Ornaments with Love – Personalized and Affordable Gift Ideas

It’s a family tradition to get a new ornament for our Christmas tree every year. It all started many years ago when I was a young girl. My sister was the one who assembled the Christmas tree and decorated it. I was not allowed to hang any ornaments because it was more so my sister’s tree than my tree.

My mom felt bad about that so she took me to the Christmas tree lot and let me pick out a small, real tree for our downstairs playroom (where I spent most of my time). That was “my” tree that I was allowed to decorate. Sadly I didn’t have many ornaments for the tree, only a few small ones that my sister didn’t use for our “main” tree that was upstairs in the formal living room.

That year my mom bought me a personalized ornament that I could hang up on “my” tree. It had my name and the date on it. The following year my mom let me get a tree for the playroom to decorate and another personalized ornament. Over the next several years I received a new ornament every year. Mom said by the time I was got married and/or moved out on my own I’d have my own collection or ornaments to decorate my Christmas tree so that my tree would not be bare.

Even after I got married, moved away and started my own family my mom would continue to give us new ornaments every year. My husband and I usually received a couples ornament where as my kids recieved their own personalized ornaments. My husband and I also purchase the kids a new ornament each year. When our kids are grown on off on their own they can take their ornaments with them and continue the tradition with their children. I’m sure my husband I will also continue to give our kids ornaments each year, as well as our grandchildren.

Personalized ornaments are an affordable and special gift that you can give to someone you love. Its something that they can cherish for the rest of their lives and look upon with fond memories of the day you gave it to them.

Pretty much every ornament on our tree i can tell you the story of how I acquired it and who gave it to me. My memory isn’t as good as it used to be, but the important details remain.

For example, this dog ornament was given to me by my first grade teacher Ms. Bogart. I’m 43 so you can tell I’ve had it a long time.

This deer ornament was given to me by my Uncle Richard. We were at some holiday store in Pennsylvania. He knew my mom bought me a new ornament every year and he wanted to do something nice for me too so he bought this ornament for me. I must have been about 10 years old at the time, give or take.

The ornaments my fade, chip or break but the memories are always going to be there.

If you are looking to start your own special holiday tradition with family and friends, why not consider the gift of an ornament?

Ornaments with Love (www.OrnamentswithLove.com) is an online ornament store that carries a wide variety of ornaments. You can easily find a special ornament for anyone on your holiday shopping list.

Ornaments with Love carries ornaments for teens, grandparents, children, pets, friends and many themes including professions, sports, house and home, military, sports teams, religious, travel and so much more. Best of all the ornaments can be personalized with names and dates.

Here are a few examples of the delightful ornaments found at Ornaments with Love.

What I love most about these ornaments, aside from the HUGE variety they have available, is that they are very affordable. Most ornaments are in the $10 – $15 range making them ideal even as hostess gifts, stocking stuffers or “Secret Santa” presents.

What a wonderful way to mark a special occasion or event in someone’s life. Perhaps you, a friend or family member is expecting their first child. Give them a personalized ornament of an expectant parent. Then next year you can give the little bundle of joy their own “First Christmas” ornament. Then continue the tradition with a new ornament each year.

A personalized ornament also shows that you put a lot of thought into the gift. Finding the perfect ornament then having it customized for the recipient shows that you put your heart into the gift and just didn’t grab them any other thing you found on a store shelf.

We have two ornaments from Ornaments with Love. One we received last year and one this year.

Last year I had a special ornament created for my family including our names (well, I’m “Mom” and hubby is “Dad”). I colored out my kid’s names for their privacy.

It’s a nice size ornament too. It has our names on each of the stockings and our family name at the bottom. One of the candles on the mantle has the date 2010 on it so that we know when we received the ornament. It’s so cute and colorful too! Check out all the great detail on the ornamnet from the yellow and orange “flames” on the candles to the berries on the wreath.

This year I had another ornament made up. This time I had one made up for the four legged members of the family.

Once again I had our last name colored in so to protect our privacy.

All of our cats have a stocking starting with our eldest cat, Velcro, on the left to one of the younest, Anakin, on the right.

Our dog Espn (pronounced Es-pin) is mostly white with black dots. I thought the white dog was fitting. It’s hard to tell from the photo but he has a bone in his mouth.

Bella, our youngest (6-months old) is black and white. I had them use a black kitten for her. Her basket has her name on it.

The fire in the fireplace also has this year on it.

Here is another photo of the ornmament. Bella’s name is covered up from the camera’s flash.

We will always remember that in 2011 we had all six of our beloved pets. Ten, twenty or even thirty years from now if we still have this ornament we can fondly look back on our precious pets and recall the many Christmases we shared with them.

Ornaments with Love ornaments are breakable, but, they are really well made that it would take a serious fall for it to break or chip. They have glossy coating on them which helps to protect them.

I adore our personalized ornments from Ornaments with Love and I know that each year I will go back to the site to get more fun ornaments for our family. I especially love the family ones. They have family ornaments that range from three family members to MANY family members. These are great for grandparents too.

Bob Evan’s Mashed Potatoes – Just Like Mom Used to Make

I’m not a lazy person. I mean I CAN be lazy, but I’m not always lazy. It just depends on the situation. For example, when it comes to cleaning I’m lazy, simply because I truly hate to clean.

I try and cook meals I serve my family from scratch whenever possible. Sometimes lack of time or lack of cooking skills prevents me from making dishes I really want to make. For example, carrots and turnips. My mom used to make the most amazing carrots and turnips. I REALLY want to enjoy that side dish again but for the life of me I honestly don’t know how to make it. I’ve never cooked a turnip before.

When it comes to other things I enjoy, like homemade mashed potatoes, it’s more so lack of time then it is skill or laziness. Making mashed potatoes from scratch is very time consuming. Rather then go without mashed potatoes I usually use potato flakes. Trust me, it’s NOTHING like the real thing but it’s better than nothing.

I have purchased mashed potatoes that come in chunk form. You just have to add milk and mash them up. That is too much work, especially if you are trying to get dinner on the table in a hurry.

I have also tried frozen pre-made mashed potatoes that were a lot easier to make (simply heat in the microwave) but I find you end up compromising the taste for convenience.

I recently had the opportunity (Thanksgiving to be exact) to try out Bob Evan’s Mashed Potatoes. I was going to review them on another night but our kitten prompted us to use them on Thanksgiving. While we were working on dinner in the kitchen our kitten Bella jumped up on the table and started licking the mashed potatoes that we had for dinner. We had a pre-made Thanksgiving dinner that came with mashed potatoes.

Needless to say no one wanted to eat mashed potatoes that were pre-licked by our kitten so we tossed them out. However it’s not Thanksgiving dinner without mashed potatoes. Thankfully I had the Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes on the fridge.

The mashed potatoes are pre-made. Simply warm up in the microwave oven and enjoy.

I have to say I was rather impressed. The Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes not only tasted fresh but they also tasted a lot like the ones my mom used to make. They were even seasons perfectly. The container was enough to feed my family of four too.

These mashed potatoes were thick and creamy. You could tell they were not made with dried potato flakes. These mashed potatoes tasted like someone cooked them from scratch.

I honestly didn’t know that Bob Evans sold a variety of foods in the local grocery store. I cannot seem to track them down locally, but I think we live in a Twilight Zone or something because we never have anything good local to us.

Bob Evans sells mashed potatoes, sausages, breakfast sandwiches, wraps and other delicious goodies at grocery store across the country.

I have only eaten at a Bob Evan’s restaurant once, and that was many years ago. We don’t have one here in New York where I live. Having som any Bob Evan’s products sold across the country means you can take the fresh, homemade goodness home with you and enjoy it no matter where you live.

I’m giving Bob Evan’s Mashed Potatoes two thumbs up. It’s quick and easy to make and tastes fresh and close to homemade. Not to menion it’s SO GOOD! Plus they come in other flavors. :-)

Fore more information about Bob Evans products please visit www.BobEvans.com. Check out the “Grocery” tab on top of the page to see what products are available at the grocery store. You can also find a locator for Bob Evan’s restaurants near  you.

Novica Review & Home Business Opportunity (Giveaway too!)

When it comes to holiday gift shopping, I always love to step “outside the box”. What I mean is, I don’t like shopping for the “must have” product of the moment. I’m not into what is trendy. If I was I’d have a cell phone that could do more then text and make calls. Of course I’d love a Smartphone, but not having one is not THAT bad either.

When I look for gifts for family and friends I like to look for unique gifts. The kind you can’t easily find at the mall or local department store.

In the past I have purchased gifts from Novica. Novica is an online shop from National Geographic. The items sold on their Novica site are not products you can find locally. They are things that are hand made by individuals from around the world. When you purchase a product that product is delivered from the country of origin. It doesn’t come from a massive warehouse.

I love the fact that these items are not mass produced. I love to support local artists, especially if it means supporting people in third world countries who are poor and the sale of their products helps to support their family or communities.

Each product sold on Novica also gives you a biography about the artist who created it. I find it fascinating to learn about people in others countries and how the product you are interested in came to be.

Novica sells a variety of products including accessories, clothing, rugs, home decor, artwork and jewelry, to name a few. They carry mens accessories, women’s scarves, wall decor, rings, belts, handbags, walking sticks, tableware, games and so much more.

My most recent purchase from Novica is a set of GORGEOUS wall art. I love butterflies and I found these beautiful butterfly paintings that I fell in love with.

Mine are equally as lovely as the set I saw on the site. Considering they are all hand painted some variations in colors are to be expected. I actually welcome those variations because it makes each piece truly unique and one-of-a-king.

Can you believe I paid only $44+ for these three beautiful pieces? You can hang them all together or place them on your walls individually. I’m thinking of putting one by my desk, one in the kitchen and the larger piece in the bathroom.

These images were painted on the reverse side of a glass frame. I wish the photos did a better job at capturing just how lovely and colorful the artwork is.

The artwork was even sent to me wrapped ready to give as a gift. It was wrapped in a thick paper wrapping paper and big natural bow (the bow was a bit smashed from shipping but could easily be fluffed back up). The package was topped off with a little handmade doll.

I’ve never been disappointed with the things I’ve purchased from Novica.

Did you know that Novica also offers a home business? It’s called Novica Live. In a nut shell you can sell Novica products in person to family and friends (home parties, at the office…).
