I have to admit that I have never watched and episode of Shaun the Sheep before. I know the show is created by the Oscar winning creator of Wallace and Gromit, but I’ve never had the opportunity to watch the show before.
I received a copy of the Shaun the Sheep holiday DVD caled Shaun the Sheep: We Wish Ewe a Merry Christmas. I love all kinds of holiday shows and movies so I was excited to check it out.
Shaun of the Sheep: We Wish Ewe a Merry Christmas is from Lionsgate and Hit Entertainment. It features 7 short clips including…
– We Wish Ewe a Merry Christmas – The farm animals want to do something special for the Farmer for Christmas. This is a very sweet episode. I love how the animals wanted to make the Farmer have a wonderful holiday.
– Snowed In – Everyone is snowed in. While the farm animals enjoy winter activities (like a big snow ball fight), Farmer has a brilliant idea to ski off the roof of his house.
– Fireside Favorite – Bitzer the dog is ill so Farmer gives him a place in front of the fireplace to keep him warm. Pidsley the cat is not amused and does everything he can to get rid of Bitzer.
– An Ill Wind – Farmer’s electric bill is very high so he gets the idea of building his own wind powered generator. The sheep find the generator entertaining and accidentally find that they are creating problems for Farmer.
– Bitzer’s New Hat – Bitzer gets a new hat from Farmer that he doesn’t like (the farm animals make fun of him). The sheep do what they can to find him a hat he’s happy with. Meanwhile Shaun tries to retrieve Bitzer’s beloved hat.
– Chip off the Old Block – Baby sheep’s teddy bear gets stuck under a huge chunk of rock that the Farmer is using to chip into a statue. The sheep need to get him out of the picture so they can rescue baby’s teddy bear. I think the baby’s name is Timmy.
– Shirley Whirley – Shirley is a very large sheep who has a hard time getting around. Shaun and his friends come up with a creative way to help her move around better, that is until the plan backfires. Shirley sounds like a male if you ask me. 🙂
There is no talking in any of the episodes. They characters make sounds and grunts. Even the Farmer doesn’t speak. He grumbles a lot.
I realize this is a “kiddie” program but I found it to be hysterical. Even my husband was laughing. He didn’t want to watch it at first because he thought it was going to be something only a 5 year old could appreciate. The fact is the we (my husband and I) laughed throughout. This is certainly NOT a “kid” show. This show is great for adults too. Some of the humor I think a child wouldn’t understand. It is something only a grown up would “get”.
I LOVE the baby sheep (very cute!) and the pigs are really funny (they sound like gorillas when they grunt).
The whole DVD lasts for only around 45 minutes. I would have loved to have seen a few more episodes.
Even though this is marketed as a holiday DVD you can enjoy it year round. Only one clip is holiday related. Two of the clips feature cold (Winter) weather.Â
All of the characters are very likable. It’s just a super cute show.
There is two bonus features including a game where you can shear a sheep (I wasn’t impressed – kind of silly) and a super adorable video called Timmy’s Tune #1. When the little critters dance it’s really cute.
