On Friday, February 27, 2011, all eyes will be on the 83rd Annual Academy Awards show to see who walks away with the Oscar for Best Picture.
The films nominated for Best Picture include:
- Black Swan
- The Fighter
- Inception
- The Kids Are All Right
- The King’s Speech
- 127 Hours
- The Social Network
- Toy Story 3
- True Grit
- Winter’s Bone
Have you seen any of these films? I have only seen Toy Story 3 and I LOVED it! Even though I heard great things about the other films like The Social Network, Black Swan and The King’s Speech, I would love for Toy Story 3 to win. It would be cool to see the first animated picture win an Oscar.
Going to the movies can be an expensive. It is not so bad when it’s just you and one other person attending a matinee, but when you end up taking the entire family it can really add up. Especially when you factor in things like popcorn and drinks. The overall cost is the reason why my family doesn’t go to the movies often. We rely on premium TV and movie rentals to see the movies that we are most interested in.
I remember long before DVDs and Blu-rays when there was only VHS tapes. It would take YEARS for movies to come out on VHS. These days movies are out on DVD or Blu-ray a month or so after they leave the movie theaters. I think that is great because it allows families to see relatively new movies within a reasonable time frame. It’s no fun discussing popular movies with friends and co-workers when they saw the movie many months before you did. At least now you can see a movie while its still a hot topic of conversation.
Did you know that many of the Oscar nominated films are already available for rental from redbox? I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed a few of the films in the redbox rental unit down the street at the grocery store.
Critics are already making their predictions on who will walk away with this most pretigious prize. You too can make your own predictions simply by visiting the movie awards game on Facebook.com/redbox. The Redbox Movie Awards Game empowers fans to make predictions and the chance at cinematic glory, which includes the fun “I Beat Richard Roeper” badge. That sounds like a lot of fun!
Thousands of redbox at-home film critics already weighed in on the nominees for the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes earlier this month, with hundreds correctly predicting more winners than famed Chicago Sun Times movie critic, Richard Roeper. And for the Oscars, consumers can also pit their picks against Entertainment Weekly Critic David Karger. I think it would be a lot of fun to predict the winner, especially if it beats out all of these respected movie critics.
Before casting your vote you can visit one of redbox’s 26,000+ locations to rent titles featuring nominated actors, actresses, directors and films including The Social Network, The Kids Are Alright, The Town, How to Train Your Dragon, Toy Story 3 and Inception. All for only $1 per night!
To get you even MORE excited about the Oscars redbox would like to give away to one very lucky She Scribes reader an amazing Oscar party package valued around $200.00! The prize package includes Oscar theme decorations including a “red carpet”, clapboard, pinata and a removable Hollywood sign and 10 FREE redbox movie rental coupons to keep or share with family and friends. I would love to see the new Wall Street movie! I loved the first one. Which movie will walk away with the Oscar for best picture is a little harder. I have seen a few of the movie and, while I loved Toy Story 3, I don’t think it will win the Oscar. Black Swan was horrifying to me, but sometimes that makes for critical acclaim. I really loved Inception, so of the movies I have seen I would say Inception should win. I have heard such rave reviews for The King’s Speech, though, so I am going to predict that The King’s Speech will be the actuall winner!
