My favorite Summer shoes

Growing up I hated to wear shoes. I was always barefoot. I even ran out to the mailbox once in the Winter, through the snow, totally barefoot. When I’m out and about I can’t wait to take my shoes off the moment I walk into my home. I literally take my shoes off the moment I step foot inside.

I don’t like to wear shoes in the hot Summer months. I don’t find sneakers comfortable. I wear socks with my sneakers and that is the last thing you want on a super hot and humid day.

I am not a fan of flip flops. They are OK but I am not keen on piece that goes in between your big toe and the one next to it. I find it very uncomfortable. I also don’t like people to see my toes. I think my toes look freakish and I’m embarrassed by them.

For years I wore sandals that covered my toes and were easy to slip on and off. My husband said they were “old lady shoes” because any time he saw someone with the same shoes they were over 60+ years old. I knew my shoes were not exactly stylish but they were comfy and they let my feet “breath” when I was out and about.

This year I was unable to find those same old lady sandals that I usually buy. I hated the idea of having to wear socks and sneakers all Summer long. I needed new shoes. Shoes that were comfy, provided arch support and allowed my feet to breath. I found them! They are the Nikki Gladiator Slide from Aetrex.

I was a bit hesitant about wearing these shoes because I don’t like my toes to be seen. These shoes do not cover up your toes. However they looked really comfy so I just had to try them out.

Here is the detail about these wonderful shoes.

  • Built in Lynco® support for all day comfort
  • Memory foam top cover for customized cushioning
  • Aegis® anti-microbial technology embedded in foot bed to help protect against fungi, bacteria and odor
  • “Met Bar Pod” reduces stress at ball-of-foot
  • Medial Support Pod minimizes over-pronation
  • Ultra-light midsole for natural shock absorption
  • Innovative fully adjustable gladiator slide for maximum comfort
  • Adjustable center strap to accommodate different insteps
  • Tumbled leather with stylish rivet accents and stitching

What first attracted me to the shoe was it’s design. Gladiator style shoes are very popular. I’m not one to follow fashion trends, but I do like the look of Gladiator shoes. I especially liked how these shoes looked.

I chose the color brown because I felt it went best with the clothes that I wear during the summer. I also think that the brown looks a bit more casual than the black Nikki Gladiator Slides.

These are considered cork shoes because the base of the shoe is actually made out of cork. That makes these shoes really like weight.

I was shocked at just how incredibly comfortable these shoes are. I’m not kidding when I say you barely notice that they are on your feet. They feel so comfortable, as if you are walking barefoot. Except these shoes provide you with much more support.

I originally planned on using these shoes to walk to the pool, take the dog for a walk or to run errands around town. I wear these shoes every where. I have been wearing them just about every day since the day I got them (well over a month or so ago). I don’t go anywhere without my Aetrex shoes!

I had these shoes with me when I was at the beach last week (of course!). Even after daily wear for many weeks my shoes are still in tip top shape.

The one shoe looks out of shape on the one side. It’s not. It’s just the way they were positioned in the photo. They are also more brown in color. They look faded out because my camera has been giving me a hard time and the photo was taken in the bright sunshine at the beach. They are much nicer in person.

Notice how they look practically brand new. Even the part where your foot rests is still in great shape. Sometimes shoes tend to get dirty or wear down in that area. Not with these shoes. I have no doubt that I’ll be wearing these shoes again next summer and possibly the summer after that.

One of my favorite features about these shoes is that they are adjustable. I was worried that my chubby feet wouldn’t fit well in them. The top part (straps) have Velcro on them so I was able to adjust them to fit my feet perfectly.

There are small rivets across the top to form a design. All of the rivets are still there. None have fallen off.

I have not had to clean these off at all. They have remained fairly clean even after daily use.

I love that I am able to simply slip my feet into them and go. I don’t have to adjust straps, buckle them or tie them. When it comes time to taking them off I just have to slip them back off my feet. I also love how they allow my feet to breath so they are not overheated with the unforgiving Summer heat.

I think what impresses me the most is just how incredibly comfortable they are and how well made these shoes are.

Aetrex offers a huge variety of shoes for both women and men.

Aetrex was founded in 1946 and is widely recognized as a leader in pedorthic foot wear and foot orthotics. I know when people think about orthotic footwear they think about sneakers with Velcro straps or unattractive shoes. That is not the case with the shoes that Aetrex offers consumers. Their shoes are not only great for the wellness of your feet but they are also attractive and fashionable. Don’t believe me? Check out some of the styles/designs that they currently offer.

Even my teen daughter who is totally into shoes loves some of the shoes found on the Aetrex site. All of these shoes pictured are “healthy” options for your feet. They do offer more colors than just black. Sorry. I tend to gravitate towards black shoes because the match with everything.

On a side note Aetrex offers footwear with GPS in them so that you can help locate someone who suffers from Dementia or Alzheimer’s. I think that is a fabulous idea! More shoes companies should do that.

If you would like to check out these or other styles visit www.Aetrex.com. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. They even have a newsletter you can subscribe to.

If you are looking for quality shoes that will last a long time and provide your feet with comfort and support look no further than Aetrex.

I am totally with you for the no flip flops thing! I hate them that little piece that goes in between your toes is oh so uncomfortable! I am the only person I know who doesn’t like them other than my family (bro and hubby doesn’t either). LOL! Good to know I’m not weird.
