Step It Up For Your School & Converse Sneakers Giveaway!

Have you started back-to-school shopping yet? We haven’t “officially” started yet, but we have been picking up a few supplies here and there to help alleviate the last minute rush to get everything on our list.

Buying school supplies is usually pretty easy (although the kids do have their ideas about what they like/don’t like). When it comes to buying clothing – oh my! That is the most challenging part of back to school shopping.

Our daughter has slowed down and has barely grown the past two years. That means we are fortunate that her clothes tend to fit her year after year. She also wears the same size shoe as me. Our son on the other hand is still growing and his foot looks like it’s going to be as big as my husband’s very soon, and he’s not yet 12 years old.

I’ll be glad when both kid’s feet stop growing. That way spending a small fortune on a quality pair of shoes will be so well worth it. It irks me to spend a lot of $$$ on a pair of shoes only to have them out grow them in a few months.

One of my kid’s favorite brands are Converse sneakers. I remember them when I was growing up. All I wanted was a pair of Converse sneakers too but my mom would never agree to let me get a pair. Mom thought regular “tennis shoes” were just as good. When she finally let me get a pair of Converse high top sneakers I felt like the King (or shall I say Queen) of the world! I loved the sneaker. Not only were they comfortable they were also so “hip” and “trendy” at that time. I felt so cool wearing them.

Famous Footwear recently launched a Facebook contest called “Step It Up For Your School”. This is a national contest to help inspire students  to advocate for their high school and to help find ways to improve it. With so many budget cuts happening across the country so many schools are suffering. Many schools are in dire need of repairs, supplies, and other items that have been grossly effected by budget cuts.

Now students can help their schools by nominating them to win the Step It Up For Your School contest. Entrants have a chance to win up to $100,000 prize, which would be up to $75,000 to transform their high school and up to a $25,000 cash prize for the winning nominator to keep. Imagine that. $25,000 for the student who nominated the school and $75,000 for the school. That $75,000 could help buy a lot of much needed supplies, books, repairs and more.

There is no purchase necessary and the contest (which started on July 31, 2011) ends on September 24, 2011 at 11:59 PM EST. Entrants much submit an essay, 250 words or less in length. The contest is also only open to public schools that house grades 9-12 in the United States.

If you do not have a child or grandchild in an eligible school please consider entering a school in your area that could really use the prize. You could also consider entering a school in an area recently effected by the freakish weather we have been having, like a school in the Joplin, MO. area (for example).

This giveaway is open to US residents only and will end on August 15, 2011 at 11:59 PM (EST). The winner will be chosen at random using a random number generator from all eligible entries. The winner will be notified via e-mail and will have three days to reply with a name, address (no PO Box), phone number (shipping purposes only), sneaker choice and size. Failure to do so will result in a new winner will be chosen in their place.
