HelixLife Products – Review

I think its pretty unfair of “life” to give adults acne. I make sure to wash my face twice a day. I use products that are suppose to keep your skin healthy, I drink plenty of water and I try and avoid greasy foods. Yet some how I still break out with pimples. At least once a week I get a pimple somewhere on my face. I’m going to be 43 this year. Will it ever stop?

My kids are at the age now where they are getting pimples. My daughter more so then my son. Probably because he’s still young.

I am blown away by all the acne products on the market today. I think there are just as many products for acne as there are for wrinkles. When I was at Walgreens yesterday that is all I saw for the most part – wrinkle creams and acne medications. All I wanted was a simple face wash.

My skin tends to be sensitive so I try and avoid harsh products. I also don’t want my kids using products that are nothing but a toxic mix of chemicals that you cannot pronounce. The more homeopathic and natural a product is the more likely I am to purchase it.

Recently I had the opportunity to try out a couple of products from HelixLife. One of the products was Helix Clear, and acne fighting skin serum.

From the start I was impressed wtih the product based upon the ingredients. Clear is made with Aloe, Vitamin B5, Rice Bran Oil, Goji extract, Green Tea extract and Acai extract. There are at least a dozen more ingredients, all of which I can pronounce for the most part.

What I love most about Clear is not so much the natural ingredients but the fact that its not harsh on your skin. I find that most acne treatments try out your skin. I understand that you need to dry out the pimple but I hate it when the area around the pimple gets dried out too.

Sometimes when I use medication to treat pimples I can actually feel my skin “burning” and “stinging”. Often treatments make my face red and blotchy. It almost makes me want to live with the pimple rather then deal with the effects of the treatments. I really don’t think its necessary for acne treatments to be so harsh. I especially don’t want my children using products like that.

Clear comes in a pump bottle and applies easily and smoothly to your skin. I find it soothing. It doesn’t feel like normal acne treatments. It feels more like a treatment you’d get at a spa.

So far the product hasn’t dried out my skin or caused any other problems like red or blotchy skin.

Clear seems to work best (for me) on areas where I can feel a break out about to happen or smaller pimples (surface bumps). On full blown pimples Clear didn’t seem to help clear up the pimple any faster then other acne treatments. The only difference is that the Clear didn’t dry out my skin like other products do.

Clear worked better on my skin and my son’s skin then it did my daughter. Clear did not help her at all. Again, the only difference is that Clear did not dry out her skin. It didn’t seem to rid her face of pimples anymore effectively then other treatments.

I guess the effectiveness of Clear depends on your skin and other factors. For some, like my daughter, Clear was not better or worst then other products she’s tried. For me and my son Clear seemed to work better, except on full blown pimples.

The fact that Clear is made with all natural ingredients, feels soothing on your skin and doesn’t dry it out makes it a much better choice then other over the counter acne treatments.

The only “con” I can think of is that its costly. A bottle of Helix Clear will cost you $69.00. This would be better for an adult with occasional acne issues rather then a teen who is dealing with acne on a daily basis because they might require more then one bottle to get through the month.

HelixLife also send me a package of their chocolate energy chews called Active Energy Burst Chews. Active chocolate chews are made with cocoa extract, non-fat milk and whey protein isolate which are all good for you. The product does contain ingredients that I can pronounce and that are recognizable, but I was a bit taken back when I saw that sugar and corn syrup were the first two ingredients listed. I would have thought the cocoa extract would have been.

Each chew has only 20 calories which is nice, especially when you are watching what you eat.

Taste wise I wasn’t overly keen on them the first few times I had them. Unlike Viactiv chocolate chews which taste like candy, the Active chews had a more bitter taste to them. After a few times the taste began to grow on me and they weren’t as bad anymore.

Active chocolate chews are suppose to give you a burst of energy, especially in the afternoon or before a work out. It suppose to replace caffeinated beverages (coffee, soda) and energy drinks like Red Bull and 5 Hour Energy.

From an energy standpoint the chews were a hit and miss. Some days I think they helped me a bit, especially around 2-3 PM when I start to feel really sluggish. Other times I didn’t notice anything after taking the chews. I don’t konw if there are other contributing factors that play on the effectiveness of the chews like how much sleep I had, what I ate, how active I was for most of the day. That all varies from day to day. I guess I should have kept a record of what I ate, drank and how much sleep I got to see if there were any factors that played against the Active chews.

Active chocolate chews are also suppose to provide you with mental clarity and focus as well as promotes a more positive outlook. I’m on the fence about this one. I don’t know if it really helped with any of these areas.

I will say that the Active chews did help curb cravings in between meals. Usually around 2-3 PM I am looking for a snack. I should be grabbing for an apple or baby carrots but often I am looking for something sweet. The Active chews helped curb my sweet tooth, thus preventing me from going after snacks that are not healthy for you. I would much rather worry about burning off a mere 20 calories compared to 200+ calories eating cookies or candy. I have six flights of steps that I have to go up and down several times a day. I’d burn off 20 calories just walking downstairs to get my mail.

Helix Active sells for $10.00 a bag. Currently the only flavor available is chocolate.

HelixLife carries other natural products including Glow, and anti-aging serum, Brilliant skin serum and Grow, a youth supplement plus other unique products. HelixLife offers products that range in price from $10 (chews) to $269.00. Most products are around $69.00.
