By now most families have already finished their back to school shopping. Some people are holding out to the last second in hops of scoring great deals.
Back to school shopping lists usually contain the same items year after year… pencils, paper, colored pencils, backpacks…. But there is something that SHOULD be added to every back to school shopping list that most families overlook – First Aid Kits.
You should always have a First Aid Kit on hand, whether you are going back to school or not. It’s also a great idea to keep one in your car too. Not too long ago a blogger came across an accident. The First Aid Kit she kept in her car came in very handy in aiding the injured person.
Many households do have First Aid Kit but they are often overlooked and rarely re-stocked. We all know it’s important the test the batteries in our fire alarms when we set the clocks back for forward. We should commit to doing the same when it comes to checking out your First Aid Kit and tossing out expired products and re-stocking items that you are out of. A great time to do this is back to school time. Since you are already out shopping for school supplies why not stock up on First Aid supplies too.
There are some basic supplies most every First Aid Kit should contain including;
- Adhesive tape
- Antibiotic ointment (Neosporin)
- Antiseptic solution or towelettes
- Bandages, including a roll of elastic wrap and bandage strips (Band-Aid) in assorted sizes
- Instant cold packs
- Cotton balls and cotton-tipped swabs
- Disposable latex or synthetic gloves, at least two pair
- Gauze pads and roller gauze in assorted sizes
- Petroleum jelly or other lubricant
- Scissors and tweezers
- Sterile eyewash, such as a saline solution
- Triangular bandage
Some First Aid Kits are more elaborate and contain things like Aloe (for burns), products for diarrhea, Calamine lotion, aspirin and non-aspirin, antihistamine. hydrocortisone cream and more.
When you are shopping for pencils and pens make sure to pick up a couple of boxes of Band-Aids in assorted sizes. Trust me, assorted sizes is a must. I can’t tell you how many times I needed a Band-Aid and didn’t have one that was the right size. Too small is pointless and too large is a waste.
Have you seen the new Band-Aid brand adhesive bandages with QuiltVent technology and the super cute Muppets Band-Aid adhesive bandages? I LOVE the Muppet Band-Aids. They are so cute. If you read my blog regulary you’ll know that I love the Muppets. They are my BFF’s. LOL!
Check out the cute Muppet designs.
The Band-Aids also feature Muppet characters on them. My husband and I are using these Band-Aids. My teenagers wouldn’t even entertain the thought of using Muppet Band-Aids so they can use the regular kind. 🙂
The new Band-Aid QuiltVent technology creates air channels that allow for the wound to “breathe”. It needs air to help it heal faster. The new QuiltVent technology also wicks away blood to help keep the wound clean too. I’ve only had the opportunity to try one of those Band-Aids thus far (I wasn’t using the scissors properly and stabbed my thumb with them). The new Band-Aids are really comfy. I like how they don’t stick to the wound either.
Neosporin is another First Aid Kit “must have”. Not only does it protect against infections is also helps wounds to heal up to two days faster. It also helps ot minimize the appearance of scars from cuts and scrapes. My husband and I used Neosporin on our tattoos to help protect them from infections. It also helps to keep the wound moist without drying it out too.
I hope this post encourages you to check out your own First Aid Kit, toss out the expired stuff and fill up on the essentials you might be low on. Then make it a point to check your First Aid Kit at least once a year (ore more if possible) to make sure it’s stocked.
To help you get started I have a special First Aid Kit giveaway for a lucky reader that features many “must have” products for your First Aid Kit from Band-Aid and Neosporin. The prize package is valued at $40.00.
