If you read my blog regularly you might recall that I’m a bit of a “germ-o-phobe”. I’m not obsessed about avoiding germs, but I do try and keep my home as germ free as possible. On a daily basis I wash off frequently used things in my home like door knobs and spray them with an antibacterial spray.
I don’t know why I am this way. I didn’t use to be when I was younger. I never gave things like germs and bacteria a thought. I guess maybe it’s a maternal thing. I think things got worst when my son was born. He was 9 weeks premature and I was so paranoid that he was going to get sick. The common cold can be deadly for a preemie.
I am not a fan of cleaning. I know some people actually enjoy cleaning. I am NOT one of those people. Once in a blue moon the urge to clean might hit, but those days are few and far between. When I clean I usually do it begrudgedly because I know I have to do it, but I don’t want to.
I hate having to lug around multiple bottles and cleaning “equipment” from room to room. We live in a tiny condo. I can’t imagine cleaning a house with multiple rooms and different levels. I think I’ll have separate cleaning products – one for downstairs and one for upstairs – just so I don’t have to lug everything around.

I’ve used Pledge Multi-Surface Antibacterial Cleaner on all the windows in our condo and on the mirrors in the bathroom and bedroom. You wouldn’t think that these surfaces could house germs and bacteria, but they can. Take for example our windows, especially in the dining room. Our dog is always looking out those windows to see what is going on. There are always nose prints and drool on those windows because of him. We also have a cat that loves to lick the windows (we don’t know why). She will sit in front of the sliding glass doors and just keep licking them.
The mirror in the bathroom I am sure is home to a lot of germs. It’s a medicine cabinet so everyone is always opening and closing it to get things like toothpaste or the kid’s face washes. There are plenty of finger prints on the mirrors, all of which might contain something that could make you sick.
I wouldn’t think to use the same product on glass and mirrors that I use on electronics. I don’t spray the Pledge directly on the electronic. Instead I spray it on a reusable cloth, then use the cloth to clean the electronic. I don’t want to take a chance of getting something wet.
This is NOT a polish, it’s a cleaner. It’s not going to make your finished wood look glossy, but rather it will clean the surface from dirt, dust, grime and of course germs. Not only that it’s not a good idea to constantly polish your finished wood because it can cause a build up (that is what my mom always told me).
