I have a confession to make. I’m a “movie-o-holic”. I truly enjoy watching movies. Especially this time of year when there is nothing but boring repeats on TV.
The other day I had the opportunity to watch the movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island on Blu-ray. This is a follow up to the 2008 movie, Journey to the Center of the Earth which starred Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) and Josh Hutcherson (Hunger Games). In a way this is a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth. Journey 2 picks up a few years after Josh’s character Sean Anderson went on his incredible journey into the Earth with his uncle (Brendan Fraiser).
In Journey 2 we learn that Sean’s mom had remarried. Her new husband, Hank, is played by Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.
Sean’s family moved to Ohio and Sean had been rebelling against his mother and step-father. He was also trying to figure out some secret messages (code) that he’s been picking up. Sean thinks it’s a message from his grandfather who disappeared a few years earlier and hasn’t been heard from.
Hank wants to try and bond with Sean so he helps Sean to crack the secret code using classic books. When they find is the coordinates for a mysterious island. Sean is all set to take off to the island to look for his grandfather but Hank stops him. Instead of going alone Hank decides to join him. Hank hopes that Seans quest for his grandfather and the mysterious island will come up empty handed and Hank can be there to comfort (and bond) with Sean.
In order to get to the island Sean and Hank need to hire a boat. None of the boat captains would even entertain the idea of venturing into the area the men wanted to go to. Everyone except a helicopter pilot who was willing to take them for a hefty fee. The pilot, Gabato, also has a beautiful daughter name Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens) who reluctantly joins the men on thier foolish quest to find this mysterious island.
A freak tornado causes the group to crash on to an island that is not seen on the maps. This is no ordinary island either. On this island butterflies are the size of birds, elephants are as small as a large cat and there is a monstrous lizard who is out to get them.
Could this be the mysterious island they have been searching for? Is Sean’s grandfather somewhere on the island in need of their help? How will the group get off the island? To find out the answers you need to pick up a copy of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, available on Blu-ray and DVD on June 5, 2012.
This was a fun movie to watch. It didn’t require you to have to “think”, but rather sit back and enjoy. It’s a light hearted movie.
I would think this would be fine for the entire family. Little ones might find the giant lizard and eel scary but other than that this movie should be fun for all family members, young and old.
I liked the movie. The special effects were pretty cool. My family enjoyed it too (although I think my daughter was more enamoured about Josh Hutcherson – LOL).
There are bonus features on the blu-ray which feature a gag reel (too short – wish they had more), deleted scenes and a cool interactive feature called “Are you strong enough to survive?” which should be a hit with children. It’s both fun and educational.
Look for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island where ever movies are sold. Or you can check it out here, http://bit.ly/J2WBSHOP.
