Lysol’s “Ask the Expert” ($50 Giveaway)

Do you have seasonal allergies? If so, chances are you are sniffing up a storm these days. The tree pollen is especially bad right now (at least where we live in New York). Both of my children are allergic to tree pollen, although my daughter is not as bad as my son is. My son has it really bad this year, so much so his eyes have actually swollen shut from all the rubbing he’s been doing. We tell him not to rub his eyes but it’s hard for him not to because they are very itchy.

I have been giving both of my children their allergy medicine but it hasn’t really helped my son out. I’ve even switched medications with no luck.

Most people know if you are allergic to something you need to avoid it at all costs. Take for example dairy allergies. If you are allergic to dairy you are certainly not going to down a tall glass of cold milk with your cookies (mmm…that does sounds good). Or if you are allergic to cats you certainly wouldn’t go adopt a litter of kittens.

Sometimes it’s difficult to avoid allergens, especially when you are allergic to tree pollen and other things that are floating around in the air. No matter what your allergy triggers are, the best strategy for preventing symptoms is to try to avoid exposure to the allergens themselves.

There are several general steps you can take at home to help reduce allergens overall. Did you know that Lysol has a free online community (Lysol.com)  where you can get awesome tips and advice from other community members and health experts. In fact, on Thursday, May 19 at 3pm EST, Dr. Laura Jana (nationally acclaimed pediatrician and mother of 3) will be answering your Fighting Allergens at Home questions.

I will set up the video chat here on my blog, She Scribes, on May 19, 2011. I will include the video link in this post, in case you want to bookmark it. I’ll also repost the link on May 19th if you want to check back then.

If you can’t make the video chat, you can still ask questions by going to the Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/Lysol) and leaving your questions in advance. Then tune in and watch Dr. Jana answer your questions. Or you can visit the Lysol Facebook page to share your own tips and learn what works for others.

Lysol would also like to give a lucky reader a $50 American Express (AMEX) gift card just for participating. Thank you Lysol.

To enter please visit either the Lysol website (www.Lysol.com) ortheir Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/Lysol) and post your question about Allergies and Allergens for Dr. Jana. Then come back here and comment with where you posted the question (website or Facebook) and what your question was so that I can verify the information.

For extra entries you can do any or all of the following, but the initial entry must be fulfilled or the extra entries will not qualify. Extra entries are optional. Please leave a separate comment for each that you have done.

I posted on their website (when I went to FB it took me to the website). My questions was about pets and allergies…I asked any suggestions for living happily with our small family pet when she brings in pollen (we live in a high pollen area) and it’s been tough on us lately. We realize baths help with the dog but are unable to do this everyday. Any suggestions? My screen name is kelley wood. Thanks!
