I come from a military family. Fortunately I did not have to move around growing up. My grandfather was in the Navy during WWII. My father was in the Army during Vietnam and my brother was in the Marines. I have always joked that I should have joined the Coast Guard to round things out. I couldn’t join the Air Force because I have horrible eyesight.
I give all the kudos in the world to families who have a father, or mother, serving in the military. I don’t know how they can stay away from their family for months, or years, at a time. If I go away on a press trip for even a few days I miss my family terribly. I cannot imagine how I would feel if my husband, son or daughter were deployed and gone for a very long time.
I think it’s great when businesses and companies do things to honor our service men and women. One such company is Dollar General. Dollar General truly values these heroes and their experiences and offers many career opportunities for returning veterans. Dollar General is the winner of the 2011 Military Officers Association of America Distinguished Service Award and was recognized in GI Jobs magazine’s list of Most Military Friendly Employers.
Would you like to honor a military hero in your life or your community? Dollar General is offering the opportunity to upload a video about your military hero to www.DollarGeneral.com/EverydayHeroes. They would love it if everyone would participate. It’s so easy to do. Simply create a video dedicated to the military hero in your life (or community).
