I enjoy drinking water. I never used to. When I was a kid drinking plain water was pure torture. I had to mix it with something like Tang or Kool-Aid. My mom used to force me to drink regular tap water. I knew water was good for me, I just didn’t like how plain water tasted.
Fast forward to today. I drink water all day long. Plain, unflavored water. Of course I do enjoy my morning coffee and afternoon tea, but mostly I drink plain water.
Sometimes water does get a bit boring so I might indulge in some flavored waters, or one of those packets of flavor that you mix in with a glass or bottle of water. Whatever I add to my water needs to be naturally sweetened and low in calories whenever possible.
I recently had a chance to try a new line of flavored water called Activate Water. It’s water that is enhanced with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The water is available in interesting flavors like Blueberry Pomegranate, Lulo Pear and Passion Fruit. It also comes in regular flavors like Fruit Punch and Lemon Lime.
I’m sure many people have tried vitamin enhanced flavored waters before. Activate Water is just a bit different then what you have seen on store shelves. Activate Water does not mix the vitamins and flavored powdered into the water until you are ready to drink it.
When you purchase a bottle of Activate Water the bottle it’s self is just water. In the cap you’ll find the vitamin enhanced flavored power.
To “activate” the water you first need to twist the upper part of the cap. By doing so you release a little “trap door” under the cap of the bottle which allows the powder to fall into the water. Once released you need to shake the bottle to mix the powder into the water. Then twist the secondary part of the cap to drink and enjoy the water.
A couple of times I had a hard time getting the first part of the cap to twist (the part that releases the powder). Most of the time I didn’t have a problem.
I tried several flavors of the water. Some I really enjoyed and some I did not. The Lolu Pear for example didn’t taste like Pear to me, but the Blueberry Pomegranate did taste like Blueberries, which I enjoyed.
I totally understand the concept of mixing the drink when you are ready to enjoy it, so the vitamins and minerals are freshly mixed in the water, rather then have them floating around the water for weeks or months at a time. I honestly don’t know what effect sitting in the water has to vitamins and minerals. I assumed it was fine since other waters are like that.
Activate Water is a fun novelty. It’s cool the first few times you try the water. I just don’t know how practical it is in the long run. There three steps you must do before you can actually drink the water (twist the cap to release the mix, shake, twist the other cap to open). When I’m thirsty I just want to drink. I don’t want to have to work for it first.
As much as I enjoyed most of the flavors I cannot justify spending the money on Activate Water. A 12-pack will cost you $29.50. When you factor in shipping a 12-pack would cost me $46.42, which translates into about $3.87 per bottle.
Activate Water is sold in some retail locations (just not near me). Perhaps the price of the bottle is a lot less since you do not have to worry about shipping. Without shopping the bottles should cost around $2.46. That still seems a bit pricey. However I’m not sure how much similar vitamin waters cost, so perhaps it’s an average price.
Overall I enjoyed the flavors, I like the idea of the “fresh” vitamins and minerals and the novelty of watching the power release from the little trap door under the cap was fun. The only downside is that they are not readily available in all markets and they are very pricey.

Well, it’s certainly a unique product! Id love to try the Bluberry Pomagranate one. I do try the other vitamin waters and some are as little as a dollar a piece at discount stores. But, I dont know the possible difference in sizing? I would for sure try this at least once, but honestly, the price would have me looking for cheaper. I could see the novelty of this going pretty far though….am guessing this summer it will RUN!

yeah, looks like it might be fun to try out or to get your kids to drink more water but that’s too pricey for me. was it powdery at all or did it mix in well?
