Beautiful Jim Shore Figurines & Other Gifts from Coppin Gifts (Giveaway – ends 3/11/12)

Whenever I got to the mall I always love to swing by the Hallmark store, most especially during the holidays. I love all the fun collectibles you can find there. My family also makes it a point of picking up a new holiday ornament from Hallmark’s collection every year too. I also love that I can find great gifts there too.

Coppin’s is an great online resource for Hallmark products and other collectibles like Jim Shore figurines, Precious Moments, Willow Tree and My Little Kitchen Fairies. They also carry the beautiful DaVinci Beads, My Pillow Pet, Happy Nappers, WebKinz, Ugly Dolls and so much more.

Coppin’s asked me to check out one of their collectibles available both online and in their retail store. In fact Coppin’s has seven retail locations in Utah.

I opted to review a figurine from the Jim Shore collection. Jim Shore has many Disney figurines. I love Disney and many of their characters. It was so hard to narrow it down to just one piece. I finally settled on a lovely Little Mermaid figurine. I chose her because the Little Mermaid movie was a favorite of our daughter’s when she was little. My husband also loves the movie. His “macho” male friends tease him about it but my husband doesn’t care. He loves the movie.

The Jim Shore figurine collection is “officially” known as Heartwood Creek by Jim Shore.

Here is the piece I selected.

It’s beautiful. I love how colorful the piece is too. It’s a decent size too.

Unlike other fine collectibles this piece is very well made and sturdy. It’s not fine and delicate like most collectibles. When you have children and pets it’s nice to have collectibles that could stand to be knocked around a few times without fear of them shattering into a million pieces.

Coppin’s carries several Jim Shore Disney pieces.

Jim Shore also has plenty of other figurines that are not Disney related too.

My order from Coppin’s arrived quickly and was packaged very well. Overall I am very pleased with their service.

Create your own chocolate with Choccreate (Giveaway – ends 3/10/12)

Do you like chocolate? Do you live and breath chocolate (I know some people who do – ha ha)? Do you find yourself daydreaming about what your “perfect” chocolate creation would be?

Some people (like my husband) prefer plain and simple chocolate. Others, like myself, like chocolates with everything but the kitchen sink in them. I love chocolates that are filled fruits, nuts and crunchies. Plain chocolate is great but chocolate with your favorite add-ins is heavenly.

What if you could create your perfect chocolate bar? What would it consist of? Would you add in bluberries, or perhaps crushed potato chips? Or would you spinkle it with sea salt or infuse it with chili powder? The possibilities are truly infinite.

Choccreate is an online chocolate maker that allows you, the customer, to customize your own chocolate bars simply by adding in your choice of ingredients. I was amazed at how many delicious and unique ingredients they offer. Some ingredients are common with chocolate like marshmallows, nuts and pretzels. Choccreate also offers such unique ingredients as granulated honey, candied Lilac flowers, 23 kart gold flakes, Mimosa flowers and plums, to name a few.

Choccreate asked me if I would like to do a review. Ha. That was silly question. Of course I do!

I was able to create three different chocolate bars. It took me a long time to come up with them because there were so many ingredients I wanted to include in my chocolate bars. It was hard to narrow things down.

To start creating your own chocolate bar you first get to select from dark chocolate, milk chocolate or white chocolate. After that you get to go through the ingredients and add them to your chocolate bar.

The bars start out at $5.85. Each ingredient has a price next to it so you can stick to a budget if you have to. The extras range in price from .45 cents to $4.95 (gold flakes). Most ingredients are in the .55 – .75 range.

I created three very tasty chocolate bars.

I like salted chocolate covered caramels so my first bar I created was a dark chocolate bar with caramel bits and Red Hawaiian sea salt.

The next bar I created was in honor of one of my favorite candies – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I used a milk chocolate bar and topped it with Reese’s Pieces and peanut butter chips.

The last bar I created was done with a county fair/carnival theme in mind. I used a dark chocolate bar base and topped it with marshmallows, mini pretzels, Jungle peanuts (a bit different then regular peanuts) and rainbow dessert sprinkles.

These are fairly large and heavy weight bars too. Choccreate makes sure to add in ample amounts of the extra toppings you selected, which you can see if the photos.

Each chocolate bar comes wrapped in plastic and housed inside a sturdy cardboard box. If you wanted to give a bar as a gift you wouldn’t even have to wrap it because the packaging is so beautifully done.

You can even add a special message to the chocolate bar like “I Love You” or “Good Luck”.

I shouldn’t even have to tell you how these chocolate bars taste. :-) They taste A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The chocolate is very fresh as well as the extra ingredients that I had the chocolate made with. My family’s favorite is the one with the marshmallows and pretzels. Because I’m watching what I am eating I only took a little piece from each bar to try it out. I love the one with the marshmallows too but the one with the Red Hawaiian Sea Salt is really good too. I love the salty taste mixed with the sweet chocolate.

Everyone loves the peanut butter bar too.

I like that the chocolates are made up with squares so you can break off a small piece to enjoy. Although I dare you to eat just one square. It’s impossible. The chocolate is just way too good.

I’m sorry about the fingerprints on the chocolate.

I think it would be fun to create a special chocolate bar for an event or occasion. It would be fun to give all your quests a very special, personalized chocolate bar (ideal for weddings!). These chocolate bars make for great favors, gifts or “just because”.

Choccreate has generously offered to give a lucky reader a $20 Choccreate gift certificate so that they can create their very own “perfect” chocolate bar. Thank you Choccreate!

To enter please describe for me what your perfect chocolate bar would be made with.

Movie Review: Immortals

Coming to Blu-ray and DVD on March 6, 2012 is the movie Immortals from the producers of the movie 300.

Immortals is based upon mythological characters and stories. I have always been fascinated by Greek mythology. Oddly enough my daughter was recently studying Greek mythology in school and several classmates asked the teacher if they could watch the movie Immortals in class. I am grateful that they didn’t. It’s not a k id-friendly movie. It’s also rated R.

Immortals is the story of a power hungry king named King Hyperion, played by Mickey Rourke. He is out to destroy mankind on his quest to find a very powerful weapon called the Epirus Bow. Whomever possesses the Epirus Bow has the power to unleash the Titans and reap havoc on both Heaven and Earth.

The Gods do not want to get involved. Instead Zeus selects a young peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill). From the time he was a young boy Theseus was trained to be a warrior in hope that one day he could stop King Hyperion.

One day King Hyperion’s army invades Theseus’ village and kill his mother in cold blood and sends Theseus away to be enslaved in the salt mines. That is where he meets a mysterious oracle name Phaedra (Freida Pinto). Phaedra knows that there is something special about Theseus and helps him to escape.

When Theseus returns to his village to give his mother a proper burial he stumbles upon the Epirus Bow. Unfortunately the bow is taken from him and finds its way into the hands of King Hyperion. The king plans on using the bow to defeat the army and unleash the Titans.

Together with another soldier, Theseus and Phaedra try to rush to the aid of their people to try and stop King Hyperion before it’s too late. What they find is an epic battle for the future of mankind.

My daughter has been begging me to watch the Immortals. However I told her that I had to see if first. I was concerned there might be sex and nudity. Their is very little sex (only the brief appearance of a naked female butt) and the sex scene lasts for about 60 seconds. That was my #1 concern. However this movie also has a lot of graphic violence. By that I mean skulls being cracked open, slit throats, stabbings, and bodies splattering when they get thrown into the wall. If you get queasy at the sight of blood then this is NOT the movie for you. There is a lot of blood in this movie. I love horror movies so it didn’t bother me at all.

Visually speaking this movie is amazing. I especially love the shots of the ocean and sky. Everything was made to look completely realistic. The special effects were pretty cool too.

The story line was easy enough to follow, however I am not 100% sure what exactly the oracles are.

This is the first movie I have ever seen that featured Zeus as a young man. When I think of Zeus I think of Liam Neeson’s part in Clash of the Titans. In a way this movie is a little bit like that film too – good versus evil with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance.

The bonus features include a brief discussion of Greek mythology and several deleted scenes from the film.

If you are into Greek mythology, or love movies with a lot of special effects and action then you will enjoy the Immortals.

Here is the movie’s trailer for your enjoyment. If you are reading this via e-mail you can view the trailer here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI-SmJ-exBE. Disregard the 11-11-11 date. That was the date the movie was released in theaters.

NEW! Jello S’mores and Stawberry Sundae Puddings

Last week I posted some photos on my blogs Facebook page for the new Jello S’mores and Strawberry Sundae puddings. I finally at the opportunity to try them out with my family and let me just say – YUMMY!

My family was very excited to try out the S’more Pudding. After all, who doesn’t love that delightful chocolate, marshmallow and graham cracker treat?

The Jello S’mores pudding features a layer of delicious chocolate pudding on the bottom and a combination of marshmallow cream and graham crackers on top. I would have to say that each layer took up about 50% of the cup (meaning both layers were about equal in size).

The top layer is really thick so you really have to dig down deep to pull up some of the chocolate pudding. When my kids first started to eat the pudding it looked like they were only eating the cream first and none of the chocolate pudding. My husband suggested that the kids mix up the chocolate and the marshmallow cream layer first, and then eat it. That worked out much better.

I did try some of the pudding so I could do the review. The chocolate part takes like regular chocolate Jello pudding. The marshmallow cream part really does taste like a combination of marshmallow and graham crackers. I was very surprised because you don’t really see much of the graham crackers in it.

I wouldn’t say that it tasted exactly like a S’mores but it did taste delicious. The combination of flavors work together perfectly. It’s a very decadent treat. It almost seems like it’s much more of an actual dessert than a snack treat.

I love chocolate. I love anything and everything made out of chocolate but I have to say I think I actually prefer the Strawberry Sundae pudding over the S’mores pudding.

The Strawberry Sundae pudding features a layer of what I assume is vanilla pudding topped with luscious and creamy strawberry. I would have to say that this really does remind me of a strawberry sundae. Or even like a strawberry cheesecake, but not as thick as a cheesecake. It is very flavorful and the strawberry really bursts with flavor in your mouth.

Just like it is with the S’mores pudding, the Strawberry Sundae pudding seems more like a gourmet dessert than a treat. You could easily put them in a fancy dessert dish and serve them for dessert at a dinner party.

Look for the new S’mores and Strawberry Sundae puddings at a store shelf near you.

Dancing with the Stars Season 14 Celebrities

I just learned that the Dancing with the Stars celebrity dancers for Season 14 have just been announced. They are as follows;

-   Jack Wagner (52) from Melrose Place and General Hospital

-   Melissa Gilbert (47) of Little House on the Prairie fame.

-   Sherry Shepherd (44), one of the co-hosts from The View.

-   Martina Navratilova (55), tennis professional.

-   Maria Menounous (33), television host.

-   Donald Driver (37) from the Green Bay Packers.

-   Jaleel White (35) who played Urkel from the TV show Family Matters.

-   William Levy (31) who is an actor and a model.

-   Gavin DeGraw (35), singer.

-   Roshon Fegan (20) from the TV series Shake It up.

-   Katherine Jenkins (31), opera singer.

-   Gladys Knight (67), legendary singer.

What are your thoughts on this season’s line up? Personally I’m not overly impressed. There is no one here I’d really be interested in watching, sad to say. Some seasons DWTS has a great celebrity cast, other times not so much. I think out of this years celebrity cast I’d probably be most interested in Sherry Shepherd because I think she’s funny and Jack Wagner because I thought he was such a hottie back when he was on General Hospital.

For more information about the show go to www.ABC.Go.com/Shows/Dancing-with-the-Stars.
