This time of year many people are moving and relocating around the country for personal and business reasons. Now is a great time because most children are out of school and it’s the perfect time to move and get settled in before the new school season starts up again.
Personally I have never really moved, per say. I had an apartment for the summer back in 95′. I just took a few personal belongings with me (the apartment was furnished). I don’t really call that moving. When I moved into our current home with my husband back in 97′ I also only brought personal items with me since we were recently married and didn’t even own a piece of furniture. My husband on the other hand has moved many times as a child so he was used to it.
A few years ago we came really close to transferring to the Charlotte, NC area. I never realized until then just how crazy and stressful relocating can be. There was so much to take into consideration from finding the best school district, to figuring out utility companies, the cable company, phone service and more. Back then we had a relocating specialist working with us so that was a huge relief. Sadly the transferred never happened and to this day I am devastated by it. To think, we could be living in a 3-4 bedroom home in the Charlotte area right now instead of our “shoe box” size condo here in NY. Sigh…
My grandfather is in the process of moving right now. He’s moving out of his house into another house that he’s renting upstate closer to my sister. My brother and sister felt that he needed to live in a home with no stairs (his house has a lot of stairs). WOW! I cannot see how they are going to move three levels of “stuff”, not including the stuff in the garage and attic, into a tiny two bedroom house. My grandfather has lived in his house since 1963. Needless to say he has A LOT of stuff. I’d have to say 90% of it he doesn’t need and will never use either. We are not the ones moving yet the whole idea of my grandfather moving all his stuff into another house is stressing ME out. LOL!
There is so much to take into consideration when you are moving. Anything that can simplify the process is a great relief. There is a service that you can easily make arrangements for your phone, cable and Internet to be hooked up so you don’t have to worry about making those arrangements after you move into your new home. I love that idea! I’m sure when you are moving you’ll need your phone and Internet to make contact with friends and family. Plus after a long day of moving I’m sure you and your kids would love to kick back and relax with some TV or a good movie. It would really stink if you DIDN’T have phone, Internet or cable service all ready to go in your new home when you needed it.

We have moved a few times and I can honestly say there is nothing I hate worse! One thing I did learn is to clean out while packing. Things that have been packed away for some time are things you don’t need to hang on to. One other thing is to box up one room at a time and label those boxes as to the room they are in so they will go to the same room in the move … ie: child’s bedroom to child’s bedroom, bathroom to bathroom, etc…

Always start boxing up as early as possible.
Best moving tip: Label your boxes and only pack items that fit with that room ie. living room, kitchen, bedroom etc.
