Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure

I have to admit that I was not a big fan of the High School Musical movies. I sort of liked the one when they worked at the golf course (not sure which one that was). I thought the number they did on the baseball field was fun.

My kids loved the High School Musical movies, especially my daughter. Sadly they won’t acknowledge that fact now. It’s not “cool” to say you liked High School Musical these days, especially for a teenager. The funny thing is when High School Musical was popular all the teens who dare not mention the movies used to love them. Kids! LOL!

When I learned that one of the characters from High School Musical,Sharpay, was getting her own full length feature movie I was rather surprised. I think Ashley Tisdale seems like a nice young lady, and she can sing well. Her character in High School Musical, Sharpay, was one of those characters you loved to hate. She was so snooty and thought she was so wonderful. You couldn’t wait to see something not-so-wonderful happen to her. I couldn’t imagine what would become of her in a full length movie. And what kind of name is Sharpay? Her name reminds me of those dogs with all those wrinkles. Ha Ha.

Here is the trailer for the new movie, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, which is out now on DVD and Blu-ray.

Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventuresort of picks up where High School Musical left off. Sharpay is “discovered” by an agent who wants her to come to NYC to try out for a Broadway play. This is exactly the opportunity Sharpay has dreamed about, but her father has reservations about it. He doesn’t think she should go. Sharpay manages to convince her father to get her go by promising she’ll come home if she hasn’t made it “big” in one month’s time.

Once in New York, Sharpay is taken in by the lights and sounds of the Big Apple. She soon learns that her fabulous adventure is not going to be so fabulous after all. For example, the penthouse her father arranged for her doesn’t allow pets. Since Sharpay brought along her dog Boi she was booted out of the penthouse. To make matters worst Sharpay’s hopes and dreams were shot down when she found out that the producers wanted her dog Boi for the Broadway show, not her.

Competing for the lead in the Broadway play is another dog name Countess who has a not-so-nice owner name Roger Elliston (Bradley Steven Perry). Roger will stop at nothing to make sure that Boi does not get the part over Countess. Amber Adams (Cameron Goodman) is another not-so-nice person that Sharpay meets who goes out of her way to make Sharpay’s time in New York City miserable by employing her as her personal assistant and making her do menial tasks that are so “un-Sharpay-like”. Amber strings Sharpay along, convincing her that she can make sure that Boi gets the part over Countess.

There is one shining star that Sharpay meets while in the big city, Peyton Leverett (Austin Butler), who is the son of her parent’s friends. He helps Sharpay to find a place in the city while she is there, as well as provides her with support. Of course you know he turns into her love interest. I saw that one coming a mile away. Ha Ha.

Does Sharpay have what it takes to make it in the big city? Will Boi and Sharpay make it on Broadway before the 30 days is up? What happens between Sharpay and Peyton? To learn the answers pick up a copy of Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure which is now available where ever movies are sold.

Overall I thought it was a cute, family friendly movie. It falls along the same lines as High School Musical as far as the acting, characters and musical numbers. It was pretty predictable in spots, but over all I found it entertaining. There were a few times I even chuckled.

Even though my kids dare not admit it (for fear of sounding “uncool”) but I know they liked it too. If not, why would they have watched it again two days later? Humm… maybe I should embarrass them and put that in my Facebook status? Just kidding! :-)

There were some nice bonus features as well. I loved the bloopers. They are always funny. I wish they included more bloppers.

The “Evolution of Sharpay” was an interesting retrospective of the evolution of Sharpay’s character, from the first High School Musical to Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure.

Also featured in the bonus section is the Austin Cam, where Austin Butler (who played the part of Peyton) takes a video camera behind the scenes during the making of the movie. It’s always fun to see the behind the scenes action.

I’m giving the movie two thumbs up. It’s a fun movie that families can enjoy together. As far as watching it over and over again I think this would be more geared towards the younger crowd.

Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure is available on DVD and Blu-ray (combo packs) where ever movies are sold.

Here are some fun downloads you can print out in regards to the movie. The downloads include lots of fun tips and suggestions on how you and your dog can be fabulous and make it in the big city too. Just click on the image to bring up a larger image that you can print out.

Organica Pure Review & Giveaway

I am always on the look out for pure, organic, better-for-you-and-the-environment products for myself and my family. Sometimes I find a product that works great, other times I have experienced products that no matter how eco-friendly and healthy they are for you, they don’t work at all. I think that is because organic and eco-friendly products are still “new”. There has always been organic products but it hasn’t been until recently that many companies are switching to more organic ingredients. Its a “hit or miss” until they work things out.

About a month ago I was given the opportunity to try out some products from OrganicaPure. OrganicaPure utilizes the benefits of three all natural ingredients in their products; Honey, Aloe Vera and Cocoa. They harvest these special ingredients from natural resources that are known for their superior quality. They also make certain that their ingredients are obtained by ecological and socially responsible means. I can appreciate a company that places such high standards on their product ingredients AND cares about doing things that are socially responsible. By “socially responsible” I mean that the company feels obligated to act in such a way as to benefit society at large. They also avoid engaging in socially harmful acts. Another words, people and animals are not harmed or mistreated in the production of their products.

OrganicPure carries many bath and body products including shampoo, lotions, body wash and facial cleansers. Each product uses the elements of honey, aloe vera and cocoa to some degree.

OrganicPure sent me two products to try out for this review. They sent me a bottle of Cocoa and Honey Body Lotion and a bottle of Aloe and Honey Organic Shampoo.

The OrganicaPure Body Lotion was something I was looking forward to trying out. When I think “cocoa” I think “chocolate”. Therefore I was expecting chocolate scented body lotion. While it does have a hint of a chocolate scent to it, the scent more so reminds me of Sweetarts. That is certainly not a bad thing. I guess you can say it smells like a chocolate Sweetart, if there was such a thing.

The lotion goes on smoothly and dries relatively quickly. It leaves your skin nice and soft with a bit of a glossy/shiny sheen to it. The scent does stay with you a long time too, although the scent does change as time goes on. For the most part its a pleasant scent. To be honest I don’t like the scent it leaves after you wash your hands. I have used this lotion on my arms, legs and hands. When I wash my hands some of the scent still remains even after using soap and hot water. The scent that remains is not as nice as the original scent. It’s not terrible, it’s just not as enjoyable as the scent prior to hand washing. I don’t know if its the lotion its self or it has something to do with the hand soap, or a combination of the two.

A little bit of the lotion goes a long way too, so you should be able to get a lot of use out of the bottle. The bottle also has a pump feature so you only need to pump out as much as you need with no waste. There is nothing worst then squeezing out too much from those squeeze tubes.

OrganicaPure also sent me a bottle of their Aloe and Honey Organic Shampoo. I was a bit weary about this product. I have tried organic and “all-natural” shampoos in the past and I wasn’t overly pleased with how they made my hair feel. I also felt that some of those shampoos didn’t do a good job cleaning my hair and scalp either. With that in mind I was hesitant to use the shampoo. For the sake of the review I knew I had to. Oh my! The shampoo blew me away! I LOVE this shampoo!

The OrganicaPure Aloe and Honey Organic Shampoo is a green gel that you pump from the bottle. It seemed a bit odd putting a gel shampoo in my hair but WOW! Does this stuff work GREAT! I LOVE this shampoo!

I suffer from Eczema breakouts, both on my face and my scalp. When there are no flare ups I use regular shampoos. When the Eczema is present I use Head and Shoulders to soothe my scalp and to prevent the Eczema from getting too dry and flaky, which gives the appearance of dandruff. I do have an itty bitty bottle of medicated shampoo for my Eczema but at $40 a bottle I use it VERY sparingly and I’ll only use it if the flare up gets painfully bad.

I LOVE they way the OrganicaPure shampoo feels on my scalp. It feels as though its quenching it with moisture, for lack of a better description. I think I can hear my scalp going “Ahhhh….” in relief whenever I wash my hair. LOL!

The shampoo lathers up and cleans your hair very well. It also rinses out well too. There is no left over residue. I love the way my hair looks and feels after I use it. I have used it every day for a month (a little bit goes a long way), but sadly I am out of it now. Sigh… The ONLY “con” to the shampoo is the price. Its $24 a bottle and the bottle will last about a month if you wash your hair every other day like I do (I have thick, course, long hair – I can’t wash it every day). When our budget only allows us to buy the .99 cent bottles of Sauve shampoo, there is no way I can justify spending $24 on the OrganicaPure shampoo, no matter how much I love it and how wonderful it makes my hair look and feel. :-( You also have to take shipping charges into account too.

Overall I am very pleased with the OrganicaPure products I was sent to review. The shampoo, by far, is my favorite product. I love it!

What to do with a sad little boy?

Many of my regular readers might recall that I have an 11 year old son. He was diagnosed with Aspergers, which is a form of Autism, but we’ve never been able to get that confirmed 100%. Other doctors and so-called specialists have come up with their own ideas, from ADHD to Anxiety and several things in between. When he was younger I could clearly see signs of Aspergers. The older he gets the less I see those “signs”. In my heart I feel he’s just a sad little boy, looking for his niche in life and hoping to make a friend or two.

Our son struggles at school. He started school a year before he should have. He was born prematurely and has a late birthday. Technically he should be in 5th grade right now, not 6th. We was almost left back in first grade but the school opted not to. Since then it’s been a struggle. I have the school on speed dial and know his teacher’s extensions by heart. I even have a few of their e-mail addresses. Needless to say I am well known at school. I’m always there trying to get him help, which sadly the school cannot afford due to budget cuts. Currently our son is in two different after school math “help” classes. They are large classes with around 25-30 students in each class. He was receiving math help last year in a small class (only 6 students). His mathgrade jumped 18 points in one quarter! That is because he was getting more one-on-one time. With the new math classes it’s impossible.

His school work struggles really effect his confidence and self-esteem (both of which he has NONE of). He also doesn’t have any friends. He has a few kids at school he’ll talk to but I wouldn’t go so far as call them “friends”. Oddly enough in the lunch room he always sits with the Spanish speaking boys, which means he cannot really hold much of a conversion with them. I think its just his way of “hiding away”.

He’s a good kid and he IS smart. He just doesn’t apply himself with his school work. He also has a huge heart.

On Easter the kids in our family (cousins) went on an Easter Egg hunt. There was money and/or candy in the eggs. My daughter found the egg with the $20 bill (“grand prize”) and my niece walked away with $30. My son didn’t find any eggs with money in them. My niece was kind enough to give my son $5.00 from the money she found, which was very nice of her.

A few days ago I was at the mall with my kids. My daughter was spending her dog walking money but she didn’t have enough to cover what she wanted to buy (she was $3.50 short). My son offered his money to pay for the money she was short. That was nice of him, however I couldn’t let him do that so I paid the difference.

You’ll never guess what he did with his $5.00. He donated it to a charity to help out the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. He could have used the money to buy songs from iTunes or something else. Instead he donated every penny to charity.

I know he’s desperately trying to find his place in this world. We try and help him any way we can, but he doesn’t really talk to us much about what he’s REALLY feeling, so it’s not always easy to know what to do.

My husband might have a job as the official blogger for a local minor league baseball team. Its an unpaid position but I’m sure it will have its perks. My husband is super excited about it. He also blogs for a NFL website.

Our son knows nothing about baseball. He’s lucky if he can even name a baseball player. But that doesn’t stop him. He wants to write for the baseball team too! He wants me to build him a blog (either on WordPress or Blogger) and he wants his own .com (domain name). He wants to use his website to write about the baseball team just like my husband, even though he doesn’t know the first thing about baseball. Not only that there is no way the management would go for that. He MIGHT be able to tag along with my husband from time to time, but not in an official capacity.

He’s BEGGING me to get him a site and BEGGING my husband to ask the team’s management if he could write for them too. It’s breaking my heart! I now the management would not go for that. I told my husband we’ll have to “fluff” the truth some how so as not to crush his spirits. I can set him up with a blog to allow him to write and beg family and friends to comment on his posts. I’m HOPING that might help.

I think what he really wants (and needs) is to feel important. I think in his mind if he writes about the baseball team people will flock to his site and interact with him and look at him as an “authority” about everything team related. I would love for that to happen but the mere fact that he knows NOTHING about baseball is going to make this hard to pull off.

I don’t know what to do. He’s so sad. I know he feels lost and he wants to find his place in this world. I just don’t know how to help him. Our daughter is the polar opposite and knows exactly what she wants out of life. She’s also got a lot of friends and does well in school. My kids are nothing alike. Although I must say my son is more responsible then our daughter is, and she’s going to be 14 soon.

I think if he has a blog it might help him to feel better about himself.

Does anyone have a child who has a blog? If so, has the experience been good or bad? Would you recommend it? Obviously I would have total control over it and his name/identity would never be known.

I just want him to be happy and have confidence and self esteem. I just have no clue how to do that. We’ve tried getting him to join groups and clubs, but that didn’t work. We’ve tried Karate, T-ball, Soccer, Boy Scouts… and so on. He’s just not into any of these things. He rather come home from school and hide away in the corner of his room playing with his toys. He used to have a goldfish that he referred to as his “best friend”. Seriously – it breaks my heart!!!!

If this was YOUR child, how would you handle all of this? What would you do? I’m open to ideas and suggestions.

Thanks for reading this far and letting me ramble about this. I appreciate that a lot.

Love in Any Language from Western Union ($50 Giveaway – Three Winners)

Jeg elsker dig, Je t’aime, Ich liebe dich, Ti amo… no matter what language you speak the words “I love you” always means the same thing.

No matter where you live in the world, the language of love is spoken. Whether its the love between two people, a mother and her child, siblings or best friends, mostly everyone has been touched by love in some capacity.

Western Union understands this very special language of love. That is why they created a special campaign called Love in Any Language. This campaign was designed to honor mothers, fathers, family, friends and loved ones who have all provided so much throughout the years. This campaign comes at a perfect time with Mother’s Day just around the corner. After all, mom is one of those special people in your life who provides you with so much, most especially unconditional love.

A really unique thing about this campaign is that it utilizes music, which is universally used to express love towards others in any language. Recently Western Union had a contest where people could upload original music videos dedicated to their mother, father, friends, family and loved ones. The campaign was designed to encourage consumers to “sing it, shout it, send it” and send the gift of cash. Western Union was very excited about this campaign because it focused on promoting expressions of love to the people who care about us the most.

Many people had the opportunity to be creative and resourceful while using their talents, expressing their love through music. People came up with original songs and lyrics, which they shared with the world. At this moment in time I do not know who the winner was, but they were suppose to be chosen on April 27, 2011. You can learn more about the campaign here, http://pages.westernunion.com/loveinanylanguage.

With Mother’s Day almost here, how will you express your love and appreciation? It’s not easy to find the “perfect” gift for Mother’s Day. Did you know that according to a recent survey by Western Union with Wakefield Research, 62% of Americans reported that their top gripe for getting a gift for mom was that they didn’t know what she wants. Another 43% said they couldn’t really afford what they really wanted to purchase.

Sometimes the most traditional Mother’s Day gift falls short too.  The same survey found that 74% of adults admit their mother would rather receive $50 in cash rather then $50 in flowers. I tend to agree with that. Although I DO love flowers, I would rather have a plant because it lasts longer. Cash is always nice to have too.

I like getting gift cards because I’m less likely to use them on frivolous things, like a cup of coffee. When I have a gift card I tend to hold on to it until I come across something that I truly want, or need.

Western Union has an option to purchase a gift card which includes a greeting card with a personalized message AND you can upload a personalized message on the telephone which the recipient will hear when they call in to activate the card. I think that is a pretty cool feature.

The gift cards are available in denominations ranging from $5.00 to $100.00. The gift cards from Western Union are Visa gift cards so they can be used where ever Visa is accepted. Standard first class shipping is free. You can also have the card shipping 2-day express for a $9.99 shipping fee, or overnight for $12.99.

To learn more about Western Unions gift cards, or to find  a location near you, please visit their official site at www.WesternUnion.com.

Western Union would like YOU to express your love and appreciation for your mom, grandmother, aunt or spouse this Mother’s Day by offering THREE lucky winners a $50.00 Western Union gift card (one $50 per winner). You can give the gift card as a Mother’s Day gift to allow the recipient to purchase what they really want or need. Thank you Western Union!

To enter please comment on who the gift card is for and what do you think they would use it for. It’s OK to say its for you too. If you are keeping the card for yourself feel free to let me know what you think you might use it for.

Red Envelope Mother’s Day Giveaway ($50)

There is still time to send your mom a lovely Mother’s Day gift, in the event you do not live local to her.

I know how important it is to find the “perfect” gift for mom on Mother’s Day. After all, she is the woman who carried you for nine months (give or take), gave birthday to you, fed you, cared for you and was always there for you (well… most moms anyway). That is why its important to find a gift that truly expresses your love and appreciation for this special woman. For me, my “mom” was my paternal grandmother. She might not have given birth to me but she raised me and cared for me my entire life until I got married and moved away. It was always super important to me to find her the “perfect” gift whenever I bought her something for Mother’s Day, her birthday and Christmas.

Red Envelope has a lovely assortment of gift that anyone would be proud to give to their mother on Mother’s Day. Red Envelope makes it easy to send Mothers Day gifts across the country.

I adore the Mother’s Day jewelry that is available on the Red Envelope website.

Check out this really cool birthstone necklace. You can have a child’s birthstone embedded into the “charm” and their name engraved on one side and birth date on the other. This would look awesome with several children. Their birthstones would make the necklace very colorful, almost like a rainbow. This would be a perfect gift for a grandmother too. You could include a charm for each of the grandchildren.

Sometimes mom loves to indulge in sweet treats on her special day. If your mom likes gourmet delights then you are sure to find something to satisfy her sweet tooth on the Red Envelope website. Checkout these mouth watering gift options.

Red Envelope has a HUGE assortment of gourmet treats. From cookies to chocolate covered strawberries and from fresh fruit to cakes, there is something available to suit any one’s taste.

If your mom loves flowers, plants or gardening, then Red Envelope has you covered for those kinds of gifts too.

I LOVE the “Egglings” (plants inside of egg shells). They are not real egg shells (they are made of ceramic). They come with three ready-to-sprout seeds in wild strawberry, petunia and mint. They also come with organic soil. What a cute idea! This would have made a fun Easter gift too.

I have a Bonsai tree, which I received last year and is still going strong. It’s an actual tree so it should last a very long time as long as its well cared for.

Does your mom need a little “R&R” (rest and relaxation)? It’s safe to assume that most moms could use some pampering. Red Envelope has plenty of gifts that will give mom the pampering she deserves, from soft and comfy robes to mediation accessories and plenty of spa quality bath and body products.

For moms who would rather wine, dine and entertain, Red Envelope has gifts for them too!

I adore the little floral measuring cups!

My personal favorite is the Hand in Hand Family Frame. I have this frame set and I LVE IT! The Hand in Hand Family Frame set is available in adult male, adult female, boy and girl. You can purchase any combination of these frames. If you have multiple children, or just one or if your family consists of a mom and dad, two dads or two moms, you can mix and match to best suit your family.

Each photo frame has a “cut out” where the face goes for you to insert a photo of the face of the person it is suppose to represent. In my case the adult female as my face picture in it. The adult male has my husband. The boy and girl feature the faces of my son and daughter.

Its a little tricky to find photos that fit perfectly. You’ll have to tweak them a bit but you can do it. If possible have your family pose for new pictures and have them face the camera so you get the perfect shot. The great thing about the frames is that you can change the photos as your child/children grow up and change.

Each frame has magnets on it’s hands so that it can “connect” with another frame (as if they are holding hands). They are so cute!

Here is a photo of mine. I’m sorry for the poor photo quality.

You can even personalized each frame with the dry erase marker that is included. I opted not to personalize my frames.

This would make a cute gift for grandma too! You can get a frame for each of the grandchildren and an adult female frame to represent grandma. I know she would love it!

No matter what your mom, grandmother, spouse, aunt or significant other is into, Red Envelope is sure to have a special gift for them.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas from Things Remembered (Giveaway)

Have you found the perfect gift for your mom yet? I wish my mom and mother in law were still around because I used to love to spoil them on their special day. Sigh…

I am not sure what my husband and kids have in mind. I know my husband mentioned that he still has to order my combination Mother’s Day/Birthday gift. Instead of two small gifts I usually get one big gift on Mother’s Day since my birthday is at the end of May.

Things Remembered is always a great choice for ideal gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and just about any holiday or occasion. What I love about Things Remembered is that they are always adding new gift ideas so there are always new products to choose from. I also love that their products are personalized with names, dates and/or your own personal message, making the gifts even more special. Gifts from Things Remembered are meant to be cherished for a life time. Many gifts can even be passed down to future generations.

Here are a few great gift suggestions for Mother’s Day.

USB Photo Key Chain – This is a fun idea. A photo key chain can help mom keep a photos of the kids and her important work documents together in one place. The key chain is Silver plated and can hold a 1.1” x .8” picture. It also has a hidden 2 gig USB drive. It doesn’t sound big but I have a 2 gig flash drive and I find that it holds a lot. Both the front and interior portion of the key chain can be engraved with a special message just for mom.

Fashion Birthstone Jewelry – Let’s face it. What lady doesn’t appreciate lovely jewelry? I’m sure any mom would love Fashion Birthstone Necklace or a Bracelet, both intricately crafted with glimmering woven silver finished links. You can choose a birthstone for a newborn, child or even mom’s birth stone. You can even remind her of how special she is by having your special message engraved on them.

Leaves & Vines Perfume Atomizer – This lovely perfume atomizer perfectly fits miniature perfume samples that typically get in the bottom of mom’s purse. This beautiful and stylish accessory features debossed leaves and hand-set crystals. There is even a special place for your engraved message to tell mom how beautiful she is.

Mother Water Globe – I love water globes. We have a rather large collection of them. Your mom will cherish this special water globe that has been handcrafted with intricate detail. It also plays music (Beethoven’s Fur Elise). Have this engrave it with lyrics of your own for a gift that will be cherished for years to come.

Mom Float Frame – This beautiful picture frame is ideal for both home or office. Be sure to include mom’s favorite 4″ x 6″ photo of the kids or a fun vacation memory. Add her name and a few heartfelt words to the engraving plate to make this gift speak for you each time it’s admired.

I have the Mom Float Frame and I love it. It features butterflies which I am very found of. I also love how its set up to make the photos appear like they are just floating above the base of the frame. Mine is engraved with both of my children’s names on it.  The only bad thing is that I don’t have a 4″ x 6″ photo to put into it – yet. I have a teen and ‘tween and it’s hard to get the two of them together in one place to pose for a picture. My teen daughter especially doesn’t want to have her picture taken with her “bratty” younger brother. I do have one picture I would LOVE to put in this frame but it’s not 4″ x 6″. Its a picture I took not too long ago on my digital camera. Unfortunately I cropped the original and “tweaked” it, then deleted the original. The only way to make the photo fit the frame is if i add more things to the sides of it to make it 6″. I don’t think that would look right so I haven’t printed it out yet. For now I’m waiting for an ideal moment when I can get both of my kids together in the same photo.

For now the lovely frame sits on top of my desk. Even without a photo its really nice to look at. You don’t really see the glass. You just see the sliver plated “Mom” and butterflies, plus my kid’s names which are engraved on it. With or without a photo I truly adore this photo frame.

Here is my frame. I’m sorry the photo is rather dark. I also “fuzzed” out the names of my children for their protection.

It’s lovely! I love it. If my mom and/or mother in law were still alive I would love to get them a frame like this.
