Lately I have had a “thing” for soup. I don’t know why. I have also been eating soup for breakfast instead of traditional breakfast foods. I guess I’m just bored of cereal or oatmeal every day. I love breakfasts like Eggs Benedict but I’m not about to go out of my way to make that in the morning, especially on a morning where my husband has to work and the kids are off to school. It’s too crazy here in the morning.
To me soup is an all around great meal option. They are quick to make, healthy, filling, quick to make and inexpensive. Where else can you find a meal for $2.00 or less? I spend more then that for a medium coffee at Dunkin Donuts. Soups also come in a variety of flavors so you won’t get bored of them too quickly.
I usually have many cans of soup available for my family. We each have our favorites so I try and buy an assortment of soups, especially when they are on sale.
We eat soup year round, even in the summer time. When the temperature outside is super hot the last thing I want to do is cook. We do not have a window in our kitchen so the whole kitchen feels like an oven, even if the oven is not on. Having soup and a sandwich or soup and salad for dinner in the summer is perfect.
As you can see one of the soups we frequently purchase is Progresso Soup. I love their clam chowder and wedding soup. Yummy!
Progresso soups are available in 40 flavors (not all flavors are available at all stores) and many of them have 100 calories or less. As you can see we usually opt for Progresso’s light soups. My favorites are the ones packed with pasta, beans, veggies and rice. Those are the most filling. I only go for cream based soups on occasion (like clam chowder).
Did you know that Progresso soups are a great source of fiber and each one has a full serving of vegetables. That is great! Especially for those of us who don’t always squeeze in our recommended daily servings of veggies each day.
Last year Progresso had a fun contest called Souper You. I even entered it. Sadly, I did not win. The contest was such a huge success that they are doing it again this year. From January 3rd through March 16th you can visit the Progresso on Facebook to enter for the chance to win a full makeover in New York City. I have always dreamed of having a makeover. I watch makeover shows on TV and I have always wished that it was me they were making over. It would be fun to look glamorous and sexy, even for a day.
Three lucky grand prize winners will be awarded a trip for two to New York City from May 20th-22nd. The prize includes round trip airfare, a two-night stay in an NYC hotel, a full makeover, a guided wardrobe shopping spree with a personal consultation at a New York City department store, and $1,000 in spending money. Nice!!! I can’t imagine having $1,000 to shop for a new wardrobe.
To enter, you´ll need to do the following:
- Go to Progresso on Facebook to learn more and enter the contest (http://www.Facebook.com/Progresso).
- Submit your essay (200 characters or less) telling Progresso why you love their soups that contain 100 calories or less, and why you deserve a chance to win a trip to NYC for a full fashion overhaul (there is no way I could do this in under 200 characters!).
- In addition, please submit a photo of yourself that visually reinforces the theme of your essay.
Once the 10 finalists are announced, you can visit Progresso on Facebook from March 30th through April 13th to vote for your favorite.

My favorite soup is their Light Italian-Style Meatball! I lost more than 60 pounds with that as a staple of my diet.
I didn’t even have to look – I love their Reduced Sodium chicken gumbo soup. I’m really sensitive to salt (too makes my tongue swell up so that I can’t talk) and their soup is perfect. Sometimes canned soups have way too much salt, but theirs doesn’t and it’s surprisingly spicy (as gumbo should be).
I LOVE soup! I eat it just about every day for lunch and doing so has helped me to lose 35 pounds (along with exercise and a doctor monitored weight loss plan). My favorite soup on the website is the lite Italian-style meatball!
