In the time leading up on Halloween I love to watch creepy horror movies. I have pretty much seen them all so nothing really scares me at this point. Movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street… I have seen them all at least a couple of dozen times. They never really scared me because I have always had it in my mind that these movies are fake and that such monsters don’t really exist. Or do they?
This weekend the Discovery ID channel is having a series of special programming that will certainly leave you believing in real life monsters. They might not wear a broken hockey mask or have knifes instead of fingers, but these monsters are by far much scarier then any fictional character ever created.
Kicking off the weekend the Discovery ID channel did an encore airing of the documentary Cropsey on Friday, October 29th. This spine-tingling documentary by film makers Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio will help uncover a real life Boogeyman that terrorized Staten Island many years ago. You can read my complete review of the documentary at this link, https://www.shescribes.com/2010/08/what-if-an-urban-legend-was-real.html.
A new series that will premiere on Saturday, October 30th, will surely leave you believing in monsters. The series is called American Occult. Each episode documents two different stories surrounding murders and other horrible actions committed by occults.
I was able to get a sneak peek at the premiere episode entitled Savage Sin. I should warn you this is NOT for the faint at heart! The show uses actual crime scene and autopsy photos. Ewww! I don’t want to tell you what flesh that has been decaying for 20+ years looks like. And the close ups of maggots were pretty gross too.
In the episode American Occult: Savage Sin, you will learn about two different stories. The first story is about random women who were found murdered around the Chicago area. The disturbing thing about the murders is that each victim had her breasts removed. What makes it even more horrific is that the victims were ALIVE when their body part was taken from them. How incredibly SICK is that?
The second part of the episode is the story of a nun who was brutally murdered inside a Catholic hospital. The crime is more bizarre because the prime suspect is a priest who worked at the hospital. The nuns murder was also commit in such a way to lead authorities to believe it had something to do with Satan worshipping. But who in the Catholic church was the monster who worshiped the devil and murdered a nun? You’ll be SHOCKED when you find out who committed the crimes.
Mark Twain once said that the “truth is stranger then fiction“. In these cases the truth is SCARIER then fiction. I know that Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) and Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street) and their murderous deeds are completely fake. That is why those movies don’t bother me. Watching shows like American Occult SCARE me because these crimes and criminals are 100% real!
To round out the weekend of stories to make you afraid of things that go bump in the night is a marathon of programming about shocking tales of infidelity that end with tragic outcomes. These are some of Discovery ID’s most talked-about episodes featuring stories of spousal revenge will air back to back from 3 PM to 11 PM ET on Sunday, October 31, which is being dubbed “Trick or Cheat“.
