Some people might think I’m crazy (most especially my husband) but I buy holiday gifts for our pets. Considering we have five cats and a dog, that equals a lot of pet gifts. Considering our pets are members of our family it’s only fair for them to enjoy a special holiday treat too.
Our older cats are happy to have a new scratch pad and some edible treats. They are not into toys that much, except they LOVE anything with cat nip and those toys that dangle from a string. Our kitten, Bella, loves all kinds of toys. It’s going to be much easier to shop for her.
Our dog Espn (pronounced Es-pin) LOVES toys. He has his own toy box which is over flowing with toys. I’d love to toss some out but he actually plays with pretty much all of the, which I find unusual. Sometimes he has toys all over our home. I joke that it’s like having a toddler with the toys all over the place.
You don’t have to gift your pet with a toy or treat. There are plenty of other gift options available for them.
This year why not consider getting your dog a nice sweater from PetSmart’s Martha Stewart collection. If you live in an area that experiences harsh Winters your pet will appreciate something that will help keep them warm, especially when they need to go outside in the harsh conditions to do their “business”.
I never pictured Espn as a sweater dog. We live in a condo complex and I see a lot of dogs (mostly little dogs) wearing sweaters and rain coats. I always thought it was a good idea, but I didn’t think that Espn would go for it.
Espn now has a lovely sweater from PetSmart’s Marth Stewarts collection. I thought he would fight me tooth and nail to get it on him. The first time he did, but after that he has been really good about me putting it on him. He doesn’t seem to mind it at all. I think he loves the attention he’s getting from the other pet parents in our complex who see him and comment on how handsome he looks in his sweater.
Sorry about Espn’s eyes in the above picture. He looks kind of silly.
As you might already know, Martha Stewart is a big time animal lover. She owns a lot of pets and always makes sure that they have quality products. It goes without saying that the pet products that Martha Stewart offers are also quality products.
The sweater we have for Espn is made very well. We’ve only had to wash it once so far (he got it muddy), but it handled being washed very well with no problems. The sweater is made as well as a “human” sweater, with the exception being that the dog sweater is smaller.
The sweater is made in such a way that allows him to do his “business” without getting it on his sweater. It even has cute little buttons on it.
Of course I’m going to get Espn some new toys for Christmas. He loves toys, especially ones that make noises. PetSmart has THE CUTEST TOYS! Some are so cute I can’t imagine giving it to a dog to chew up and destroy. For example, our little plush penguin. He’s a dog toy! I can’t tell you how many times I cringe watching Espn chew on him. Poor little penguin! He’s just so cute.
Whether you are looking for dog toys or cat toys, PetSmart has so many options that you’ll have a hard time choosing. I currently have about a dozen toys in my online shopping cart. I cannot afford to buy them all so I have to narrow them down to just a couple.
While you are shopping at PetSmart, whether online or in the store, please consider purchasing one of the 2011 Luv-a-Pet collectibles. Lucky is an adorable Calico Kitty and Chance is a sweet brown pup. Both plush animals are approximately 18″ tall. There is a larger version of Chance also available. Both plush are wearing a red scarf with the year 2011 sewn into it.
Ten percent (10%) of the sales of these plush animals goes to PetSmart Charities in the US and Canada to help homeless pets.
This holiday season as you are shopping for your pet, think about homeless pets who would do anything for a forever home to love and care about them.
The regular size Lucky and Chance are only $5.00 each. They are worth every penny. I would pay more for them, especially knowing that they are going to a great cause.
These plush are meant as dog toys (no kidding!). Each of them has a squeaker inside of it. There is no way I’m giving these to Espn. Instead I gave one to my daughter and the other to my son. As far as they are concerned they are regular plush animals. They are very soft and snugly.
The kids have to be careful not to let them squeak otherwise Espn will come running. He wants to play with the plush so bad, but I won’t let him.

a tennis ball.
When we are outside, Dexter will pretty much only play with a tennis ball. Inside though, he loves chewing on rope toys!
