I have five crazy cats and a dog who thinks he’s a cat. He’s the only dog I’ve ever known that loves catnip. He also sleeps in the cat’s beds and plays with their toys, even though he has plenty of his own toys and his own bed.
We have two pantries in our kitchen. On the bottom of one pantry we keep all the cat stuff (food, litter, catnip, toys, treats). On the bottom of the other pantry we keep all the dog stuff (food and treats – he has his own toy box for his toys).
I’ve always had pets, even since I was a little girl. In all these years I have never come across a treat that was good for both cats and dogs.
Honest Kitchen, which I have written about a few times in the past, has their own line of pet products which are available on the Mr. Chewy website (MrChewy.com). Mr. Chewy sent me a package of the Honest Kitchen Wishes Dog and Cat Treats to try out with my cats and dog.
Here is a little more information about the treats.
Wishes are suitable for both cats and dogs, and can be used as a general reward or aid to training. Wishes are made with 100% wild caught Haddock from Iceland using sustainable fishing practices.
Iceland places a strong emphasis on the protection of its marine habitats and manages the waters off its coasts to prevent over-fishing. Icelandic haddock stocks have risen dramatically in the past 5 years.
They’re grain-free, delicious and perfect for sensitive pets who suffer from allergies or intolerance to certain foods such as grains and proteins. Wishes come in large, dehydrated fillets – they can be snapped into smaller pieces for your dogs or cats.
These truly are freeze dried fish pieces. That is evident the moment you open up the package. Initially I thought they were fish flavored treats. I didn’t expect them to be actual fish.
These smell… I mean REALLY smell. It’s fine when the package is closed but once you open it up to pull out a piece you are hit with a strong fish smell. Once you close the package up the smell is gone.
The moment my cats get a whiff of the Honest Kitchen Wishes they come running. It doesn’t matter where they are in the condo. They are in the kitchen in a flash. They do the same thing when I open up cans of tuna. Fish scents must travel at lightening speeds. LOL! Even our dog comes running. You wouldn’t think a dog would get excited about fish but he does.
My cats and dog gobble these treats up. They come in large “slabs” (for lack of a better description). I just break off a piece, then break it down into smaller pieces for each of my five cats. They literally inhale it! No sooner do I give them a piece that it’s gone. It’s like a cool magic trick – now you see it, now you don’t.
They smell awful but oh my goodness my cats and dog LOVE them. They can’t get enough of them. Who knew that pieces of real fish would be such a hit with my four legged family members.
I would say all six pets give Honest Kitchen Wishes treats two paws up each. As for me, I’ll give it a thumbs up because I know how much my pets loved them. I’ll also give them a thumbs down for the smell.
