Dog-e-Glow – Stylish safety leashes and collars that light up the night

I love our dog Espn (pronounced Es-pin) very much. I am always worried about his safety and well being. The same applies to my husband when he takes our dog out at night for his late night walk. We are fortunate to live in a condo complex that has lights in the parking lot, but occasionally those lights go out (power outages) or my husband walks our dog in an area of our complex with little to not light.

We have a small flashlight that we’ve tried attaching to his leash, but it gets rather cumbersome because we have one of those containers that hold the doggie poop bags. The flashlight just ends up being in the way. We really need to attach it to the leash otherwise we’ll keep forgetting to take it with us.

It’s important that my husband and our dog (and occasionally me since I walk him at night sometimes too) have something on us to notify the cars that go zipping through the parking lot and our complex that we are there. Many people who live in this complex drive like homicidal maniacs. It’s no wonder no one has been hit yet. We’ve even gone so far as to yell at people to slow it down.

We have the perfect solution to our night time safety. We now have a collar and leash from Dog-e-Glow. Dog-e-Glow offers stylish safety leashes and collars that are unlike anything you have seen before. They light up!

These are seriously COOL! My husband tells me constantly how the other dog owners who happen to be out and about when he’s walking our dog will come over to him just to ask him about the collar and the leash. The leash is usually what they see first and foremost. Our dog is in dire need of being groomed so that collar doesn’t stand out as well as it could.

I don’t have a working video camera so I was unable to take a video of the leash and collar in action. Check out this video (below) to see how Dog-e-Glow leashes and collars work in the dark. If you are reading this via e-mail you’ll have to come to my site to see the video or CLICK HERE to view it on YouTube.

The lights can be either stationary (static) or flashing. My husband jokes that when he has them on the flashing mode that he feels like he’s heading off to a disco with our dog. Ha Ha. He tells me that most of the time he’ll use the static mode, and occasionally use the flashing mode on the collar only.

These are fully functioning leashes and collars.

The collar features and each on/off clip. It’s made very well too (sturdy). I was a bit concerned that the on/off box for the lights might be bothersome to him, but he has never shown any signs of discomfort with the collar on.

The leash is a really long length, which I like. It’s also a very strong leash. I am sure this can stand up to even the biggest, strongest dog.

Both the leash and the collar have a quarter size on/off box. To turn the lights on/off simply press on the box. Our dog rough houses with our cats all the time and he’s never turned the light on by himself, which is a good thing since you don’t want to waste batteries.

Speaking of batteries the leash and collar (sold separately) each come with batteries already inserted into them and extra batteries. If I recall correctly the batteries last for 150 hours. That is A LOT of late night walks. :-) The batteries are replaceable so you can purchase more when needed where ever button cell-type batteries are sold.

Dog-e-Glow leashes and collars are available in a variety of designs, including college logo designs.

We have a cute dog bone design. My dog won’t sit still when I am trying to take his picture. You can sort of see the bone collar in this photo that I took when he was sleeping.

That is our kitten Bella sleeping next to him.

It was impossible for me to get decent night time pictures with the Dog-e-Glow leash and collar lit up. Here are a couple of photos. In the bottom one you can make out the collar (it’s going horizontal in the photo).

The blue light is kind of “fuzzy”. It was hard to get a good picture when our dog wouldn’t stand still long enough. The video (above) gives you a better idea of what the collar and leashes like look in the dark.

Here is our collar as it looks normally and what it looks like lit up. Our leash has the same exact design on it.

There are plenty designs to suit your tastes (or that of your dog). Some other designs include camouflage, Autism Awareness, plaid, graffiti, skull and stars & stripes, to name a few.

Collars sell for $22.99 and the leashes sell for $25.99. They are a bit pricier the other collars and leashes, but you can’t put a price tag on safety.

If you live in a rural area with no street lights, or in an area where there is a lot of automobile traffic, the Dog-e-Glow leashes and collars are a must have, not only for your safety but also the safety of your dog.

If you have a yard and you let your dog out at night to do his/her “business”, these collars are also great to have in case your dog wanders off your property. It would be a lot easier to find your dog wearing one of these collars then without one.

I absolutely LOVE the D0g-e-Glow leash and collar. It gives me peace of mind when it comes to the safety of my dog and my husband (and myself) when out at night.
