Win a Full Set of Autographed Books from Author Raymond Bean

A few weeks ago I did a review of the book series Sweet Farts by Raymond Bean. My son, who is not overly keen on reading, enjoyed the books. I didn’t have to nag him to read. He read them on his own. Not everyday, but at least he read which is great as far as I’m concerned. When he’s interested in books he will read them on his own. The trick is to get him to read the first chapter or two to see if he likes the book or not.

You can read my original review here. Please note that the giveaway in that post is over.

Recently Mr. Bean offered She Scribe readers some fabulous advice on encouraging children to not only read, but also write, during the summer hiatus from school. They are great tips which I am going to implement with my son. Below is the link to the article. It’s a great article. I hope you’ll take the time to check it out.

Help encourage your child to read this summer: Great tips from author Raymond Bean.

Here is a little more about the author, Raymond Bean, from Amazon.com.

Raymond Bean is a dad, a teacher, and the Amazon best-selling author of the Sweet Farts Series. His books have ranked #1 in Children’s Humor, Humorous Series, and Fantasy and Adventure.  The Sweet Farts Series is consistently in Amazon’s top 100 books for children.  His second book, Sweet Farts #2 Rippin’ It Old School was Amazon Publishing’s first release for young readers. Foreign editions of his books have been released in Germany and Korea.  Editions for Italy, Brazil, and Turkey will be released soon. He writes for kids who claim they don’t like reading.

There are currently three books in the Sweet Farts series. I wouldn’t be surprised if more additions will be added over the years.

As a parent I was a bit grossed out by the title, but I also know that silly things like “farts” are humorous to children and ‘tweens. I think that is why kids find the books so appealing. Not only that they are really funny too. I find it interesting how the story has been spun into three different books.

Mr. Bean has a new series of books called School is a Nightmare. There are currently two books in that series, School is a Nightmare: First Week, Worst Week and School is a Nightmare: The Field Trip. I haven’t had a chance to check those books out yet, nor has my son, but I am keeping an eye out for them the next time I go to Barnes & Nobel at the mall.

So far both books have four star reviews on Amazon. Reviewers for both books gives each one the full four star rating. I also checked out the reviews and people LOVE these books. That makes me even more excited to pick up a set for my son.

Most people know that reading is very important, not only for children but also for adults. It helps your memory, keeps your mind active and helps with concentration. It also helps build your vocabulary.

Things like Alzheimers and Dementia scare me. I DON’T want to develop things like that. That is why I try and keep my mind sharp and “active”. Reading is one of the ways I do that. That is why it’s so important for children to learn to read and enjoy reading at a young age, because it can develop into a life long love of reading. For children reading also helps build their self-esteem and confidence. It also feeds their imagination and creativity.

If you would like to learn more about author Raymond Bean, or the book series Sweet Farts and School is a Nightmare, visit the official website, www.SchoolisaNightmare.com. You can also find the books on Amazon.com. While you are there make sure to check out Raymond Bean’s Author’s page.

Mr. Bean has generously offered to give a lucky reader both series of books. This includes all three Sweet Farts books and both School is a Nightmare books. To make it even better Mr. Bean is going to autograph the copies too! How “sweet” is that? No pun intended (well… maybe a little. :-) ).

These books would get any young man to read! I love them!

  3. As a reading teacher I encourage my kids to read by letting them help to pick out books, setting summer reading goals, and yes rewarding them for reading.

  12. As I read about your son, I thought you were describing MY son. He has an older sister and a twin sister who are both AVID readers. The trick for each of them was finding a series or topic they could not get enough of. Unfortunately, we haven’t found that for my son yet, but, I think he would be totally into the Sweet Farts series! (He LOVES Sweet Tarts AND I think he would also find them funny.) I’ve checked them out on Amazon.com, but, I’m going to hold off, hoping to win them.

  13. Oh — and here are some tips on how we encourage reading:

    1) We read aloud to our son as many minutes in a day as he reads. He LOVES listening to us read, so, this is a good motivator.
    2) We let him pick what he reads — and we buy him copies of his favorite books so he can read them again and again and again.
    3) Our oldest daughter did a read-a-thon — check it out: http://susan-read-a-thon.org/
    4) We are participating in the Barnes & Noble summer reading program AND the Half-Price Books Summer Reading Program AND the summer reading program at our local library…
