner but I was so hungry for some reason and I couldn’t wait. On a whim I took a bit out of it before I put it in the microwave and it was actually pretty good!
The next time I have pizza I’m going to add a serving size of pineapple to it. I LOVE pineapple pizza! I haven’t had it in ages and I miss it. I think it would be interesting to put a few cup of chunks of pineapple on the Nutrisystem pizza before warming it up.
Speaking of pizza, tomorrow (Sunday) we’re going upstate for a family birthday party. My Father is ordering pizza. We’ll also have chips, dips and of course cake. I’m bringing up a veggie platter of carrots, cucumbers and green peppers. At least I can nosh on something too without being tempted to reach for the chips.
Here’s to another successful week!

Hey congrats! Sounds like you are doing great on the program! I’m going to start nutrisystem during november. Any tips I don’t know what they are going to send me yet. For the birthday cake I’d bake a sugar free cake with sugar free icing so I could have a gull piece. Splenda makes a great tasting cake and buttercream frosting possible.
Congrats Kimberly! You’re doing awesome! I totally understand what you mean about buying smaller clothes when you don’t really believe it!
Sounds like you are doing great! I am also trying to lose weight. I am doing a challenge called Lose to Win. I started at 2X/3X and am always amazed when something I’ve had that has been tight fits good now. I totally get the surprise feeling you had receiving your new clothes in the mail and them being too big. I look at myself and don’t see any changes, but I have lost around 25 lbs so far. I wonder how much we will have to lose before we see the changes in ourselves?
I look forward to following you on your weight loss journey.

A day late Happy Birthday to your son.
Eleven is a nice age.
Hey I think it’s great that you are now a 2X from a 3X. So and steady progress is the way to go because you’ll learn the habits you need to maintain your losses this way.
Congrats on losing 3 lbs this week! That’s a great loss! And it sounds like you are making some great choices!
First of all, happy, happy birthday to your son!! That has to be very exciting for him, turning another year older
Second, congratulations on your weight loss! When I lost the weight I gained from being sick and bedridden (20+ pounds), it was difficult seeing myself as “skinny.” I’m still by no means a skinny person, but I’m now ‘curvy’ and somewhat toned and when people comment on it, it’s like really? Are you talking about me?
You’re doing such a wonderful job!! Keep up the great work and keep those updates coming xD
