Chevy Cruze Review & Giveaway

OK…before you get too excited I’m NOT giving away a Chevy Cruze. Oh my goodness… imagine that? WOW! I’d have some stellar stats during that giveaway period. LOL! I’m sorry to disappoint you but the giveaway is for a $25 gas gift card for three lucky readers. It’s not a car, but “free” gas is always nice. 🙂

For this review I thought I’d try something different and have my husband, who probably drove the car more then I did, do the review for me.

Nice cruising in the Chevy Cruze

The last time I was fortunate enough to purchase a new car was back in 1996. Since then I have gone the used car route. For the past week I had the opportunity to test drive a 2012 Chevy Cruze. From the moment I first put the car into drive I was pleased with my experience. You have to understand that with my used cars I have not had certain things to enjoy that many new cars have. So when I say things like leather seats, GPS, OnStar, automatic starter and XM Radio, these things are a luxury to me.

Where I live the mornings are starting to get cold, so the automatic starter was a nice option which I have never had before. Let’s not forget about the heated front seats, which sure were nice on my first morning driving to work with the temperature at a crisp 23 degrees.

The Chevy Cruze has a very smooth and quiet drive. The pickup is amazing for a 4 cylinder and as it shifts into different speeds it’s barely noticeable. It also feels like the tires are gripping the road as well as taking turns very nicely, which are nice since one of the roads on my commute to work is very windy.

All the controls inside the car are within reach. The touch screen console was very easy to understand and when it came to the sound quality it was very impressive. There is also more than enough space for a family of four and the cargo space offers plenty of room as well.

I guess if I had to point out one negative about the Chevy Cruze it would be the size of the driver’s side headrest.  And maybe it’s not even a negative about the Cruze, it could just be something with me as a driver. I felt like I didn’t have a clear view as I was backing up and found myself looking behind me to the left and right quite a few times because the view seemed to be blocked.

Overall I could not be happier with the performance of the Chevy Cruze. It’s an amazing ride and a solid car. Calling it a compact car doesn’t seem to be right because it’s so much more.

I would have to agree with everything Rob wrote about the car.

I could give you in-depth detail about the car (specs), but I felt personal experiences were a lot more important than the car’s specs. You can find everything you need to know about the car as far as safety, performance and powertrain warranty simply by visiting www.Chevrolet.com/Cruze.

Some might say it’s a “girl thing” that numbers and stats don’t impress me much. What I care about is how safe a vehicle is, how it drives, the features, gas mileage, is it roomy enough for my family and the price.

As far as safety the 2011 version (2011 Cruze) was an IIHS Top Safety Pick17 and received a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

My husband used to drive a Chevy Prism. I really didn’t like that car at all. It felt like you were driving in a shoe box. The doors were so thin. I never felt safe in that car. With the Chevy Cruze I felt very safe and comfortable. It’s a sturdy vehicle.

As you can see from what my husband says the car drives great. I too loved how quiet it was and how it handled the road. Unlike my car when this car shifted gears you barely noticed it (if at all) where as when my car shifts gears it shakes and rattles.

The features – amazing! Touch screen dashboard control, OnStar, XM Radio, leather seats, heated front seats, an air bag you could turn on and off in case you had a young passenger up front. Everything was in easy reach. The trunks was huge. The dashboard showed the speed using both a gauge and a digital read out. I have nothing but rave reviews for all the car’s features.

Gas mileage was great. We received the car with a full tank of gas and it left with about 1/4 of  tank. We put roughly 300+ miles on the car. With my car I have to fill up everytime I leave the parking lot (ha ha).

It’s roomy enough for my family of four. Plus my kids loved the car and never complained about feeling confined in the backseat.

As for the price, the Chevy Cruze starts off at around $16,720 for the base model. The one we had retailed for close to $24,000.

Overall we all loved this car. I was sad to see it drive away this morning when the dealer came to take it back. I wish we could have kept it longer. We were spoiled being able to drive around in such a luxurious car for the past week. Now we have to go back to our used cars without automatic starters and heated seats. My car doesn’t even have a CD player let alone XM Radio.

My husband even took my Father for a test drive last weekend. He fell in love with the car too and last I heard he was going to look into buying one.

My whole family is giving the Chevy Cruze two thumbs up (each!).
