My husband and my kids often think that “better for you” cereals taste gross or like cardboard. I can usually convince my son to eat just about anything. My daughter and husband are far more pickier and won’t even entertain the thought of trying certain things. Oh well, their loss. More for me!
I try and balance out my cereals. I tend to lean towards the cereals that are healthier for you than the “candy” type cereals. I will admit that occasionally I enjoy a bowl of cereal that is sugary sweet and loaded with marshmallows.
In the past I have tried and enjoyed (as well as purchased) Fiber One cereal. I have to admit that I don’t get nearly as much fiber in my diet like I should. I’m not alone. More than 90% of Americans don’t get the daily recommended amount of fiber their bodies need. It is recommended that you get at least 25 grams of fiber in your diet EVERY DAY.
I like to start my day with a high fiber option. Fiber is not only good for your body but it also fills you up too. I need to provide my body with plenty of energy in the morning if I’m going to make it through the day. Otherwise I start to “lose steam” around late morning/early afternoon.
Fiber One has a new cereal that is currently available on the market – Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds. This cereal is the perfect combination of sweet and crunch. It also provide you with a whopping 23 grams of whole grains. That is nearly half of your dairy recommended amount – all in one serving of sweet and crunchy Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds.
It also has only 180 calories per serving too.
Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds has real sliced almonds (I love almonds!) and whole grain flakes. I’m not sure what the littler clusters are made of, but they are good.
My son was actually the first to try the cereal (he beat me to it). The box was in the pantry and he had already had a few bowls of it before I had a chance to try it out. I would assume he likes it. .
I enjoyed the cereal too. It goes great with a sliced banana or sliced strawberries. It is also a great topping for ice cream and yogurt. Using it as a topping is my “sneaky” way of getting more fiber in to my kid’s diets.
Often with fiber cereals they taste rather “blah” or bland. Or as my kids would describe it “It’s like eating cardboard”. When cereal tastes that way you are less inclined to pour a bowl of it in the morning. That is not the case with cereal. It’s enjoyable and I looked forward to having it in the morning (I have since purchased two more boxes of it).
It’s nice to know that I’m getting more fiber in my diet without really trying. All I need to do is enjoy Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds for breakfast, snack or another meal and I have managed to get almost half of my recommended fiber.
Look for Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds where ever cereals are sold.
