I love it when celebrities use their status to help promote great causes. The Muppets are no exception. Even characters made out of felt can be celebrities too.
. Try telling Miss. Piggy otherwise. Ha Ha.
This holiday season the Muppets have teamed up with Underwriters Laboratories to help promote safety this holiday season. You might not be familiar with the name Underwriters Laboratories, but you know their products. Check out many of your electrical products and you should see the UL logo on them.
Most people have so much on their minds during the holidays that they might forget to do simple tasks that only take a minute to do. Planning parties, cooking huge meals, baking, shopping… it can consume every moment of your day during the holidays. Sadly it’s that “absent mindedness” that result in harm to your own personal safety and the safety of others.
This holiday season, Kermit the Frog, Dr. Honeydew Bunsen and his lovable assistant Beaker have joined forces with UL Labs to help families brush up on their holiday safety.
Some of the topics that the Muppets covered include;
- How often should you water your tree?
- How do I know my lights are safe to use?
- What is the best way to hang up my lights?
Did you know that EVERY MINUTE 17 children are taken to the Emergency Room (ER) because of unintentional injuries. That number INCREASES during the holiday season.
The holiday season sees an increase in a lot of accidental injuries and fatalities for both children and adults. Many children get seriously burned because pot and pan handles are not turned in properly when people are cooking their holiday meals. Adults fall from ladders and roof tops installing holiday lights and decorations.
Real Christmas trees that are not watered every day pose a serious safety threat for you and your family. I know they are beautiful and make your home smell lovely, but they are very dangerous, especially if you are not serious about keeping them fully hydrated every day.
According the the United States Fire Administration and F.E.M.A Christmas trees fires account for 250 fires annually, resulting in 14 deaths, 26 injuries and more than $13.8 million in property damage. That is totally unacceptable! The holidays are a time for celebration, joy and happiness. No one should be attending a funeral or spending their holidays in the hospital all because someone didn’t take proper care of their Christmas tree.
Typically fires are started by Christmas tree lights, open flames from candles or a tree being too close to a heating source.
