I have always enjoyed playing around with photo editing software. I use it to “tweak” my photos to make them as best as they can possibly be. I also use photo editing software to add special effects to images to turn them from “drab” to “fab”. Sometimes a photo is not as good as it could be but with a little photo editing magic and any picture can be a work of art.
I have been using Roxio for years now to burn files on to discs. I have also toyed around with Roxio PhotoShow. Here is a music video I did last year when my family and I attend and event at Radio City Music Hall as part of the Christmas Spectacular as well as a video I made last year using Roxio with random pictures from the summer. Both have music in case you are interested. I also cannot get videos to center with my site’s template. Sigh…
I have always had a positive experience working with Roxio products and services. When I was offered the opportunity to try out Roxio’s Creator, 2011 version, I was thrilled. I have never dabbled with Roxio Creator so I was interested to see what I could do with it.
Roxio Creator 2011 is both a photo editing software as as well as video editing. I take a lot of pictures so it was easy for me to play around with the editing options. I rarely take video, however my son does, so I let my son play around with the video options.
Roxio Creator 2011 offers many features to alter your photos to help make them the best they can be. You can crop, fix color flaws, remove blemishes, restore old photos and many other editing options. You can also create projects such as calendars and cards using the Roxio Creator 2011 software.
If you like the photos shows (videos) I created (shown above) you can also do something like that using this software. In fact there is so much you can do that I haven’t really had a chance to try out half of it yet.
The most amazing thing you can do with this software, unlike any other photo editing software I have ever had the pleasure to use, is turn 2-D photos into 3-D photos! This was the feature I was most excited to try out.
Turning photos into 3-D photos is actually a lot easier then you think. The software does most of the work for you. All you need to do is select the image you wish to make into 3-D, do some tweaking to get it to stand out the way you like, and you are done.
The software does come with a pair of 3-D glasses so you can see your photos come alive. Sadly the glasses are cheap (like the kind we used to get years ago for 3-D movies). I would preferred plastic glasses. They are a lot more comfortable to wear and more durable. The cardboard glasses can get ruined easily which makes it hard to work on 3-D images without them.
I had fun picking out pictures and making them into 3-D images. I wouldn’t say that they were top quality 3-D images, but it was fun none the less.
Here are a few photos I did. Without 3-D glasses they won’t really look too impressive.
If you happen to have 3-D glasses check out he photos and let me know what you think.
For some odd reason my photos all turned out green’ish. I followed the manual to a “T” yet all my photos turned out the same way. Its OK I suppose but I would love to have kept things more true to color.
I enjoyed turning photos into 3-D images. My family got a kick out of passing around the glasses and seeing what I was able to do. It was fun but I think the program still needs a way to go before people like me and you can create top notch 3-D images.
The 3-D technology carries over into the video editing portion of the software too. That’s right! You can also turn your videos into 3-D videos as easily as you can with photos.
I could not figure out how to add one of my son’s 3-D videos to this post. My son is the video editing “pro” in our family, and he’s only 11. I cannot imagine the amazing things he’ll do when he’s older. He’s truly gifted when it comes to technological stuff like this.
What I can tell you is that yes, you CAN created 3-D videos using Roxio Creator 2011. The only downside is that unless the people you share it with have 3-D glasses the only people who can appreciate it is you. Just like with the pictures my family each took turns with the lone pair of 3-D glasses to check out the 3-D videos my son made. It would be fun to share these creations with family and friends but without 3-D glasses it would be pointless. It makes better sense just to send regular videos.
Roxio Creator 2011 also allows you to play around with music and create your own play lists and even create custom ring tones. I played with the ring tone feature but I cannot figure out how to get the ring tone on my phone.
The sound editor part of the software looks really impressive. I only dabbled in it. I really didn’t get into it too much because I am “technologically challenged” some times and I was afraid I’d mess things up.
Just like with the other Roxio program we have had for years we can use the Roxio Creator 2011 to burn important documents, images and even sound files to discs for safe keeping.
I have just barely scratched the surface of all the things you can do using Roxio Creator 2011. From creating calendars to editing videos to make them look more professional… there is just so much you can do with this program. As a regular person I think there is more on this software then I’ll ever use or have a need for. But then again, you just never know.
The price for the software is comparable to similar editing programs at $79.99. Unlike other programs the Roxio Creator 2011 comes with a lot of videos and tutorials to help you learn the different functions on the software program. I found that to be VERY helpful and I appreciate that Roxio took the time to do that for people like me who are so easily confused (ha ha).
The only downside that I can see is that it took FOREVER to load onto my computer. Once it was loaded it was fine. It was the initial loading of the software that took way too long. I actually left the computer to have dinner and clean up because I couldn’t be bothered to sit and wait for it to get finished. I couldn’t do anything else on the computer while it was loading.
I love the 3-D option and I think that is going to be a big selling point for this software. The only downside is that its not “perfect” so you’ll be disappointed if the quality is not like something you see in theaters.
