Game of Your Life – Friday Night on NBC

This Friday, December 2, 2011, the newest addition to the Wal-mart and P&G Family Movie Night series airs. It’s called Game of Your Life and it will be featured on NBC at 8:00 PM (EST)/ 7:0o PM (CT).

I was excited to see this movie because it features Nathan Kress, otherwise known as Freddie on one of my family’s favorite series, iCarly. The movie also stars Lea Thompson. I haven’t seen her on TV or in movies in ages.

My family was fortunate to see an advanced screening of the movie.

Zach Taylor is a brilliant high school gaming fanatic (“gamer”) who gets a scholarship to join an exclusive video game design program at DIGD (Digital Institute of Game Design). The program is the brain child of gaming icon Marcus Bentton.

Zach finds himself surrounded by gifted game designers. He feels that his future is set thanks to this amazing opportunity he was given.

The Freshman Project is th first challenge Zach must pass. This project will ultimately eliminate half of the freshman class within the first few months.

Zach is teamed up with with a classmate name Sara and his two roommates, Phillip and Donald. His team must work together to survive the interatcive game and not get eliminated from the school.

Things are going well for Zach, that is until he learns about financial problems his father is having. His desire to help out his dad forces him to take a job with Mr. Bentton to work on a mysterious project. The project takes up all his time and Zach is left feeling guilty that he’s letting his teammates down. At the same time he wants to help out his father. He is torn and doesn’t know what to do.

His teammates feel as if he’s abandoned them and let them down and threaten to remove him from their team. At the same time Zach learns more about the secret project Bentton has him working on.

Zach is torn between doing the right thing, followin his heart and taking care of his future. No matter what he decides it will effect the people around him.

Will Zach return to his team and give them his undivided attention? Will he be able to help his father out? What is this mysterious project he is workiong on? To learn the answers to these questions you’ll have to tune in to find out.

What I love about the Wal-mart and P&G Family Movie Night movies is that they are entertaining and enjoyable for the whole family. My son like the gaming aspect of this film and the fact that the main character was a boy. My daughter liked seeing “Freddie” from iCarly (perhaps she has a crush on him? LOL). I liked the over all story and how Zach had to do what he felt was the right thing, and how somtimes the decisions we have to make in life are not always the easiest. I also liked the good rapport that all the kids in the movie had with their parents and the teachers.

There is no sex, violence, bad language or anyting I would think was not suitable for my children. The storyline was not “mindless fluff” either, like many of the shows that kids enjoy watching. It taught the kids some valuable life lessons without being overly obvious that this was a movie meant to teach a lesson or moral.

I honestly couldn’t find anything wrong with the film. It kept my attention. I wasn’t looking at the clock hoping it would end. Even my husband said “it was good” (referring to the movie).

This Friday night make sure to set your TIVO or leave yourself a Post It note to watch Game of Your Life.

I really wish there were more films like this that were actually ‘family friendly’ Seems like even most cartoon movies these days have questionable content. Maybe the networks are finally getting the idea that some of us don’t want our kids’ minds and ears filled with garbage!
