One family activity that my family and I enjoy doing together during the warmer months is visit our local national parks. We don’t need to spend a small fortune on amusement rides or water parks. Sure, those places are a lot of fun, but for us having a picnic and strolling around a pristine lake is equally as fun.
Recently we were at a local national park taking a leisurely stroll around the lake (the path is 3.2 miles long!). Last summer we noticed that you could rent bicycles at the park. We thought it would be fun to ride bikes around the lake. Since both my kids need new bikes and my husband and I don’t have our own bikes, we were going to rent them. While we were at the park that day we stopped by the building where you could rent bikes. To our shock and dismay we saw a sign that said the bike rental shop would be closed for the 2011 season. CLOSED FOR THE SEASON? That is horrible!
Sadly, a lot of national parks are facing tremendous budget cuts which means park services will be greatly cut or reduce, park hours will be limited and tragically, some parks might even have to be closed down. National Parks are not exempt from budget cuts.
Our national parks are very important. Not only do they offer families fun outdoor activities but also they are also a source of education where children can learn about animals, plants, trees, the environment, ecology, geology and more.
From April 16, 2011 through April 24, 2011 our country celebrates National Park Week. Not only can your family receive FREE admission to all national parks during National Park Week, but people can also text BUNNY to 27722 to trigger a $1 donation from Energizer to the National Park Foundation. Energizer’s goal is to donate $400,000 to the National Park Foundation this spring and with your help, it can happen.
Available now in stores are specially-marked Energizer products that contain a special code. If you purchase three of the participating products you can go online to www.nowthatspositivenergy.com/blogs and redeem the codes for a $10 reward toward a national park adventure or elect for Energizer to donate the reward directly to the National Park Foundation.
If you prefer to help our national parks in a more “hands-on” way you can join a now that’s positivenergy™ national park volunteer event by visiting www.nowthatspositivenergy.com/blogs or facebook.com/energizerbunny and clicking on the Parks tab. While there, visitors also have the power to select one of the park recipients through an online vote, which runs from Monday, April 18, through Friday, May 13. Each park hosting an event will receive a grant from Energizer and a donation of responsible power solutions including solar panels, chargers, batteries, solar lights and other lighting products.
As you can see there are many ways you can help national parks across the country, either by purchasing select Energizer products or through volunteering. A few hours or your time and/or a small purchase (Energizer products) can make a big difference.
