Lysol’s Mission For Health Program & Gift Card Giveaway

Brrr… as I type this I am actually freezing my butt off. I’m wearing sweat pants, a long sleeve shirt and my bunny slippers (yes, I really own a pair).

The cold temperatures always remind me of something I totally dread – COLD SEASON! And by cold of course I mean illness, not temperatures.

I’m neurotic when it comes to germs and disinfecting things. I wipe down or spray down everything to make sure that there are no germs that will make us sick. I disinfect the phone, light switches, handles, knobs, remote controls… you name it!

I do this to protect my family from serious illnesses. There is also nothing worst then a sick child who you can’t do more for except give them medicine and wait it out, or a sick husband (ladies, I’m sure you know what I mean – ha ha). There is also no one to take care of Mom (me!) when I’m sick. If my chest gets congested I end up having to go on Asthma medication and I rather NOT have to do that. Its expensive and I hate the idea of inhaling steroids.

I use a lot of Lysol sprays and wipes. This time of year I love the Vanilla scented spray. It goes so well with the fall season. I always make sure to keep an extra can on hand just in case.

I believe a lot can be done to prevent the spread of germs through common sense things like washing your hands with soap and warm water for a minute or two, sneezing into a tissue or you elbow, disinfecting areas prone to germs, and keeping yourself healthy so that your immune system can fight illnesses off.

Lysol thinks the same way I do and has developed a program designed to teach healthy habits to children and families. Hopefully the results will be an increase school attendance and less sick days at the office.

Lysol’s Mission for Health campaign is a program that is focusing on our communities, schools and our homes. They have developed programs for new moms, programs that educate children in school about germs, and disaster relief efforts.

You can join the Lysol community where you’ll be able to share idea’s, and participate in great conversation about topics such as:

- Healthy Habits in School

- New Moms – Newborn tips with pediatrician and Mom, Dr. Laura Jana.

- Colds & Flu

- Allergies

- Keeping Your Home Healthy

- Money Saving Coupons

- Tips from other community members on how they stay healthy and keep their family free from germs.

Lysol is even having a series of contests in the schools: Lysol Blue Ribbon Attendance Challenge, a Healthy Hero Contest, and Hand Washing Song Contest. They are giving away over $75,000 worth of gifts and prizes.

I learned that you should change hand towels and tea cloths regularly, and do not use cloth towels to dry your hands; instead, use paper towels to throw germs away.

Wiping down surfaces once a day is a great idea. As is wiping down my keyboard and office phone. I definitely don’t do that enough.

ok sounds silly but we even wipe down the mailbox- the mailman touches so much, and we do doorknobs, keyboards and wipe down the car too. My teens have a pack in their locker and when they go to class they take a wipe and do the keyboards- teacher will not let them donate a can to use

Here is my favorite tip: Keep bathroom surfaces dry and make sure you have adequate ventilation to prevent the growth of mold and mildew, which can release allergenic spores into the air.

My advice….wipe or spray Lysol on everything! Whenever someone in our house is sick I wipe down all surfaces and spray all doorknobs, water faucets, even our beds when I change the sheets. I also wash the sheets with bleach (color safe for colors) to kill any extra germs!
