Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon ( DVD Giveaway)

It’s hard to believe that music legend Michael Jackson has been gone for over two years. It seems like yesterday the world was stunned by his sudden death. His passing was certainly a tragedy, especially for the music world.

I’m not here to debate on whether or not he was a drug abuser or pedophile. I’m only focusing on his music. It’s hard to deny that Michael Jackson was a talented singer and song writer.

There have been so many books and documentaries written about Michael Jackson over the years. One of my favorites is Th Michael Jackson Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones. I didn’t read the book but I saw the documentary. It really made me think.

I had the opportunity to view a new documentary called Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon. It was produced by David Gest and directed by Andrew Eastel. David Gest is a concert promoter and media personality best known for being married to Liza Minelli from 2002 – 2003.

Michael Jackson starts out with some background about Michael Jackson in his early years. It was fun to see the young Michael Jackson, the one I remember when I was younger. I also got a kick seeing the fashions we wore back in the day. The documentary then goes through the years from when Michael was with the Jackson 5 all the way up to his solo career and untimely death.

Throughout the documentary are interviews with his mother, brother and sister. Also featured are Smokey Robinson (I was surprised to see him) and others who have worked with Michael over the years.

I have mixed emotions about this documentary. I did enjoy learning more about who Michael Jackson is and where he came from. It also made me sad to see how misunderstood he was. At the same time I feel like some people are just out to exploit him and his name just to make a buck.

His mother and siblings are interviewed in the documentary, and I believe Katherine approved of the documentary too. The documentary really did get me to think about Michael Jackson again. Was he just totally misunderstood, or was it all an act to cover up his true personality?

I’m on the fence about this one. I liked it and I didn’t like it. There were parts I loved and parts that make me question why this documentary was made. I guess you need to see it to judge it for yourself.

Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon is available on both Blu-ray and DVD where ever movies are sold.
