Moon Dough – Out of this world COOL!

There are times I feel like I live under a rock. Often I tend to find out about things long after they have been on the market. Sigh…

I have heard of Moon Sand before. In fact we used to have several tubs of it for our kids. My son loved to play with it. He used the white Moon Sand and pretended it was snow. He’d pour it on a cookie sheet (one with sides) and drive is cars and trucks through it.

It wasn’t until recently that I learned about Moon Dough. Moon Dough is a very unusual type of dough that you can mold into various shapes either by hand or using a mold. It NEVER dries out! That means your kids can play with their creations for as long as the want, then mold the clay into another form when they are ready for something else.

Moon Dough is also hypo-allergetic and wheat-free for those who might suffer from those allergies.

Moon Dough doesn’t feel like ordinary dough. It’s not feel slimy or “wet”. It feels dry. The texture reminds me of a Styrofoam packaging peanut.

The Moon Dough doesn’t seem to stick to anything or leave any discoloration or residue on surfaces or your hands.

I love how it can mold into any shape. We have the Moon Dough Ocean Pals set. It came with cute ocean creature molds. My kids soon realized that the dough would mold around anything. Best of all it doesn’t really stick so removing it from the shape is fairly easy to do.

It molds to shapes very well too, with clean impressions. Unlike traditional dough which can lose it’s shape when molding it around something, the Moon Dough doesn’t. For example, if you use it on top of embossed or raised lettering the letters come out perfectly clear whereas other doughs don’t often come off that easily and sometimes distort the letters.

The kit came with two Moon Dough packages (purple and bright green), as well as four molds and a backdrop. Three of the four molds had an interesting spring feature to them so when you pressed down on the dough to make the shape the spring would easily pop the shape out. The shapes came out perfect each and every time. They are referred to as Push n’ Pop – push them into the Moon Dough and the shape pops out. :-)

The dough appears to stay clean too. Sometimes dough gets dirty due to dirt on kid’s hands or when residue/color from a dough gets on a child’s hand and then transfers to another dough. So far I have not noticed that.

As an adult I have been enjoying the Moon Dough too. I find it rather theraputic. I simply take a piece in my hand and squeeze it. It acts as a great stress reliever.

From a mom’s point of view this is a great toy/activity. There is little to no mess, the kids can do so much with it and it doesn’t dry out. I plan on getting more colors for my kids as well as pick up a few sets for gifts.

Moon Dough is sold at many retail locations. You can also visit www.MoonDough.com for more information. You can also find Moon Dough on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/MoonDough) and on YouTube (www.YouTube.com/User/MoonDoughToy).
