The Great Stuffing Debate ($50 Visa Gift Card Giveaway)

Thanksgiving is a time to not only be thankful for all that we have, but also to spend quality time with family and friends. Another great thing about Thanksgiving is the food. Mmmm… so much delicious food! Turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pie, and of course stuffing. You can’t have Thanksgiving without the stuffing. That is one highlights of the meal, along side the turkey.

To be honest I have never tried stuffing the turkey with stuffing. My mom never did it that way, nor did my mother in law. I have always only had the stuffing “outside” of the bird. In a way I think its kind of gross to cook it inside of the turkey too but I know many people who swear that stuffing made inside of the turkey is the best. I hear it really picks up the flavor of the turkey.

I suppose one day I could try and make it that way but I wouldn’t even know where to begin. The idea of sticking my hand inside the carcass grosses me out. I let my husband do all the dirty work. LOL! He’s the one who fishes out that bag of giblets and other “gunk” from inside the bird.

For the holiday I always have to make at least two boxes of stuffing. Stuffing seems to be the one thing that goes quickly, along with the turkey. Stuffing is also great as a leftover. I love adding some to my turkey sandwich the next day.

Did you know that there are many different stuffing recipes? You wouldn’t think there would be but I am always amazes when I hear about how others make their stuffing.

Swanson’s is having a Great Stuffing Debate where they want to know which way to make stuffing rules: Stuffing made inside the turkey or stuffing made outside the turkey.

To cast your vote for the Great Stuffing Debate visit www.TheGreatStuffingDebate.com. I have to laugh because the home page looks like a woman challenging her mother in law. You know mother in law’s always think they know best when it comes to cooking. Then again my mother in law was an amazing cook.

The site asks you different questions and then provides you with a stuffing recipe based upon your answer. I found some of the much delicious stuffing recipes on the site. The one I tried for Thanksgiving was the Quick & Easy stuffing found on the Great Stuffing Debate website.  Here is the recipe.

Quick & Easy Stuffing.

1 3/4 cups Swanson® Chicken Broth
(Regular, Natural Goodness™ or Certified Organic)
Generous dash ground black pepper
1 stalk celery, coarsely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
1 small onion, coarsely chopped (about 1/4 cup)
4 cups Pepperidge Farm® Herb Seasoned Stuffing

1. Heat the broth, black pepper, celery and onion in
a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes
or until the vegetables are tender. Remove the
saucepan from the heat.

2. Add the stuffing and mix lightly.

I neglected to take a picture of it before I served it (sorry, it was just total chaos in the kitchen). I did take a picture of some of the left over stuffing.

I have used Swanson Broth in the past to make rice, mashed potatoes, and of course soup. I never thought to add it to my stuffing. WOW! I really does liven up the flavor of the stuffing. I even used some Swanson chicken broth to mix up a box of pre-made stuffing too. I can’t believe how much better it tasted. Why I never thought to do that before I have no idea. Know that I know I’ll be sure to make stuffing using the Swanson’s broth too.

Check out this hysterical video about the Great Stuffing Debate. LOL! I wonder if this really happens in some families on Thanksgiving.

I know many of my readers still have plenty of holiday meals to prepare over the next few weeks that is why I want to encourage you to check out the Great Stuffing Debate website. Scroll through the yummy recipes and try out a couple of new recipes at your next dinner.

The dancing turkeys in the “Fun Stuff” section are so funny! My entire family got such a kick out of them.

The “Stuffing Spinner” is another fun idea. If you are unsure of which stuffing you want to try out you can spin the wheel and it will choose for you.

There are several recipes on that site I can’t wait to try like the Baked Apple Cranberry Stuffing, Cranberry & Pecan Stuffing and Dried Cherry Almond Stuffing. I was going to try the Baked Apple Cranberry Stuffing for Thanksgiving but I didn’t have the time. I am going to make it for Christmas dinner.

Be sure to check back every Monday for new debates too!

So… with the Great Stuffing Debate, answer me this question… Are you in favor of making the stuffing INSIDE the turkey or OUTSIDE of the turkey? Curious minds want to know?

  19. Add me to the southwest cornbread stuffing, we make a combo cornbread and meat stuffing each year, so I tend to gravitate to cornbread stuffing recipes because I use them as the base and add the extras on top of it! :-)
